Alina Zagitova

Alina at what looks like an Airport (looks to be a recent picture too)

Google translate seems to think the woman with her is a “Belieber” a.k.a Justin Bieber fan. If that is an accurate translation we should be thankful for Carmen and that Alina didn’t choose her music without coach approval [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Ok Alina, I forgive you, you are young.

"поклонниц" means "fan", "supporter" or "follower". That's one of the russian words I've learned since I became one :)

Actually, I found this video to be fairly interesting. Not because I like the ... (insert insult) what you-know-who posts but rather because I enjoyed seeing Alinka and Zhenya skate next to each other. And it reminded me once again why comparing them to anyone else at the OG seemed almost impossible. They‘re really in a league of their own.

I‘m not sure whether I‘m allowed to compare them in a fanfest, so if I‘m not, just go ahead and delete my post. Just mind that I‘m a big fan and supporter of both of them, so I‘m not trying to put one of them down, they‘re both amazing and deserved the medals they got.

Zhenya‘s program was divine. She took me on an emotional roller coaster and you could see it wasn‘t faked at all when she burst in tears at the end of her performance. Alina, to me, seemed a bit nervous at the beginning which could be seen especially when she missed the first combo. Kudos that this didn’t faze her and she managed to grow into the program by the end of it and phenomenally made up for the first shaky lutz by adding the loop later and right to the beat of the music! What a fighter!

Alina doesn’t have the strongest interpretation skills and she doesn’t connect as much to the public as Evgenia. Yet!!!! She’ll improve and really, she’s so young, she has time to grow. She seemed a bit more reserved at the beginning, yes, but I felt that about halfway through she only got better and better and more relaxed. The program ended with a bang and seeing her beam in relief was quite the sight. She nailed it! Also, her jumps and spins are clearly better than Zhenya‘s. Her 3lz-3Lo is insane of course but in all the hype we shouldn‘t forget the other jumps who are clearly out of this world. Maybe not the axel but the rest definitely! With Evgenia, I could see the injury. Her jumps seemed more tentative and a bit tighter but seeing as she was skating in pain, I‘m utterly impressed by her managing to pull of 3 clean skates of this quality.

All in all, I‘d say the medals were awarded the right way. Zhenya and Alina are close, though, very close and I think it could really have ended either way. Anyway, I‘m proud at both of them!

Just don‘t look at the YT comments, though, if you don‘t want to be shocked. :laugh2:

lmao i have reported that channel so many times idk how they're still up!

I was watching some Carmen programs on youtube to get ready for Alina skating to it! what is your favorite Carmen ever? :scratch2:

I personally don't like Carmen but since the music was already chosen, i chose to stay positive and trust Daniil. After all, he's done many beautiful programs. I adored Alina's black swan and liked don quixote. People can cry all the want about the 0-7 backloading but the program was made for olympic season to grab the maximum amount of points and it achieved its goal. Daniil is able to create great choreos that can show the skater's personality and emotions, i've loved his programs for Tarakanova. Alina has expressed her wish to show more mature skating, they'll take that into consideration and guide her through growing as a skater.

Personally, I hate Carmen with a passion but at least it‘s Alina skating to it, that‘ll make it a bit more tolerable. I had hoped for something vastly different for her this season but oh well.. Daniil knows what he‘s doing, right?! Or he‘d better know what he‘s doing ‘cause I‘m not going to accept a mediocre program for our Olympic Champion!!! But for now, I‘ve decided to trust. No use in complaining if we haven‘t seen the result yet. Even though I might have the feeling I‘m going to enjoy Carmen more than POTO. I just don‘t know, I can‘t get POTO at all... So, all in all, both of her music choices are really not my cup of tea. But I‘m hoping she‘ll get some great, unique choreography and that it, together with her sublime skating and her lovely personality makes up for the music! :)

And I don‘t get the complaints about backloading anyway. Yeah, balance and stuff but DQ is built up to have all the jumps at the end fitting to the music. It‘s the little details that matter and DQ was full of them. Besides the fact that it was by far the most challenging program of the day. And sure, it was looking more like a junior program but seriously, Alina‘s young, what do people expect her to skate to? I‘d rather take DQ than her weird exhibition any day. :laugh2:

Most opinions are in favor of Alina. When performances are presented next to each other, it becomes harder to negate the truth. :agree:

I agree. It becomes almost impossible to negate the truth that these two Russians are both unbelievable skaters and deserved everything they achieved. :agree:

Please, let's avoid those unnecesary comparisons. Alina and Zhenya are both individuals, they are all different (yeah, Monty Python again :) ), why not just enjoying them both.

(Just replace name Saruman for one youtube channel we do not speak about :) )

Agree. I rewatched the entire competition today, and I enjoied it even more. Alina victory is very well deserved, I don't understand who says the contrary.

It's the most natural human activity to like/dislike other people and to compare them (or with them).
Comparing people and things let us improve, aspire and progress.

It was a joke and of course there is always comparing, otherwise no competitions would ever exist, no better results without examples, without competitons, thats what's give people the desire to do better, to struggle. Per aspera ad astra. I completely agree, I'm not for PC and any other (post)modern utopic concepts how world/society should be handled. I just don't like the way the channel is doing it mostly by completely unfair way. And as it was not fair in other thread(s) to despise Alina or other skater, I think in this particular thread isn't fair to settle similar struggle, just from the other perspective.

Comparisons are fine but in a reasonable way. KK is the definition of totally not reasonable which is why his/her videos are mostly banned over the forums. And comparisons don‘t include the kind of nastiness that occurs in the YT comment sections. Whether it’s about Alina or Evgenia or Adelina doesn‘t matter, it just shouldn‘t happen.

Anyway, this has absolutely nothing to do in here, so let‘s focus on something else, shall we? What kind of costums do you think Alinka will get this season? I‘m hoping for something red again. It just looks amazing on her! Or a more classic, elegant black dress. :luv17: I know she‘ll look amazing whatever she‘s wearing but what‘d you say goes best for our little Carlina*?

*I know I sound like a broken record but Daniil better make that program outstanding! I want unique Carmen-Alina!!

I hate youtube comments....

I have actually replied to nasty comments that go back a few years ---- I know the offending party will never see it - but it makes feel better anyway.

Actually - "comments sections" anywhere on the internet are usually bad (even "respected" sites like NY Times, the major networks, etc....)
