Alina Zagitova

She's beautiful in both pics :) I've been reading some comments (not on here) about her and Zhenya looking a little heavier (so to speak, ofc they are incredibly slim!) and tbh, even if it was the case - there's no way they could be in the exact shape they were at OG in the off season. Literally no way, it would be unhealthy if they were considering that they aren't training nearly as much now!

Glad to see her (and Zhenya) enjoying herself in Korea and having fun skating!

They are having a blast in Korea and I'm glad they both put on a little bit of weight because figure skating is such a punishing sport they need to get a Little Bit Stronger. Especially Zhenya. Yes they are not in Tip-Top Olympic shape but as you said this is typical of the offseason.

I agree that Alina doing her 3lz+3lo in her Black Swan EX version is pretty gutsy. Hardest jump combo made by any of the ladies today, she could easily have taken it out, so it is a treat for the fans for sure (kinda like when they guys do quads in theirs). And she's been skating beautifully at these shows, I'm glad she is using Black Swan because, for that costume alone, it deserves the spotlight. Her actual EX number has a song that is super hard to skate to, so she is always pushing the envelope and I really like that.

I agree that the tights over the boots gives an elongated effect to her body (and anyone else's too probably) but looking at pictures like this https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh1lDJXDHXA/?taken-by=teamzagitova with the fans in Korea you can see that her frame is basically the same as it was at Worlds.

BTW I loved that little flower tiara, makes her look like a fairy. That would be a cool think to add to costume for a show.

Edited to add - one of the guys who took a picture with her there said the following in his instastory over their pic: "the guard tried to block the fans away from her but she said no it's ok and walked to me with an adorable smile, how kind and humble she is". That's his insta https://www.instagram.com/patrick_nnn/

Edited again to add another comment from her fan Patrick_nnn that got to meet her in Korea: "Not olny she is so cute, she also was really kind to her fans!! She tried to give her signature to all the fans waiting her outside and took pictures with them! I was really touched with her personality as well"

thank you for such an in-depth informative post. I sure hope Alina's sweetness and kindness are not taken advantage of.

A big THANK YOU to everyone that has posted pictures and videos from the ice show and also interviews, rehearsals, etc...

I am still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that Alina Zagitova did the 3Lz-3Lo, the 3F and the 2A in her exhibition.
Given her growth spurt, what happened at Worlds, lack of training, and the poor lighting.... :hap10::hap10::hap10:

She may be young, soft-spoken and gentle as a person, but as an athlete she is as FIERCE as they come!!!!

Here are a few pictures of her not so fierce side

(If you're going to South Korea.... Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair)

Nothing to be sorry about!! The more the merrier, always a chance for someone to see them who might have missed a post on an earlier page.

And I'm fangirling right along with you at all these jumps. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !!!

Thank you. This has been a busy day in Alina-ville. Lots of videos, pictures, translations.

Yesssssssssss!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

You have no idea how much I wanted to see this, streaming (or the whole broadcast, who knows?) died right near the end of Jun-hwan's program on the second act and I never got to see any of the things you've found on the last 3 videos.

Her second act EX was flawless and it's so cool to finally see the finale and the all on ice bits.

Btw, Alina is fearless! Doing her 3Lz-3Lo perfectly at poor light again, not many skaters are that gutsy!

3Lz-3Lo were far from perfect, actually. 3Lo was definitely UR. I don't want to disparage her in any way - but let's be real here for a bit.

To me, Alina looks kinda different in this show and I was wondering what has changed. When comparing the two pictures, it seems like the way she used to wear the tights over the boots made her legs look longer and thinner and now when she skates with the boots entirely visible, her figure looks differently. I don't think the slight change in height and weight or the way the dress fits her are contributing to the whole picture as much as the skates and the optical illusion the tights-over-boots effect creates.

she is as gutsy as Olympic champion can be! :)

A huge thank you to everyone! Those videos are great!

Putting aside World's for a sec, Alina must feel like she is living a dream. Her first senior season she wins everything, and then the biggest thing she can possibly win. Suddenly she is famous in her home country, and huge in Japan and Korea. She is traveling abroad, making tv appearances, starring in commercials and skating in ice shows with legends and her idols.

She wanted to help her family and she got to give her Dad a brand new custom BMW. The dog of her dreams is on its way to her sometime soon. (Sorry, Iriska the cat. Just make sure you show the dog who is boss.) All this and she hasn't even had her 16th birthday yet.

Just wow....

What a ride this year has been for her (last year and a half actually), and, as some others posters here have noted, for many she came out of left field.

She just kept gradually finding her groove and I bet that was a confidence booster. Even now on these Ice Shows (particularly on this last one where you have these great high def videos and can really see her face) you can see how happy she gets when she is able to perform her full planned routines. Kind of a “nailed it” smile and glow that is cool to see. She has high standards for herself and is always looking for ways to perfect what she’s doing and push the envelope further.

It is also great to see how she interacts with the other skaters and you can tell that she is a fan too, so doing all this must be a dream come true.

This is the difference between Alina and Yulia Lipnitskaya, as Eteri said, for Julia, it's not very interesting, she did everything through force and forced herself, her mother wanted it more.
Alina loves figure skating, this is her joy and gives pleasure to her and for us .

It's a joy to watch. I know her life isn't perfect, and even getting everything you want has a downside, but she is handling everything with such poise. As a fan it makes me proud of her a person not just a skater. :)

This is going to sound weird and I hope no-one takes it the wrong way, but maybe it isn't the worst thing that Worlds went so badly. There is now a really big, prestigious title that she wants to go after. Like Eteri said, motivation. And also she got 'losing' out of the way. Now if she doesn't win something next season there won't be that same crushing let down. She'll know how to deal with it because its already happened.

It's really awesome to see her going for her hardest jumps in ice shows. That's the determination that got her that Olympic Gold!

No, I think it's not true... Yulia also loved and loves figure skating and she wished too much, after Sochi to stay in the top, and not to disappoint anybody.
But sometimes it happens that the body doesn't listen to you anymore and you lose control over the situation, therefore it culminated in the eating disorder.
At least that's the way I see things: Yulia didn't lose motivation after Sochi, on the contrary, she wanted too much.

Yes I admire her parents for not “tiger mom” pushing her into her figure skating achievements. They obviously care and are proud but they seem to care a lot about her happiness and give her plenty of breathing room.

Her grandma, that’s been going on trips with her too, is the same. She leans back at let’s her do her thing, she is there for support and not to whip her into performing.

Two interesting videos from little 2014 Alina:

On this one https://youtu.be/5BFo3zAWgTg you can truly see how graceful and musical she was, but her jumps came later. She was not a natural born big jumper. I like to see her grace and movements because even now those are rare in younger kids.

Second one is this https://youtu.be/nUiEsTws__U can’t speak Russian but this sounds like an elements (jumps maybe) audition were they call out stuff she then needs to perform. She is very methodical and studied in her approaches but you can see she works hard for it (some land and some don’t).

BTW no parents right at her saying things and pushing, plenty of pushing and tough talk by the coaches but I guess this is par for the course. More stick than carrot.

And here she is fighting for some cascades as a 12yo (edited from part of a 2015 presentation of her Pink Panther program, she was in Moscow already) and I can so see the quality in all that https://youtu.be/Q5fU-ai2Hu4 from the last one you can totally see how she built her 3 cascades.
