Alina Zagitova

I get that she needs to focus on her current jumps for this season, but she’s probably going to need a quad or 3A to remain competitive when the juniors turn senior. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want to train for this. She can do 5 triple jumps in a row, I imagine she has the strength for a 3A if she trained for it. From what I can see of their program they have the training technique down for preparing girls to do more advanced jumps. I could see Eteri not wanting to risk the health of her top skater but that may be to the detriment of Alina’s career. She could easily be surpassed by all three juniors from her own team by the time she is 17.
I don't know about that.

So far only Alexandra Trusova has landed quads in competition, no one has successfully landed a triple axel yet in competition.

There's a big difference between practicing them and actually landing them in competition.

Look for example at Mirai Nagasu - her triple axel in the team competition was HUGE but that was the only time she landed it cleanly in competition last season.

You would think from how well she performed it that one time that she could easily toss them off at every competition.

However - there is a reason why so few ladies have ever landed one - it is off the charts difficult.

Same thing for the quad.

With the changes to scoring system - I think falls and sloppy jumps are going to hurt the score even more.

So I would rather Alina continue to train the jumps and combos she already does and try to take advantage of the +5 GOE scoring change.

Also to see her further develop and expand all aspects of her skating.

Let's put it this way - if the three juniors all fully live up to expectations - Alina ain't gonna be the only one surpassed (ie - EVERYBODY ELSE TOO!!!!)

So many pictures today that it is getting hard to keep track of what has been posted before, so apologies in advance if I'm reposting something that was already signaled by another amazing peep.

A few more pictures of Alina with students and people at her former school in Izhevsk:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BjKcNW1jDDi/ (girl that gave her flowers)
https://www.instagram.com/p/BjKQNRAD-1L/ (little girl and her mom)
https://www.instagram.com/p/BjKmDrwDEm-/ (with teenage girl)
https://www.instagram.com/p/BjLKzldDtE6/?tagged=alinazagitova (with lady outside holding flowers)

I swear every new picture she looks more beautiful than in the last picture. Amazing to see her literally growing up from moment to moment.

It warms my heart to see her getting so much love in her hometown.

:laugh2: "Uh-uh, no way, not even" :rofl2: Just throwing a random "Clueless" quote here because...

The only thing Alina would be less familiar with than Curling is probably the movie "Clueless", oh my long gone, late teen years.

I worry that someday one of these pics will show someone wearing an "obscene" American shirt - without having any idea what it says

I was already a little freaked-out about Alina's shirt with the AK-47 until people started explaining what the meaning was.

.... well, now with the boxing gloves and baseball bat - I'm not so sure again.

Hey at least the baseball bat is not a curling broom.

About the shirt: that’s my recurring question about any tattoo in Japanese kanji, what if it really says, instead of peace, all Americans are stupid.

Yes, good point - it’s a good decision of Alina’s to focus on improving and perfecting and getting her current jumps consistent than chuck in a quad or triple axel and not have them consistent/with bad technique.
Well of course it would be amazing if she did land a quad or 3A [emoji23] but then if she did so this season she might have a hard time landing them or worse could injure herself. I’d rather see her beautiful 3lz+3lo and other triples consistent at the moment [emoji1377]❤️
also my nerves couldn’t take it haha

That is like the BEST news ever!!! After Masaru of course, but I'm so happy she is doing another show in Japan. We will tons of goodies. And it will be wonderful. I'm super happy for her.

Edited to add link to the show's website: http://fs-theice.com/ (Alina's picture is the second to roll on the moving banner, after Shoma)

Edited again to add: this was Mao Asada's annual Ice Show, this year she is not performing in it so they are assembling a type of "The Avengers" cast.

found this pic on TeamZagitova (as usual!).

This is an exciting line up!! I hope we get to see another show broadcast like we got from SOI.

Seeing Alina being so heavily highlighted and promoted with all these amazing cast members in the line up is amazing.

Agreed. Alina needs to continue doing the most technically difficult hghest scoring programs like last season. It works.

I decided not to watch the fantasy on ice 2018 of yuzuru because alina wasn't there so im gonna reserved my money on The Ice 2018.😊

You did great!! Good things come to those who wait, you will see a special show.

Does Alina still have the backloading bonus?

No mention of it on the rules they released. But there is a special proposal that will be voted at the ISU Congress on this (limit backloading bonus to only 4 jumps max out of 7).

New rules also will be voted (new BVs and GOEs) but the fact that ISU published it already leads me to believe that they have confidence those numbers will pass.

Edited to add correct information on what will be voted regarding backloading: Fabio Bianchetti, chair of @ISU_Figure Single & Pair Skating Committee, confirmed to me via email that backloading limit proposal going to ISU Congress in June says no more than 4 of 7 jump passes in 2d half (10% bonus time) of free skate. He said his committee has endorsed it. Tweet from Philip Hersh.

Thank you.

Did the age change?

Not yet but the also have a proposal to vote at the ISU Congress, if it passes it will be implemented.

This is the proposal: URGENT PROPOSAL 5. NETHERLANDS (pg. 2): Starting in the 2020-21 season, for senior ISU Championships and the Winter Olympics, raise the minimum age requirement of participants from 15 to 17 years old prior to the July 1st preceding the events. Reasons: 1) Show mature skaters with well-balanced programs at the ISU Championships and Worlds. 2) Improve image of the sport by encouraging skaters to compete for a longer period of time. 3) Discourage older senior skaters from leaving the sport because they feel they cannot compete with younger skaters with difficult elements. 4) Figure skating currently has the youngest senior age limit of all winter sports. 5) Bring figure skating’s age requirements in line with comparable sports such as gymnastics, which has a senior age limit of 16 for women and 18 for men.

Although I cheer for the Russian ladies skaters, but I think that jumping should not be all in the second half. I think it is reasonable to limit the number of jumps in the second part.
