Alexey Erokhov

I almost forgot to post these, but better late than never. Here are Alexey's pictures from Irina Sharova's visit at a training session last week:

Five minutes of bliss for Alexey's fans:

The ballet class is beautiful, I could watch that for hours. And that cartwheel out of a spin! 😸
Apparently the music for one of the new programs (SP?) is "Your Song" from Moulin Rouge.

What his coach Vika Butsaeva is saying about Alexey in the video:
I'm pleased with Lyosha Erokhov's progress, he has had a good training camp. Probably the first training camp in his career when there was only off-ice training, and he liked it a lot. We also worked very fruitfully in Sochi.
That's why I am satisfied with the physical form. There is little work left, we need to refine the programs, and by the end of September, test skates [of the national team] are waiting for us.
We are trying to make Lyosha new, more expressive. But let's see how well we can do it, here, of course, everything depends on him. I think, if the technical side of the program is good, we will see a new Lyosha this year.

Happy 23rd birthday to Lyosha Erokhov, my favourite jumper of the smoothest 4Lo! 🎂🍾💐

Last September in Syzran in the span of 4 minutes I lost all of my figure skating fan’s heart to him. It was such a magical performance, and I’ve been cheering for him ever since.

Most of all health and happiness and then let everything else come together for Lyosha this season! :cheer2:

New SP from Russian test skates: Lovesong (cover version of the original by The Cure); Your Song by Ewan McGregor from the musical Moulin Rouge; choreo by Evgeni Vlasov

The program would be sublime if he ditched the Moulin Rouge part.

Still, Lyosha skated it beautifully. If only it were under different circumstances. 🥺 Let everything be well.

New FS from Russian test skates: Medley from the musical Notre Dame de Paris by Riccardo Cocciante; choreo by Evgeni Vlasov.

This was just brilliant (with some funny subtexts) on so many levels. I can't find the words to express how much I loved the energetic and passionate performance and the 4!!! landed quads. There's also a notable improvement in the way he works with his hands to underline the body movements.
All in all, by far the best Notre Dame I've ever seen! Alexey made it his own.
As for the shirt, I hope he sticks with it for good luck. 🍀

Coach Viktoria Butsaeva in an interview at the Novogorsk training camp before test skates:
New programs for Alexey Erokhov were choreographed by Evgeni Vlasov. We have been working together for the second season and have gotten along well. The programs that Zhenya makes are comfortable for Lyosha. And this plays an important role, because men's single skating involves complex content.

For the short program we took music from 50 Kisses [50 First Dates] and Moulin Rouge. The free program is Notre Dame de Paris. And the choice of this particular music was not a coincidence. In fact, we thought for a long time about what to take, because the main task was to reveal the figure skater. Lyosha is emotional by nature, but all these emotions are hidden deep inside. He can't always express them in skating, he can't express what we would like to see. Of course, we prioritized the skater's opinion in choosing music. Lyosha is already an experienced skater, so we made this decision together.

Lyosha works very hard. He's easy to work with because he will never do less than required. On the contrary, he will do more. Alexey doesn't need to be motivated. He knows what he is training for, and why. Let me repeat, our main goal for the season is to skate consistent programs with competitive content. In the free program, Lyosha will be doing four quad jumps.

I would like Lyosha to look new this season. And we're working on that. He has everything. He can open up if he skates clean programs. It's easier to show emotions against such a background, - explained coach Viktoria Butsaeva.

Finally, Lyosha's first competition in over half a year. And what a lovely SP performance it was. Noone else landed the quads so smoothly. But my favourite part was the choreo before the Ina Bauer slide, when all the difficult elements were done and he just smiled and danced into the slide perfectly on the music.

Here's what Lyosha had to say after the SP:
I rate my performance C+. Not everything worked out at the first start of the season. There was some serious nervousness, which I was surprised about. I prepared for the season as usual. I just did not know how it would go. Thanks to the federation for not forgetting the athletes, they arranged a series of Grand Prix for us.
I've wanted to skate to "Moulin Rouge" for a long time. This season I did it. I really like my program. I'm trying to work more on my second assessment. As always, I'll try to skate clean tomorrow.

Best of luck tomorrow in the free! :cheer2: I wonder if it will be a new costume or the Moskvich lucky shirt.

Smooth ice to Lyosha this weekend in Perm and may all the jumps work out for him so he can deliver the programs as they are intended to be. I am also still eagerly waiting for that cartwheel spin exit he teased in the off-season. :cheer2:

CoR stage 6 is done and qualification for the Cup Final and RusNats achieved. :yahoo:

The SP was skated as beautifully as ever, with clean jumps and even a bit of smiling in the second half, which imo should immediately increase the PCS tenfold.

Lyosha decided to wait with a perfect performance of the FS until Nationals to achieve the appropriate wow effect. Instead he entertained the viewers in the Kiss&Cry with the stuffy he picked up from the ice, but then apparently got told off by one of the officials for his antics. 🤣

Good luck to Alexey at Nationals! 🍀 :cheer2: 🍀
As long as he is satisfied with his performance after the competition the placement doesn't really matter that much. That said, I would be thrilled if he made the top five and got invited to the exhibition gala. I usually skip the galas, but I would love to see Lyosha skate an exhibition program - I would watch just for him. 😸

It was only Lyosha's fourth start at a senior national championship. He's been so unlucky with injuries, but he is also such a fighter. It's inspiring how far he's come from two seasons ago and he can have many more Nationals and fight for many more medals if he wants to.
Next opportunity: Russian GP Final. I'll plant a patch of four-leaf clovers in my garden for some extra luck.

Last year when Alexey performed so consistently with his three quads in the FS, I thought for sure he will have Senior B's and Challenger assignments next season, and I will travel there and cheer and throw something on the ice for him. Except, it wasn't meant to be.
But I will still cheer now even if it's just in front of my laptop, and I'll watch him at every little local competition, and if there is no stream, I'll watch the live scoring, and if there is no live scoring, I'll read the protocols.

Davai Lyosha, and good luck in Moscow this weekend! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

There was a stream. :cheer:

In the SP the jumps did not work out. Like not at all. It was a bit of a nightmare. But I decided to post the video here nonetheless, because the bits and pieces in between the jumps were skated beautifully. Soft movements, attention to the music, no rushing - overall a lovely performance with all the spins coming in at level 4 and a StSq3.

They brought back the Greatest Showman for the FS! And while I would have liked to see Notre Dame just once skated as it was supposed to be, I'm not gonna lie - seeing Lyosha skate the Greatest Showman again brought me so much joy. :yahoo:Among a bunch of favourite programs, I still love this one the most for him. And it was even better than last year, with the content toned down a bit, giving him some time to breathe and focus on the presentation.
Only the Axel is still causing him trouble under pressure. He jumps it perfectly in the warm-up, so it's not like he can't do it. But I'm sure they'll keep working on it and will figure it out.

Lyosha will skate next weekend at the Russian Cup Final. I'm happy and sad at the same time. Happy, because he will show the Greatest Showman again, and I love that program, especially the step sequence at the end. And sad because this is traditionally his last competition of the season. So we probably won't see him skating again until October. It's such a long time.
I'll light a couple of candles for him and hope that he can give a performance he can be proud of and end the season on a high note.

How he smiled at the beginning of the step sequence! :points: Who even cares about toeloops anyway?

I hope he puts this cursed season behind him and does what he does best: never give up. Everything is still going to be alright.
