Alina Zagitova

I don't like it too, to be honest. Maybe this makes me stupid but I can live with it. I wouldn't allow my daughter to make this kind of photo by the age of 15.

But what is more important than this and all this fabricated "they hate Alina" narrative is alleged "people's calling for change of rules", as is in the article linked in Zhenya's thread. That I consider as real campaign against Alina and her team. The change of rules was considered for a long time, but somehow now somebody wants it to look as if that change comes due to Alina.

I agree with you wholeheartedly but they've been talking about changing the rules since Adelina Sotnikova beat Yuna Kim four years ago in Sochi when Adelina who skated great focused on adding up the points in the current scoring system. It worked for Adelina and it worked for Alina Zagitova Although people forget that Zagitova had the toughest routine of all the a medal containers. Some people in the media even referred to this as gaming the system. smh. didn't Evan lysacek in the Vancouver games Edge out Plushenko doing the same thing adding up the points?

This picture is great because Alina is happy.
She is not a child but a young woman, so two men are also fine.

Her fans are very stupid if they do not like the picture.

Alina hears from critics including Ashley Wagner and Lucinda Ruh that she's a little girl and not a woman she's trying to change her image of being a little girl with pictures like this and when she wears that body clinging tiger skin outfit when she skates in galas so she can show off her figure. Can you blame her?

I am sure when this is all over and the World Championships are done and Zagitova's season is over she needs to come to Disney World in Orlando Florida with just her family and really celebrate her olympic gold and leave everyone else in Russia. It's time for a Alina to act like the Olympic champion she is and not worry about what other people think. Adelina is gold medal was ruined by the constant attacks on her online with vile comments about her none of that vile stuff has happened against Alina other than criticism of the system and how she took advantage of it But that she hasn't really been able to celebrate being Olympic champion the way Olympic Champions get to celebrate is a little bewildering. But I hope it builds a Fire and Desire inside of her that can carry her through the next few years so she can become what she should be an all time great figure skater. I certainly wanted to congratulate Zagitova on her all-time great season to this point. :) It's truly hard to believe she's only 15 and accomplished so much in such a short span of time and it all started with her Junior World Championship about a year ago.

That picture was taken long time before olympics, I believe (if I'm wrong, please correct me). ALina proves that she is strong and reasonable far beyond her age and I don't think it is necessary to show adulthood just by this pretty cheap way (its like HBO's shows, "there is nudity and blood which makes our shows mature and sophisticated" :) ). I'm not prude at all, but I believe there are different ways to také happy pictures of Alina, at least till she is still in age of a child.

Yes, it was taken in last December. But it's not like she chose the pose... I'm surprised her parents accepted though...:scratch2:

I don't agree that anyone on her coaching team 'hates Alina'. For one thing I don't think she is 'hateable' on any level. For another it would be stupid for them not to support her. I think what we are seeing from them (and in some cases not seeing from them) is their stunned reactions. Obviously they knew what Alina's tech capability was but thought Zhenya's components would give her gold. Nothing wrong with them thinking that. A lot of people did.

I don't think true Russian figure skating fans or the elite skaters 'hate' Alina. They feel a little blind-sided. Like Tara said on the broadcast, she came out of nowhere so no-one has had a chance to get used to the idea that Alina will defeat Zhenya and take the gold medal. The Russian figure skating world has had Zhenya's name on that medal for awhile now. Alina (and the judges) flipped the script.

Zhenya has handled it all so graciously and Alina has conducted herself so humbly that I think everything will settle into place.

Idk if anyone of you remember but Alina has said multiple times that she’s scared of Eteri. Obvs this impacts the relationship with her team. Zhenya is not, so the relationship is much better

Does anyone in Russia stand up for Alina Zagitova and say she deserved that gold medal?
No. Not a single person. Only her neighbours in Izhevsk, who made this sign in front of the family's appartment building:
https://www.sports.ru/tribuna/blogs/voronin/1596660.html

It reads: "Here lives the Olympic Champion Alina Zagitova. We are proud. - Neighbours"

This is the only instance (that I've seen) where someone publicly congratulated Alina in a proper way.

