Alina Zagitova

Drop in just to say, since I know someone folks who interact with Sambo 70. There is no way Alina's team does not like her.
Danill is very good to her for example. And I'd say whoever wins Gold will be fine with Eteri as well.

I'm a fan of both Alina and Yuna so I don't think the latter part was necessary. I think Alina has something to learn from Yuna and I look forward to seeing Alina develop artistically as she grows.

you such a fan
here's a couple of posts, where are you expressing all your love for alina. and i can find many more

Don't you see? Alina reached the peak of skating perfection and maturity at 15! Her recycled program from the junior circuit is actually the peak of artistry! Everything we have been taught about posture, upper body control, and smooth edge quality is actually subjective and irrelevant. We should all just sit quietly and bow our heads to the jumpfest and hunched torso skating, because it is the new Gold Standard.

Clearly, Satoko, Mai, and other skaters like Soyoun and Dabin could have had higher PCS if they flailed their arms, opened their mouths a bit more, threw in some more mimes (good job Kaori, this is why her PCS is on the rise!), and hunched their backs a little more. Especially Soyoun. Look at that graceful use of arms and lovely upper body control. That's not what we need in this sport! Nope!

The problem is that these young skaters like Zagitova, upon earning these marks, think that they have hit some kind of artistic and SS ceiling. I actually believe that with some proper ballet training and an international coach (like Orser) + good choregraphy Zagitova could become a much more refined and expressive skater. Instead, the judges' scores are telling her that there is literally nothing she needs to do to improve...

but i guess alina will attract now more of evgenia haters to pretend that they are fans. unfortunately she has nothing to learn from yuna. zhenya is her favorite skater and she will learn from her

They don't even have to like her or any other skater from the group. It's a business at the end.

I agree. And they all did their jobs very well. Just saying her team does not play favourite over any girl. I am sure Eteri is fine with whoever wins.

Oh btw just saw something disgusting on facebook though: https://www.facebook.com/lucinda.ruh.7/posts/10155102471926470?pnref=story

How come a former skater talks about the current skater like this. Lucinda is like >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ashley. I guess the Russian girls being strong rub these people on the wrong side. They should check their high blood pressure often.

It's just club of discarded persons, nothing to be taken seriously.

Well I had to log back on just to say something about the haters to vent. Geesh, all these people jealous about the skill of Alina and Evgenia. I think Tara Lipinski and Scott Weir mentioned that the Russian school is ahead because they have started preparing their juniors better than other coaches and so now other countries are just now playing catch-up. Stop with the jealousy and just improve to compete. Maybe we need to form the knights of Alina or something? Sworn protectors of her honor and fandom (joking). Anyway, this Lucinda is just showing her absolute ignorance. Why? Because she forgets Tara Lipinski (15), Sarah Hughes (17), and Oksana Bauil(16/17)???? And how can you praise Osmond’s so-called artistry and not speak of Evgenia’s????? It wasn’t only because of her jumps that she won competitions. Her artistry!!! Have you seen the ability to evoke emotion from an audience better from any other skater other than Evgenia over the past two years? This is like saying Jack Black deserves an academy award over Lawrence Olivier. Lucinda just seems to be a disappointed Osmond fan. Stop the hate. Your skater got a bronze. That’s not a bad thing. Don’t slander the gold and silver medalists. Move on.

Yes, plenty of skaters and without the need to mime everything.

Hello Alina fans. Just want to cross-post about the artistry I see in Alina's program...it's within the context of disagreeing that she has no balletic artistry in DQ. She does have lots of artistry! Her PCS to me...and the judges..are justified because of the details she puts into and performs from the beginning pose to the final spin.

Ballet is controlled from torso, but ice skating is mainly from hips to toes.

The only person I can think of trying to perform ballet on ice is Oksana Bauil wearing lots of feathers....but I don't like doing this tippy toe and fluttering trembling arms, swanning around the rink. The ballet I understand is very athletic, very controlled, very human-defying moves, though aesthetic and graceful. Not unlike ice skating as a sport.

I will disagree strongly about ballet only using soft arms movement, as the prima ballerina portraying Kitri has to learn the Spanish port de bras. The Spanish Kitri is young, feisty, fierce, passionate and flirtatious. She isn't a delicate flower as she fought for her happiness. Flamenco dance is also strong and fiery. I disagree that flamenco took from ballet - I'm almost sure flamenco originates from gypsy or Indian dance tradition? I need to check. It's the other way round, ballet borrows from flamenco to portray Spanish themed narratives.

The Vaganova classes prepare the higher grades with special Spanish arms classes just for the possibility of performing to Don Quixote and other Spanish roles.

Below...At 1:46 is where they crook their arm in front like Alina did, I know you dislike it, but this is a typical Spanish arm move:

They are full of "crooked elbow and wrist action", and different from typical ballet "oval" port de bras classes. The future prima ballerinas have to learn different character portrayal.

Here's one about Kitri

http://www.pointemagazine.com/don-quixote-kitri-variation-choreography-2412811313.html

As for Alina, due to constant figure skating motion, which I explain is very different from ballet movements and muscle use, I don't think she can do the same repertoire of arm movements like in a real ballet, though there are many moments and poses in her DQ which are unmistakably from the ballet, when she places her arm on her hip, when she places her crooked right arm in front of her chest as if holding a fan, etc. I find her arms doing their own dance as mesmerizing to watch as her legs! If fans are interested they might even do screen shots of the p d 2 and shots of Alina doing similar poses to compare.

One pure Vaganova prima ballerina arm moment is her Ina Bauer and the flick of her wrists at the end. Another is after the mid-point when she flirtatiously floreos her arms. It's a moment when she is in a stable situation and can really pay that attention to the play of her arms, a small detail but I enjoy it so much.

Is she perfect like a real DQ p b? No. Did she bring a lot of Kitri in her artistry? Yes, as much as any figure skater could, under the circumstances of doing ice skating, unable to perform in ballet mode.

I just have to say I share the same views as the judges who score her performance highly.

To me, I feel we are lucky to watch an attempt to portray DQ on ice this way, with so many details, so many transitions, with arms to match, with such a well-arranged score, coupled with the jumps galore finale. This DQ is a beautifully crafted program. :agree: Don't ever doubt team Alina for making it an Olympic worthy program. And how many figure skaters can portray feisty Kitri, bring in sublime flexibility and do the jumps of Basilio? I don't think we will see another one for many many many years.

unbelievable post thank you so much I Echo everything you said and I too was appalled when I read Lucinda's Facebook post and then they comments after that were just as terrible.

when Evan lysacek defeated yevgeny plushenko in the 2010 Olympics by a razor-thin margin did the media go crazy when one of the all-time greats narrowly missed his second individual gold medal? Did Evan face the hate that Adelina and Alina zagitova do?

remember that 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics ended the long string of Russian or Soviet male figure skater winners.

It annoyed me how nobody ran over to congratulate Alina and everyone was fussing over Evgenia..

I agree with you. But if I say the team slightly preferred evgenia we understand it because they've worked with her longer and her coronation was supposed to be at these Olympics and she was great too maybe just as great as Alina zagitova was. I also think that evgenia is foot fracture late last year took some of her fine form away from her but she recovered nicely for the Olympics but would she have been even better without that injury? I think so.
