Alina Zagitova

I also worry that Eteri is rough on the girls psychologically...Lipnitskaya broke down....Eteri is bad cop

Ohh, again and again, you like old vinyl

From first hands, remember this -

I am asked Alena Kostornaya in the chat - did Eteri "torture"them in training? Maybe already need to rescue poor children? She answered - no, we are all well, in training one rule - to work, if you do not want to - go home. Everything is simple.

I'm not fully getting this argument about Eteri (her team) cannot train seniors. Wasn't it Evgenia in seniors for the last 3 years? She won 2 times worlds and silver in Olympics. I don't think there are a lot of seniors that achieved that in the last couple of years.

....although sometimes hostages bond with their captors

Was there video of her saying that --- maybe she was blinking her eyes in morse code for "TORTURE".

I'm going to hope for the best possible outcome for Alina because I'd rather do that than worry about all the ways things could go wrong. I've seen so many skater's careers derailed by injury, growth, eating disorders, emotional problems, even boot problems. The ice is slippery. Anything can happen. Skating is one of the most heartbreaking sports and you don't always get to write your own script.

The other side of that coin is that things can work out just as often as they fall apart. Hopefully everything that got Alina to where she is will keep her going on the same path. The gold medal can either weigh her down, make her complacent, or lift her up by reminding her what all of her hard work gave her.

I'm not even going to try to predict Alina's future based on the past. In 2014 I never thought Yulia, Adelina and Elena Ilinyk would be where they are now. I also never thought Alyona Savchenko would end up actually getting that OG! Anything can happen. Life goes on and on.

I'm just here hoping for the best for her as a person and a skater.

Well, I don't want to discuss Sugar Coated impressions of Eteri's psychology again :), so just this:

The fact that she added the triple lutz-triple loop late in her Olympic long program showed me a lot. With the exception of Evgenia, not too many skaters can do that successfully.

Even with her 3 falls at Worlds - she never gave up on attempting any jumps. Who knows what really happened that day to cause that performance.

Even if Alina never has the consistency that Evgenia has shown the last 2+ years - that is OK.

Who really other than Michelle Kwan (and maybe Yuna Kim?) has ever been as consistent (performance AND results) as Evgenia?

Exactly. Just compare it to Gabby Daleman's free skate at the olympics. When she started to fall, she wasn't able to maintain the program's layout, she simplified jumps etc. Alina struggled but jumped everything as was intended no matter the falls. She fought For her it was pretty unexpected as she never had bigger problems with DQ. When I saw it, it appeared to me she was not so focused as usually (even in short program). She later said that before skating she suddenly fell in some kind of a dream, as if she even wasn't there and all the the things didn't matter to her or something like that.
Well, years ago I had some detailed psychological examination (due to desired profession) and the psychologist told me after that that I according to results I have some short moments when I somehow loose concentration on the tasks and that is not that I would stop it but continue slightly off guard. That time I argued with her but later I had to admit that I'm aware of it (that's why I e. g. don't like driving cars).
Maybe what happened to Alina was something similar, strenghtened by some lack of motivation (most challenging competitor is not here and this should be easier that at OG, so I can think on other things, don't need to be so aware...).
But that is only my pure speculation.

I had a similar impression. And I will tell it now, I wanted to tell before but always forgetting. I didn't like the relaxed approach that Eteri had to this competition by bringing her daughter with her. You have two people being close to each other but with different agenda in this trip to Milan. I think she worked as a distraction. Just a thought....

Acutally - Eteri had a gun to her back the whole time

"Just keep smiling and waving - don't even think about trying to escape or the eye-blink thingy you tried at the last competition!"

Ok, this is the end.. no more arguments, you win

I'm not completely sure but I think Diana was present at most competitions abroad where Eteri was with her students. I don't think this was the case.

All and all, we saw Alina skating full Black Swan program, her jumping technique is obviously as perfect as anytime, we saw her doing slalom for japan TV show, so if she would train as usually and don't loose self-confidence, there is nothing to worry.

Agree, we all have bad days, Alina is no exception

Lol its like everyone forgot Medvedeva was a senior the last 3 season. Undefeated for 2 seasons too. I guess Eteri cant coach seniors. Lol! ;)
