Alina Zagitova

Which japanese station paid her to interview her in her apartment.
OMG she does not even have a bed. She is sleeping on a low end sofa that fold to a bed. That she shared it with little sister. Very small apartment, grandmother, father, mother, little sister, her and cat + 2 chinchilla. with so much soft toys, no space at all. So sad, a tear come out of my eyes when i saw that.
And it is -19C outside.

She lives only with grandma in Moscow. Rest of the family lives in Izhevsk. In that video you are referring to the rest of the family is only visiting her.

Neither. It's obvious Eteri was just trying to make her not to think a lot about it. Eteri already went through similar situation with Lipnitskaya, so it's understandable why she does that now.

Finally someone with common sense...
People, please, try at least to think about things I have written above.

There is a difference between shielding Yulia from going to that disgusting VIP-party or things like that and letting people call Alina an Olympic champion. :noshake:
Coach jumping into the middle of small interview shouting "don't call her Olympic champion!" is rude and disrespectful. More than that, if you read some psychological/behavioural papers, you know being appreciated by others drive us to achieve distant goals.
If Eteri keeps doing it frequently, she will slowly squash Alina's satisfaction from hard work, she's been doing for so many years, which may influence her badly.

I was thinking about the things you have written above. I am too a Slavic person, and of course i can agree with some generalization about kids/teens in sports, but I have to disagree in this case.

Eteri not only interfered with TV interview but also was highly critical to Zasport when Alina had been making commercial with that firm. So it is not the case of treating almost 16 girl like a kid that does not know what is best for her, but publicly interfering with Alina chance to built her media image and new PR possibilities. Imagine Mishin saying that things about Liza T or Nina Mozer about Tarasova&Morozow.

and looking at Julia's case - was Eteri's strategy successful?

After I've seen the posts here about "people trying to downplay Alina's success" in the VK group I took a look at some of the recent posts there and you're right, everyone seems to hate her so much. Here are some translated posts(most upvoted ones):

What a wonderful, sunny, the best girl! ❤ You brought such a happiness to us with your victory! 😭🤗

A charming beautiful girl, the pride of our country!

A real winner! Olympic champion, good luck to you!

But then she became composed and did everything perfectly! This is how you get the gold!

I am only happy that she gets recognition in the VK group

Found the clip I was talking about yesterday.

Interviewer: Now people call you a hero and a stand up girl. Isn't that more difficult than becoming an Olympic Cham..
Eteri: No, no. Don't say that she is an Olympic Champion!
Alina: I have a cold and don't feel anything right now.

is that what Alina zagitova said that she has a cold and is that what her coach said no no no don't call her Olympic champion? Other than nyet and da I don't understand Russian.

On a side note I'm sure hoping Alina's cold does not hamper her preparation for worlds. I also hope all the publicity and interviews and media she has done recently does not distract her from her goal of becoming world champion after becoming in Olympic champion after becoming European champion after becoming Russian champion.

There are rumors about possible love affair between Alina and Kirill Kaprizov (hockey player).

I call BS on that! Besides Eteri would never allow it she rules with an iron purse!

I think this stupid Russian fake news media wants to create a story where the fifteen-year-old Russian gold medalist Alina is dating the Russian hockey player who scored the gold medal goal in overtime for Russia against Germany. Pure nonsense. :laugh2:

On a serious note I'm sorry young Alina Zagitova has to go through nonsense like these rumors in the media and I hope that somehow she doesn't hear about them and just stay focused on her skating.

It's not like Eteri controls her students' private life...
But it is funny that the article says something like the journalists told Eteri about that lol :laugh2:

A big THANK YOU to all the Russian speaking posters here who translate, provide perspective, cultural context, and clear up misunderstandings for the rest of us. It is very much appreciated!

Loving all the positivity toward Alina. Looking forward to Worlds and Akitas :)

Exactly. What's next? "Never send her Birthday cards"?

To me, people show their true colors not only with what they do but also with what they don't do. A true friend stands up for you when things get tough. When TAT lashed out at Alina's dad on national television and said that "we like Zhenya more", shouldn't someone have come out and said "What TAT did was uncalled for. Alina won and we're happy for her", or something similar? In such a situation, it's the right thing to do, even if you don't mean the words. But no one did, not Eteri, not Zhenya, nobody else. At the press conference we discussed yesterday, Eteri did everything but congratulating Alina. She spent most of her time talking about Zhenya and only indirectly mentioned Alina when she talked about "these girls".
