I hope Alina can avoid being drawn into commenting on this whole thing. I hope she can go on vacation asap, get a nice hero's welcome in Izhevsk, see her extended family, get away somewhere to a beach for a little while, and just avoid all the drama.

When she gets back it will time for Masaru to make her Russian debut! I think that will take Alina's entire focus away from anything negative.

This is going to get ugly and I just want Alina out of it.

Have to say this is the bit of Eteri’s speech that I disbelieved the most as Zhenya’s behaviour has never seemed to be like this and the two girls seem to close for that. However it could have been made it an off hand manner like if only Zagitova was still a junior the same way she might be if only I didn’t have a stress fracture. That being said I hope Alina doesn’t get drawn into all of this mess and is still able to be friends with Zhenya cause they were rlly adorable together

I'm sure they are close, but one thing I am learning is that appearances are incredibly deceiving. We never really know what is going on with people. Watching these relationships play out Zhenya and Eteri seemed to have a perfect understanding. Eteri and Alina, not so much.

There were moment I saw Eteri behave in ways toward Alina that I thought were emotionally abusive. (After the short program in the kiss and cry at the French Gran Prix event. I wanted to beat Eteri with Alina's skate guards.) I could not believe Eteri (and for that matter Daniil, who seemed to be taking his cues from Eteri that day) would not at least fake some compassionate behavior for the tv cameras!

My take away from all of this is that I know very, very little of what is actually going on with these relationships.

If Zhenya said that, she is a teenaged girl. She is entitled to an emotional moment after the biggest disappointment of her life. I don't respect her any less for saying it. I do respect Eteri less for making that public.

Alina's parents need to throw Alina in the BMW and get the heck out of Moscow right now. There is an ice rink and her old coach and choreographer in her hometown. She and Daniil can Facetime her training if she want to work on POTO until her vacation officially starts.

It seems like the media is going to be foaming at the mouth over this. No good can come of it.

Zhenya had to understand that the decision reg Alina was taken not only by Eteri, two top skaters should go to the Olympic games, Rusfed needed 200% confidence in victory, either Zhenya or Alina, no accidents

Yeah - I don't understand what good can come out of this. It is wrong on so many levels.

It was bad enough when reporters wanted Alina's response to Ashley Wagner's twitter comments.

This is from someone who Alina trained with and looks up to. How does this benefit anyone?

Why should Alina be "collarteral damage" in a potential media battle between Eteri & Evgenia?

She is still first and foremost - a soon to be 16 year old girl. THIS IS NOT FAIR TO HER AT ALL!!!!

I don't think Alina will be affected by this... figure skating is a cruel word and the skaters are used from childhood with cruelty and selfishness.
But, next season it will be a bloodbath. Eteri would want to prove that she's the best coach in the world, and Alina will feel the pressure as the no 1 in her camp. And the truth is that Daniil or Sergey cannot stop Eteri from whatever she has in her mind.
Evgenia, on the other hand, will be even more motivated to prove that moving to another coach was the right decision.

I think she's telling the truth, but indeed it is not something that should be disclosed to the public.
And Evgenia probably had an emotional moment after losing the gold, it's just understandable.

Sure, but I don't believe she is lying. I doubt that Zhenya was above asking something like this, since it was likely her only chance of winning an OGM.

She should probably stay put. Eteri won't want another 'defection' so there will probably be a marked improvement in her attitude toward Alina. Long may it last. This next season would be the perfect time for Alina to win Worlds.

However, she also needs a long-term plan that does not include Eteri. Her parents need to be thinking about that and considering available options. This time next year she will only be 17. That is young to have to move abroad but not impossible.

At least Alina's eyes (and her parents' eyes) will be opened by this experience.

I don't think that moving abroad is the answer. First of all, it costs of lot and secondly it doesn't mean that she would have better results than with Eteri.

No , maybe not.. Eteri can not push a member of the team to the street, if the skater wants to train, no one can prohibit, everything is paid for by Rusfed. Sotnikova is still a member of the Russian team and Rusfed pays her expenses if necessary (she does not use it)
