Alina Zagitova

What if Alina doesn't like the music? Is that a common practice that coaches choose the music and don't tell the skater?
From what I've read, yeah. It seems like usually with Eteri's group, the coaches pick the music and the skaters tend to go with it. I'm not sure if anyone's actually complained about the music that was picked for them and demanded a different one...

I think they do trust their team to make a strong program... and in Alina's case, she might be afraid to complain :D

I always wondered if she likes her Gala program, because she seems kinda shy in her real life...

I think Yulia's first FS from olympic season she and her mother didn't enjoy, I think, but not absolutely sure, that the first FS they had planned was what was eventually Zhenya's first senior FS. So they picked something else and that's how Schindler's List came about.

As for Alina, I'd love for her to do tango. Something with more passionate drama, I think it would suit her and allow her to flourish artistically.

Interesting post-gala interview. She said she wasn't physically tired or nervous btw - at all 0_0 And all was clean in practice before. It was some kind of emotional emptiness during skate like she was in a dream :scratch2:

And photos of smiling Alina :luv17: :)

Found another photo of her showing her nails:

I am hoping that Alina won't be afraid to speak up if she's not happy with something because she is the Olympic champion and her opinion should matter. She is coach Eteri's first olympic singles gold medalist afterall. But if Alina is not happy with something she may mention it to Danill or Sergei first just to be safe. ;)

By the way when Alina goes to her hometown to stay with her family for a while I hope her hometown gives her a day of honorand celebrates her gold medal with her. She deserves it.

Here is a link to an article about the most recent press conference - https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20180327/1134667037.html

Eteri blames Alina's performance on lack of experience and the fact that she had been sick an unable to maintain optimum physical condition. She also says there is no need to wonder about where the motivation will come from for next season. They have it now.

So I guess that is the silver lining.Alina had her highest high and lowest low. If she had just won everything right out of the gate it might be hard to hit the re-set button and start all over again next season. Loss at Worlds = motivation.

So now this season is over :( It has been a roller coaster. Thanks so much to the fans and posters in this thread. You made it so much more fun.
Now we will be depending on the Russian fans (and russiafan :) ) to bring over news of Alina for us and save us from Google translate!

I agree with Eteri. It was all too much for Alina and it caught up with her and she was a little off her game and it made all the difference in the Milan long program.

On the press conference, which was linked in Sasha's thread, Eteri said the 3 cm Alina has grown up were even before the OG, not after. That means she has no problem dealing with it so far, so the WFSC should be really considered as current failure.

Thank you for the interview it was a pleasure to read with english translation.

I want a Alina Zagitova to make that decision whether to backload her program or not. I do not want the ISU to make that decision. Nor do I want them to raise the age to participate on the senior tour. Zagitova won the Olympics at 15 and Medvedeva won the World Championships at 16 and 17. So now age is an issue and it's supposed to be raised? BS Tara Lipinski won the World Championships at 14 then the Olympics at 15 did they raise the age limit or was there even serious talk about it? Nyet I think if Americans or Canadians had wonnthis Olympic gold medal at 15 and then the last two World Championships at 16 and 17 then there wouldn't be any discussion about raising the age limit. But because its the Russians the age limit may be raised and they're like robots I guess coming out of a machine. ;) Not really the Russian skaters are just better than other countries skaters at a young age just the way Lipinski was.

Right. When Mao was too young for 2006 Olympics, a lot were crying for changing the age limit to allow her to compete. Now if only the japaness girls were backloading, nobody would have complained about it or have said 'that's not a program'.