And no, I don't think people "hate" her in the traditional sense. But it's clear to me that her OGM win messed up the big plans that the FS higher-ups had for Zhenya. Had Alina taken silver, everything would have been fine. I'll make a bigger post about that later, where I'll break down what I think is going on.

Evgeny Plushenko said she earned it. There's an article somewhere.

I agree with you that the story was supposed to be Gold for Zhenya and Silver for Alina. Hence the look on Eteri's face during scoring - (Judges.What.Are.You.Doing?) Someone forgot to give the judges the memo and the points added up the way they added up.

But no one can take this away from her now. No one can argue with her technical ability. Nor can anyone blame her for skating the technical content and choreo she was given to the best of her ability. She did as she was trained, executed well, and the judges did what they did. Not her fault. It would be easier to blame Eteri, if Eteri didn't look so completely blown away by what happened.

Also Alina just seems unbothered by any fuss being made. She has posted 2 pics on IG since winning OG. One photo of the team (Eteri, Sergei, Zhenya, Daniil and herself) and one of herself and Rita in the pet store! I think she posted an IG story about the BMW. Not one pic of the medal, the podium, Putin, state ceremonies, anything. This is not a girl who cares about drawing attention to herself. I think her humility and her natural charm and grace are winning people over. Just my perception.

What is really going on?

it's nice that her neighbors in her hometown are treating her so well cuz it's been few and far between from what it seems to me.

Plushenko said that? Good. Adelina said some really nice things too but that was basically about both Alina and Evgenia.

if Zagitova wins the world championship in a couple of weeks I'm sure her coach Eteri will show real joy, right? ;) Maybe the pressure of the Olympics got to Eteri. Maybe she will be happier now when Alina wins.

Plushenko wanted Alina to win(Alina is a "diamand") but he said it openly after the OG. It was very wise.. .

One of his columns this was after the competition http://www.sport-express.ru/olympic...skryvayu-sekrety-kolonka-plyuschenko-1377142/

Thank you, plushyfan. I looked for what I had read and couldn't find it!

I appreciate what he had to say. Very wise indeed.

Others seem to be little 'emotional' and less 'logical' about the way it turned out. Which is fine! I get it.

I'm just happy to have found a skater that I feel emotionally invested in again.

What a great article with great insight from the greatest Russian figure skater of all time Evgeni Plushenko on the performance and talents in the Olympics of Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva.

Spasibo Plushyfan.

Alina will attend some shows in Japan at the end of March-beginning of April.
Who is usually going with the skaters who are minors to this kind of shows? Parents or coaches?

Alina will end up with a very nice prize haul from her Olympic success:
+4,000,000 rubles from the Russian government for winning a gold medal
+2,500,000 rubles from the Russian government for winning a silver medal
+4,000,000 ruble BMW X5 from the Russian Olympians Foundation
Russian medalists are also awarded prize money from up to two regions that they represent/train in, so Alina may receive:
+6,500,000 rubles from the governor of Moscow, where she lives and trains
+2,500,000 rubles (estimated) from the governor of Izhevsk, her hometown
Some past medalists have also been gifted apartments from the head of the local province. (Wink wink, nudge nudge!)
Alina's total winnings could reach 20,000,000 rubles, which is about 350,000 U.S. dollars! Well deserved! And she is receiving a dog from Japan, too!

if she were American you can turn that $350,000 Alina she will make in American Dollars into 3.5 million dollars if an American Girl won the gold. I hope she can buy a much bigger apartment or house for her family and pets. fish huge Akita dog she will get soon or has will need a back yard to run around in and who's going to take care of that dog? Not Alina she is almost never home.

I hope Alina is in good form at worlds and then I hope she gets to rest forva while she has earned it.

I think Alina's grandmother and the Akita are going to become best friends when Alina is traveling. I think a bigger apartment is going to have to come before the dog. For the cat's sake if nothing else!

I wonder how much a nice three bedroom apartment that is reasonably close to her skating rink would cost?
