Thats not a big deal. We know at the beginning of the season she had to attack from much lower positions. She rode great, but she was little tired. For Caroline (and her skate was brilliant) its maybe tha last competition so she gave everything into it. Alina was like "yeah, one more time before the season ends" :)

I also think 2nd place after sp is not a problem, the difference with 1st place is less than one point and Carolina was fabulous today, so it is fair. Alina handled the pressure at her first Worlds really well and was able to save combo, good for her. She needs to show one more time great skate of her Don Quixote and everything will be fine!

Alina is less than one full point behind Carolina. I believe she can win it all if she skates clean in the long. But she has a fight on her hands and that may be for the best. It will bring out the warrior in her.

Alina started this great season in Bergamo (Lombardia Trophy), she's ending it in Milano so almost in the same place. Hopefully she will finish it as she started - unbeatable :)
Today's SP wasn't her best, but Alina still did well. Great that she managed to save her 3L-3Lo combo.
She looked a bit tired and disappointed after the skate - she is so ambitious :luv17:

Skate order for the final group is:

Kaetlyn Osmond
Maria Sotskova
Gabrielle Daleman
Satoko Miyahara
Alina Zagitova
Carolina Kostner

Alina right before Carolina. Will judges be more likely to hold their scores? Especially for PCS...

Yes. Its Kostners final competition so if she skates clean she will be scored very high. Maybe kind of like Adelina in Sochi according to some ;) The crowd will be loud for Carolina like he Sochi crowd was for Sotnikova and that may sway the judges.

To me Alina has the advantage going into the long program she has a higher scoring program as far as I know and she's not going last. The pressure on Carolina Kostner not to let her fans down in her final competition at home will be immense. But she's 31 years old and pressure probably won't get to where she seen everything in her career and this is really all new for Alina who is only 15.

If for some reason Alina does not win the gold the positive outlook will be she would be fired up to be even better next year and the year after for the world championships because that would be the only thing on her resume that would be missing at such a young age. But I am hoping she pulls it off tomorrow and completes her perfect season. Either way Alina zagitova has had a historic season the best ever debut season without question. and if she wins the long program tomorrow she wins the world championship gold medal and completes the greatest season ever in my eyes. Good luck Alina and well done on a very good short program.

Carolina Kostner has been over scored many times in her outstanding career like a lot of skaters and I remember the 2014 World Championships when she received the bronze medal that should have gone to Anna Pogorilaya.

there's some talk about raising age limit for figure skating T 16 or 17 which would be ridiculous because a 15 year old is having one of the greatest seasons ever but I do not think figure skating once I have a 15 year old have a perfect season when they're trying to raise the age limit so I fear that Alina will get squeezed in athe ong program.

Alina needs to close the door. Don't give the judges the opportunity to withhold numbers.

also how did the other two Russian ladies do when will they keep their three spots?

hopefully in the future they'll make room for for skater for any country that has the best and most highly ranked skaters whether it's Russia Canada or America or Japan it doesn't matter the rankings need to matter and if one country has 5 skaters in the top 10 that should mean something.

How does she close the door? Alina's normal long program performance might not be enough tomorrow or rather Friday because of circumstances out of her control.

What does she do add another triple? Maybe a quad like Sasha? ;)

girl was robbed... 80.75 would have een more appropriate... really she only lost out on GOE... so going down from her previous SP score by about 2pts seems fair

After all the fuss was made about her great scores at the Olympics and winning the gold medal at 15 years old are you surprised her score came down? I am disappointed but not surprised especially considering the circumstances of a possible Fairytale ending for someone very popular in figure skating Carolina Kostner.

Her normal long program scores 156-158. Her worst score for lp this season was in cup of china -144(and one jump was underrotated there and her pcs were 68 at that time, at ECh and OG it was 75). Carolina's personal best is 142. So, let's be positive and have trust in Alina ;)

Exactly. Even if Carolina would do her best, she would be still some 8 points behind Alina'a average. I was little worried that there would be some pressure on her (like she needs to confirm her results, there is no team number one Zhenya who attracts attention on her and she has to deal with attention herself and so on) but I believe now she is dealing with it great.

I was in Milan today.
Very solid competition from her, i saw her in Lombardia Throphy and now, I think she improved so much. I also did expect she would win the competition, Carolina was the best Caro today but Alina always have little more.
In the free skate, the game will be surely different.

I just meant skate clean and with her heart. She doesn't need to do any more than she usually does. Just don't do anything less :)

Thank you for the numbers. I just hope if Alina skates a very good program as we expect that she gets scored that way and that Carolina does not get over scored as she has at times in her career even as good as she is. No matter what happens Alina had a phenomenal season really an epic season.
