Alina Zagitova

Wondering if Russian speakers can comment abit on how Alina speaks based on her interviews/periscopes - ie fast/slow, accent/no accent, clearly/mumbly etc?

I ask cos’ I read some earlier discussions on this thread where Russian speakers didn’t agree on what she said. And also when I watched a clip where she mentioned Eteri based on subtitles, I couldn’t make out she said “Eteri Georgievna” at all. So just got abit curious. :)

Could you link this please? No, Alina doesn't speak with accent, she speaks pretty clearly, i think you couldn't recognized she said "Eteri Georgievna" because it was too fast, or maybe because she said Georgevna without i
I find her voice kinda high pitched, it's sounds really cute

Yes, it is really cute! I love hearing her speak though I have no clue what she is saying.

This was the video I watched:

At 3:58, she must be rolling off the name (twice?) super fast? Or maybe I am just hard of hearing! [emoji23][emoji24] Is it usual to drop the “i”?

As I said before , Alina "speaking abilities " is not very good) especially if you compare her with Zhenja and Lipnitskaya at the age 15 , she often repeats the same, learned phrases.. I am not blaming her, but I hope after one or two eyars she will be better .. I like her not for speeches )))) and I really loved her cute voice and laughing))

She's shy and introvert; when asked something non-formulaic, she often struggles finding words. On standard questions like "how did you like your performance" she used to respond very stereotypically (like most skaters) but recently she started adopting Zhenya's manners, which looks much more lively.

When speaking, she often keeps her lips strained and doesn't open them wide enough. Aside from that, her articulation is okay.

Like most Tatars, she doesn't have any accent. She probably speaks a bit slower than average.

Yes, she said "Eteri Georgievna" twice. Her speech has improved since then, though.

You put it very mildly. In Russian, it's not unusual to contract "Alexander Alexandrovich" to "San Sanych", which is not even diminutive.

Hahaa, even after I slow the playback speed, I don’t hear it! [emoji85]

[emoji33] LoL! It is very interesting to learn about a new culture/language.

But she is always genuine and cute. I’m sure she will improve! :)

The whole TV show is now on YouTube too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtJJiynHZzI

They really loved Alina, she got the most reaction shots and questions asked of all the skaters. And she is a fierce competitor, wanted to win all of it, and her face when she lost was funny.

Loved how she never watched curling before and thought the objective was to skate to the end of the rings fastest, her bit with Wakaba is hilarious. Kaetlyn saved the Canadian pride by being the first to actually get near the center ring.

Oh, that was what happened? - Omg, 🤣🤣🤣, she must be so miffed! Is there a English subtitled version?

I think so, she kicked her skates as she was being pushed, obviously thinking speed would be a plus, and she was so happy when she passed all the rings [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Sadly no english subs yet, and they dubbed the Russian, I’m interpreting her actions. On the “going around 6 times in a 100sec” challenge that they lost she new speed wasn’t an advantage and was super slow, Alina plays to win.

Lol, ya, I was wondering why she looked so pleased at the end! I tot she was just trying to strike a pretty pose despite losing. [emoji23][emoji24]

The last challenge was to get as close to 100 seconds as possible. Think they were saying that skaters shld hv an internal “beat” and shld hv won that.

She was fiercely competitive in the spinning challenge. Taking Wakaba’s spot to re-challenge the dude, lol! You go, gal!

Hope there will be subs soon! She said so many things which drew a reaction from the crowd.

Her pronunciation is very clean, maybe a little childish accent. In the interviews and press conferences, she obviously nervous, stumbles, mistakenly inclines the words sometimes. In Perescope streams she speaks very fluently.
