Looks like an unintentional slip-up. . I am a strong beleiver that "us" are all Rossiyane and not just Russkie.

I'm a strong believer that in a healthy society you can say "us" and "them" about ethnicity, religion and whatnot without being perceived with any political implication.

It's a bit disappointing to see that some posters here, some more regular than others, seem to think that believers in religions (and by extension, their respective cultures) exist in a monolith.

Every religion strives towards respecting and spreading monolithic core of worldviews, practices, sacred texts and ethics. That's what religions do.

I clearly said "believers in religions" not simply "religions."

The difference here is important. One is a human being while the other is a set of beliefs. Application and behaviour in day-to-day life is up to a human being.

Now, to reiterate and tie this back to why we're all here: Alina is an excellent role model and public figure for a multitude of reasons. What a fantastic human being!

Good to hear. She needs to be surrounded by nothing but positivity going into this new season cause i think she's gonna be under a lot of pressure being the OGM (congratulations again queen ) and being Eteri's #1 weapon in the senior field. She always sound so mature and level headed. I love this girl. She needs to be protected at all costs.

I really don't see what the big deal is? If she's a Muslim and says she's one, why would there be any issue? I honestly don't get it at all.

For me it was honestly a surprise... I thought she is an Orthodox because she posted some Easter eggs at some point on her Instagram. But maybe she liked them as they were so colourful lol and secondly because her behaviour didn't fit what I knew about Muslims. Now i don't know how the Muslims in Russia behave, what they are allowed to do and what not and that's a matter of curiosity for me.

Okay so I’m going to give my two cents on Alina’s POTO program to maybe try to get this away from religion. Not really sure why it’s such a hot topic, it’s not like her religion affects her skating in any way and she’s not changing for any of you.

So I’m not sure if there’s any knowledge on the song or songs for her short, but I love this song from the musical and really hope she uses it as I think she would look so pretty skating to it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j8kV-Bl6fS8 Idk if they would use a song with words though, it doesn’t seem like they do very often. Do you guys think she will do the popular theme from Phantom? It seems like that might fit her style the better.

i absolutely hate when skaters do programs with lyrics, i know some people love it but it hate it (unless it's an exhibition). I also don't want her to do a popular poto music lol i'm so torn. Hanyu did skate to a popular cut but i absolutely loved it so who knows? maybe Daniil can manage to sell it to us too :think:

I think they’ll go with the more recognizable pieces from Phantom (what isn’t recognizable regarding that play, right). Since she’ll be Christine I think they’ll go with “Music of the night”.

I hope that, too. Carmen is like you said, fierce, sassy and full of fire, much like her previous programs which suited her really well. So I hoped and still do that she‘ll get something a bit more lyrical to show a bit of diversity and that she‘s capable of portraying other things, too.

She’ll be performing POTO at The Ice, staring July 28th, só hopefully we’ll get confirmation on this via tweets and audience reports (fingers crossed for some video snipers too since broadcast is only Sept 1st).

I’m so curious to see both programs.

What I am hoping for is that they use both the usual "fiery" stuff from Carmen BUT also the more lyrical music as well.

Maybe the program can start "sassy" and "flirty", the middle can be "lyrical", and then the last part of the program can be "FIERCE" --- for the difficult jump combos and the final spin sequence.
