Alina Zagitova

Congratulations to Alina, it was very close but she is very deserving! And Evgenia for being such an amazing athlete and person for handling it like a champion.

Others didn't show the class of Evgenia though:
TAT during the stream said she hoped Evgenia would win and apologizes to Alina... talk about unprofessional

And Alina looking so mixed with emotion when she found out she won; she was crying but just put on a face and I bet it's bittersweet; she wanted to win but also wanted her teammate to win. These two girls are incredible, it was one competition and could have gone either way, but they show the best sportsmanship. Hopefully those figure skating fans back at home will show her the same grace that Evgenia has. I'm a little afraid for her, people don't seem to be happy at her win.

Excellent skate, Alina. Courage and strength and stamina in the heat of an amazing final. You and Evgenia were perfect and helped push each other further. And your affection for each other, sportsmanship towards each other, friendship was equally amazing to witness. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Alina! I'm very happy for her, just fifteen and she moved so far from home to realize her dreams and, quite frankly, she deserved more enthusiasm for her win. I understand that Evgenia has been around for longer and is more known but Alina seems a bit underappreciated even in her own team and this made me root for her! Anyway, it's done! Congratulations to Alina! :luv17:

Zagitova: I didn't quite feel like I became the Oly gold medalist ... but I felt very happy but kind of empty inside. But then I fully realize that my career so far - all the work that I have done - was no in vain, and I will try to continue with the same momentum

Why kind of empty inside?

For a while I thought Alina lost the gold, I was standing for her program and Zhenya with my heart in mouth. I’m still shocked at how close it was. When the announcement came that Zhenya’s score was 156 something and Alina got the gold. I was —-> :)

Lots of respect to Medvedeva though I would’ve been happy for her to win also.

Congratulations to Alina! What an amazing performance! :cheer2: :hap10:
I live in Alina's hometown Izhevsk and this girl is very special to me. I'm just so proud and happy she did it!

I have to send my gratulations to Alina, too. She is 15 and she is stunning lady in the red. Although I wished Zhenya would take the gold a little more, Alina's victory is well deserved. But I would be the happiest if both ladies took the gold. That never happened to me before.

Because of Zhenya she likes and respects her so much. This was supposed to be Zhenya's time she's one of the best ever and did not lose a competition for almost 2 years. For Alina to be so sensitive to Zhenya in such an important moment shows what a good person she is. Congrats to both Russians they are great skaters and great people and to say their country a down and damaged sports nation like no other needed them is an understatement. I am also glad Adelina has been cleared of any doping and that Russia has won 2 ladies figure skating olympics in a row after all the gold medalists they had in dance, pairs and mens. Amazing. Another figure skating dynasty is born in Russia! :agree:

Well, she did it!! She won the Olympics!! So happy for her and she should be so proud of herself! And to think this girl didn't even have her triples three years ago and is now the OGM!!

For Alina one of the most fragile figure skaters I have ever seen to perform like she did in the team even then in the short and long programs is incredible for a 15 year old with the weight of a country of 140 million people and a badly damaged sports program on her back because of the doping scandal and no gold medals at these olympics and having the doping police ruin her short program practice and having media hacks like Christine Brennan attack her programs even with all that still go on to win gold I can only say this is one of the most deserving gold medalists ever in the olympics. Her fans family and country should be proud so very proud of her and Zhenya. :)

Congrats Alina you deserved that gold so much. Congrats to Zhenya too. What great talents and sportsmen.
