Alina Zagitova

Wow - that is a great point.... I think at the very least a 3-3-3 combo should be rewarded. If a skater can have an 8-triple program by doing a triple axel then I don't see why it can't be allowed for a 3-3-3 also.

I vote for European Championships (hopefully there are videos out there) - overall that may have been her best performance of DQ.

And... finally - I have been using the "manicure dating system" also  - it really does help.

I vote for that 3-3-3 to be unleashed!! I’m with you.

Great idea about a side by side of Olympics DQ and European Championship DQ, will get cracking on that.

LOL about rhe manicure dating system, best name ever, it is a great timeline builder.

What a great job! - I would have given you a million "thumbs up" if I could.

Amazing how the triple flip in both videos lined up perfectly. The double axel just about matched up too!

Glad you kept the commentary - I already miss Johnny Weir saying "Medvedeva" & "Zagitova" - channeling his "Inner Russian"

Oh I miss Johnny too, his comments are so great and on point and I’m so glad he speaks Russian, got a full lesson on how to pronounce words correctly.

I’m glad you enjoyed the side by sides, I liked it so much because it gave me a whole new appreciation for her performance ability. Even with the subtle tempo changes she matched up the important music beats to a T, that is skill and knowledge of the program.

Guys, the competitive season ended a month ago and I still find myself almost every day watching either Alina's SP or LP, mostly from the Olympics but the other performances also have this hypnotizing effect on me... Every time I start watching them, I feel like I am watching for the first time and although I know what's coming next, I still feel surprised by the complex and rich step sequences and the dramatic (Black Swan) and joyful (DQ) jumping and spinning parts. And I can't get enough, they just look so satisfying with the music accents and her grace and air and spin positions. I absolutely love these emblematic programs.

I even found an article in Russian that was posted here last year with a translation of Alina's answer to the question what her new SP will be like - The source is http://www.fsrussia.ru/intervyu/302...a-ldu-babushka-podruzhilas-s-kompyuterom.html
And her explanation is: "The story is about how an innocent white Swan was born, which is faced with the cruelty and reality of our world, and gradually turns into what it is necessary for him to be in this world to achieve the result and the knowledge of perfection."

And with time, I got used to her short program and can feel this transformation, I think it fits her personal story and development in the world of figure skating perfectly. Oh and not to mention how I get goosebumps from the moment she does the Charlotte spiral until the big finale. Russians just know how to perform to big music.

By the way, a small observation about Alina's start and end of the season - her first competition was the Lombardia Trophy, she won it and had a good time with Daniil in Milan after her first senior win https://www.instagram.com/p/BZHV4P4lbGR/?taken-by=d_gleikh (People even ship them in the comment section below, lol :D)
And then she goes back to Milan a few months later as the reigning Olympic champion and has her only defeat for the whole season. Isn't it interesting how different and important both events for her carrier are and both of them in Italy? I wish she goes back there for the third time and wins SP and LP! And I wish to be there to witness it :D

And last but not least - it's a great idea to make a channel with the best videos of Alina! I love the head video of Alina doing the combo for the bank commercial but taken from this particular angle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=aKE12fiDcnA Maybe they should have used this footage for the actual commercial but the original is also very impressive.

I agree with your entire post, great take on this wonderful season and her programs. I also enjoy watching them over and over, the experience is always fresh and exciting.

Oh that Sberbabk commercial slow mo is the stuff of dreams.

Thanks for doing this!

Super impressed by the manicure analysis!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it.

Alina is going to make me a manicure expert, reminds me of those “find seven differences between picture” games. Or, in this case, similarities.

Very possible. :) I remember it being mentioned in an interview that the guy from the Russian Skating Federation called and told her to go shopping after the free skate disappointment. Nothing like a little retail therapy in Milan. ;)

That's why credit cards were invented!

Two classic Johnny quotes....
"she is choreographed to within an inch of her life" --- said with his usual dramatic flair:drama:(I think he said this at Europeans)
"the precision of Zah-GEEEEE-toh-vah" - (defintely from Europeans)

My favorite though may have been from Tara.... (Olympics)
"nobody saw her coming - she completely changed the narrative"

What still amazes me is how beautifully the top 4 ladies skated. Alina, Evgenia, Katelyn, Satoko - they were all fantastic.
My favorite Olympics of all time.

one of the first comments by Tara about Alina :) she knew it right there  i remember that moment when it seemed almost impossible for Evgenia to not become Olympic champion

Ohh I love these quotes, you picked the best ones. I have another one of Johnny that I absolutely love, about DQ during the Olympics Team event: "this free program is almost like running a full marathon and then 50 sprints right after it", and then Tara said this also on the same event, "but the best part Johnny is it's so difficult but she makes it look so easy". Olympics was special because, as you so beautifully pointed out, everyone performed at the top of their game. Except for a couple of lady skaters, all the others gave top performances during the Olympics, and that was a joy to watch. It was a race to the top and not a race from the bottom.

That about sums it up for me, Alina can do something so hard that others won't even try and make it look like a leisure walk in the park.

She has amazing stamina and conditioning too, I've noticed that although she is being pushed to the max on that program she is never winded and panting heavily when she leaves the ice. She doesn't even seriously sweat, I know she is probably inside the world's coldest freezer right there, but I've seen plenty of others sweating buckets.

I agree. But Sochi ladies competition was very good too.

Now, we waiting Don Quixote

I vote for European Championships (hopefully there are videos out there) - overall that may have been her best performance of DQ.

Ok Guys, like Tara says "fasten your seat belts Alina Zagitova is about to start".

Here is the side by side comparison of two Dom Quixote programs: Europeans (left side) vs Olympics Team Event (right side), audio is from the Olympics because that is just awesome. There are slight variations on the programs and the one from Europeans runs about 0.00.05 sec earlier, but fixing that mismatched other things so I decided to leave it.

Google drive link, you can play it right there on the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WTrR4EkpaMi-TO5_kre5ywfdBlsmZQ33 (as I post this, video is still being processed by Google Drive but link should work in a bit)

As usual, enjoy!!! EdRoz, thank you for the incentive, and Lesnar001, thank you for the incentive and for choosing the Europeans as comparison, that worked out really well.

You are ..you are .. our Fairy
Thank you !!!
Finally, I see that Alina was better and better ,from one performance to another.
The Olympics became the peak :clapper:

Double perfection. Thank you, lusk8 :thumbsup: This video is like medicine for my soul; when I'll have a bad day I'll just watch it and boost my mood instantly :yahoo:
