Alina Zagitova

3 important dates coming later this month....

May 12th - Japanese TV show with Alina, Katelyn Osmond, and Javier Fernandez airs. Youtube videos sure to follow soon after.

May 18th - Alina's birthday (Happy Birthday Sweet 16) --- also this is EdRoz's birthday as well!

May 31st - MASARU arrives ---- maybe (?) possibly (?) even involving the PM of Japan!

Sorry for the big type but I want to make sure it stands out - these 3 things can help keep us positive in these ever changing times.

Great big fonts. We need all the positivity now!

I’m down for the big fonts and bold colors.

Important dates, they are already on my calendar.

I hope the media won't be all over Alina for a quote.

And Eteri is not in a foul mood at the rink. Poor Alina, poor kids.
Not too worried about Eteri -I'm sure they've seen her in worse moods. :curse:

Always worry about the press - but the coaching staff should make sure to keep the press away from her. This is not like her being questioned about Ashley's comments as part of their interviewing her post-Olympics. There should be no reason for them to talk to her now.

Pretty soon (from what I've seen here) the skaters will be on break from training for a while. Then Masaru arrives on May 31st. Heaven help any idiot that tries to ask her questions during that event which will also be covered heavily by the Japanese media.

In my first post about two weeks ago, I mentioned that I believed Eteri psychologically sabotaged Alina at worlds. I’m more convinced than ever. I could tell the crazy from that woman. Eteri couldn’t stand to be wrong, this girl she hadn’t thought much of was about to win everything in her first senior season. She had been pushing Zhenya and Alina winning threatened that narrative, it also threatened her personally as she lives vicariously through Alina. She had believed Alina would choke and needed to prove that it would happen eventually. She knew what buttons to press to psych out Alina prior to her free skate. This woman is all about protecting her own ego, as the Zhenya interview demonstrates.
I don't think Eteri is evil. She is more like... thinking she's right always? I mean everyone has to be like that to get to a certain position. The thing is this is athletes health and mentality we are talking about, especially young girls. I am worried for Alina because she's still so young and fragile. At least from what I know, Danill is fond of her.

Alina was never a flavor of the month figure skater as in “look at that 5 year old with those quads”, she is going to be huuuge.

I actually like that a lot, that she evolved in a linear way and got to be crazy good. I feel that makes it more sustainable. She worked hard, she got to reap the big rewards that come with developing a talent.

Then when she became part of the conversation she was praised as being great and a hard worker who wouldn’t settle for giving less than her best. Great attention to detail I believe was what the ISU narrator said about her first junior season in St Gervais (where she won) and even in Ljubljana (where she got 3rd place). I recommend watching those videos at this great YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUwSUmtxYSHI2oYBtsdnMvQ

When she came into her own she did it in a big way.

Her training allowed her to develop without getting the “second coming” treatment and she has been there for 3 (almost 4 I think) years. By now, she knows the coaches and knows what she’ll get from (and out of) them. It worked great for her so far and I have confidence it will continue to work even more during this upcoming season.

In the end she was nicely friendly towards Alina at both venue and medal ceremonies, was super nice to her in Japan during normal interactions and was nice to her in Korea. That’s what she is supposed to do, they have different tastes, a reasonable age gap, and yet have interacted nicely and even had some fun. I think that’s how it’s supposed to be.

I know. All I was seeing during the Olympics were pictures and videos of Alina and Evgenia goofing around with each other. I don't know if what Eteri attibuted to Evgenia was true or what the context was, but I have to give Evgenia every benefit of the doubt. If said, it was probably just in the heat of the moment. I'll have to say her actions are more important than a few words she MAY have said. Whatever happens going forward, I think in many ways Evgenia was important in Alina's development as a skater and competitor.

AND no matter what was said - at least Evgenia didn't have Alina "whacked" in the knee - so there is that.

First about the last one [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] that is a genius funny comment. I ROFL real hard.

Now about the first one: you are so right, when (and where) it mattered she provided Alina with an important example and was a great inspiration.

I never pass up the chance for a Tonya Harding reference! - which reminds me - I gotta watch DWTS tommorrow :points:

Now i'm afraid that Eteri will kill both Alina and Daniil, especially after that absurd shipping rumors and shouted you look great together, in her own yard (Sambo 70).

I jut want to thank you for keeping this thread positive despite all the scandalous Russian drama happening right now. Only with positivity we can support Alina! Really, I spent hours reading bad stuff and when I finally checked Alina's thread, I felt better and hopeful about the next season.

I hope Alina has great vacation and allows her some ice cream :D

Exactly. It came into my mind earlier, but seeing the development it became even stronger, that she reminds me one friend. She (the friend of mine) has many great traits. She is intelligent, has interresting hobbies, can be very generous and friendly (and honestly, she does not pretend it). When everything is fine it is always pleasure to talk with her. On the other hand, she has other attributes which are making friendship with her very difficult from time to time. She is very touchy, stubborn, proud as peacock and at some things that are important to her she absolutely cannot withstand other opinion and it is nearly impossible to explain to her that you didn't want to hurt her feelings. It can easily turn into quarrel when you discuss with her some topics and sometimes she can consider some things as betrayal. Fortunbately she is not my wife, we would have an italian household

I don't know when it crossed my mind that those two look similar to me but the longer I was interrested in figure skating, the stronger the feeling was.

The thing is, this kind of attitude can play a part in making people's lives hard (aka the people around them). Dictatorship in a small group can help you results for a while, but it can damage people's relationships. This is not the first time it happened. It can happen again and again. At some point people should learn a lesson. What if now parents tell each other: "Don't send you kids to that club, the coach can tear you apart one day. Once your kids get older it's over for them."

At least Alina is safe for now I think.

Talented figure skaters from all over Russia stand in line to Eteri to become a new Alina, also, many parents support such a brutal approach to training,as they believe it develops character

It can also destroy characters. Not everyone will survive that brutal approach. Especially when they're older and their bodies feel the impact. When I was kid I was "socks what are they, I am not cold" and now get older I am "I need socks even during summer".
