Depends on who is making those "horrible reviews". Alina's fans? Honestly, no. Not at all. There are many people who like it, after all. So do not speak as there was an army of all FS fans behind you. And even if it was so, I'm absolutely against that internet crowd full of many, hmm, people of interrests and tastes (=those who would hate totally anything, they even contradict their own words as I've already written), should decide about anything.

Alot of Alina fans I have seen disliked the pacing as well as structure of the program. Believe me she is my first pick to wish to win GPF and Worlds this season. But I wished Danil will give the program more space to breathe and feel the music. It looks like a program designed to rack points with steps rather than a program designed around the melody or theme of the music. Which is a shame because I thought Alina was a perfect fit for POTO

I agree somewhat with both POV expressed here.

I don't feel the program needs an "overhaul", but I think some things could be "smoothed out" music-wise.

I do agree totally that "the internet" should not be judge & jury. But out of that "tower of babel" there are probably some suggestions & opinions that Daniil values.

I agree that there was no need to bring Michelle Kwan into this. She is a LEGEND and would have excelled in any era of skating.

Think of how we feel when some of the so-called "experts" or "purists" (or just plain nasty people) bash Alina's skating.

Let's play nice and continue to be a set a great example on this forum.

Granted, there are varying opionons here on the construction of this SP.

But that's because we care and want Alina to shine as brightly as she can.

Maybe I should have written the same thing in Alina's FF that I wrote in Shoma's (regarding the debut of a program at an ice show). You have to always remember 3 things:

1) Don't obsess about the costume. It is rare that the skater uses the "for real" costume at an ice show -- a lot of times, simply because the costume is not ready. Or if it is, they really don't want people to see it yet. In fact, in that video where Alina is deciding on what makeup she needs, didn't she already say they haven't chosen the SP or FS costumes.
2) It is highly likely that you are only looking at the framework of the program, not the finished version.
3) They will add bits and pieces of choreography and change things as they polish the program. Another thing, should she really "tip her hand" so to speak and show exactly what her program is? For whatever the reason, a lot of times they like to keep it secret!

She is so talented and was a huge hit at The Ice. I think she's adorable, and I love her versatility. I'm so jealous that she received all those Shiseido products. Lucky girl!

The thing that surprised me (it probably shouldn't have) is that English is the language that most of the skaters use to communicate with each other.

From personal experience, which is a small sample and because of it probably biased, English tends to be the most taught second language at school in foreign countries. Usually this “school taught” English is very basic but allows people to get a grip on it, those who wish to learn it more fully will then go to extra school English as a second language classes.

Because of this most foreign speakers know at least a little bit of English, when you assemble a UN worthy lot of them (like at all international skating events) it stands to reason that English would be the go to common language.

Lucky for the US skaters right?

But I see that, due to the strength of their skaters in the international scene and desirability of their trainers, lots of skaters seem to be able to speak a little Russian too.

Between that and miming Alina should do just fine, this particular ice show was a slam dunk in the friendship making department.

Some of Alina's fans on Instagram are really out of control.
Besides the fact that they are the most insistent shippers and see romance in each human interaction, they started to post comments such as No Alina, no likes, under Nathan Chen's last post with the other skaters. I think it's really embarrassing.

Unfortuantely, the internet and social media really brings out the wackiness in some people.
I don't consider people like this to be real fans --- they are just obsessed with some sort of "ALT-reality" bouncing around in their heads.
That is one reason I am glad that Alina doesn't post a lot of things on her instagram.

I hope that trend continues - even as she gets more famous.

Ah the shipping wars...

If people devoted half that energy to saving the environment and working for the greater good we would have a perfect world.

I can only hope that, as kids of the social media craze age, Alina and the others are savvy enough not to read this or bother themselves with it.

Our Alinka is a strong girl...and she got over more difficult moments/rumors than these. I am still amazed by how mature and graceful she has always behaved and I'm sure she won't bother herself with these or at least she'll make fun of them and take care of what really matters...like Masaru, wining every competition she takes part in, and things like that

After reading so many opinions about her POTO..I came to a conclusion: that her team obtained exactly what they wanted. Like every piece of art: for it to be memorable, it needs to be either loved, or hated. When everyone loves it, it's probably a problem with it. And it's exactly the case here: people are either lovers, or haters, but everyone speaks about her program, everyone knows it and probably will remember it. Controversy is not bad, on the contrary. And on top of that, it's a program that can win competitions. Performed correctly, it will bring Alinka many wins. Just seeing that 3F..for me it's an example of +5GOE jump

I watched it like what, ten times, I never found myself scrolling the youtube bar further down. Which I do a lot of times, just to go to a moment I like to watch the most , in many other programs.

Martin, whom you probably know as an author of A Song of Ice and Fire. he was surprised that so amny people there were able to speak with him in english at least on the necessary level, thät he said on the official opening:

"Human, who knows two languages, is bilingual. Human, who knows three languages is trilingual. Human, who knows only one language, is American."

(Of course it's not a rule and in my country still many people, incl. young ones, can't speak english - or any other language - at least on basic level, but we applauded him loudly )

You’ve met George R.R. Martin !?! Consider me super impressed. I’m a huge fan of his.

And he is right too, sadly not many Americans learn a foreign language, getting by in English alone probably plays a large part in this.

Languages are like chocolate to me, the more the merrier, speaking more than one is a huge asset. I’m happy to see Alina is interested in learning a new one, maybe even more than one, that would be super cool.

Alina is absolutely gorgeous here and program is very interesting (I had a feeling that it lasts no longer than 30 sec, probably I was charmed with Alina ).
