Alina Zagitova

Another interesting perspective of the program, at least to me. It feels short, the time is passing by quickly. I left with the impression, "oh no I wanted more". I watched it like what, ten times, I never found myself scrolling the youtube bar further down. Which I do a lot of times, just to go to a moment I like to watch the most , in many other programs.

It’s funny that this seems to be a common impression. It doesn’t even feel a minute and a half long. At first I thought it was only because I was her fan.

What’s happening is the program is so busy and everywhere that it passes by like a bout of thunderstorm. At least it will never be boring! With a extravagant dress to go with it, i think it could be a dazzling one ;)

I felt the same. I had a moment of wishing it was her long program!

You’ve met George R.R. Martin !?! Consider me super impressed. I’m a huge fan of his.

And he is right too, sadly not many Americans learn a foreign language, getting by in English alone probably plays a large part in this.

Languages are like chocolate to me, the more the merrier, speaking more than one is a huge asset. I’m happy to see Alina is interested in learning a new one, maybe even more than one, that would be super cool.

:otopic: Unfortunately I can't say much about this meeting, it is so long ago (just that he wasn't so fat that time ), but because of this meeting I started to read ASOIAF. I didn't know Martin till that time (although retroactively I found out that some TV series episodes I already knew were written by him or inspired by his stories, like The Outer Limits).

And to tell a secret, he inspired me in one more thing, I started to write, too. It wasn't my idea orginally. We have czech fan forum of ASOIAF and several years ago we started fan-fiction stories competitions. At first I took it just as fun, but very soon I found pleasure in that. I wrote first story, which had surprisingly good success among other fans so I decided to write five more consecutive short stories (well, short, some of them had more than 90 pages). But fan-fiction soon wasn't enough for me (and, after all, you are in someone other's garden, even when I tried to write as independent story as possible), so I started to create my own fantasy world. So far I've written several short stories just for my friends, but now I'm writing something big (I'm still hesitating to call it novel :) ) and I've already written more than 800 pages (now it's nearly 3 years of work - thinking, writing, corrections). I'm finishing (I estimate about 100 pages more) and after that I will probably have to collect a courage to adress a publisher... (Some friends who read parts of it and helped me so far with their opinions, advices etc. are encouraging me, that it is good, but those are friends :) ).

Unfortuantely, the internet and social media really brings out the wackiness in some people.
I don't consider people like this to be real fans --- they are just obsessed with some sort of "ALT-reality" bouncing around in their heads.
That is one reason I am glad that Alina doesn't post a lot of things on her instagram.

I hope that trend continues - even as she gets more famous.

To put a little perspective on things, it was 5 comments out of 227. One clarified that she was kidding about the 'like' thing, that she loved Nathan, after another poster called her out on her comment. I will never argue that the internet in general, and shipping communities in particular, aren't chock full of crazy, but sometimes it's just kids being kids and having fun not meaning any harm.

Hopefully no one is really bothered by any of it.

Not sure how accurate this is, but I tried to translate the Japanese subtitle and it says "So slowly"

Hi , are you referring to that particular moment on a video? if "yes", Alina said "bon appetite" and after that " I had good teacher". (they like sushi she made :) )

Hello everyone,

Have any of you seen video of "Alina vs. Shoma jump competition"? I saw pictures in Instagram, they dressed up funny, it must be so exciting!

I am in awe of you!! Writing is such a great gift to have, the ability to create characters and whole worlds around them.

I read tons of fanfics on ASOFAI, huge fan of the books and (unusually it seems) also of the series.

I wish you luck on getting it published, writing deserves an audience and really comes alive from it.

Pulling it back to Alina, it’s kind of like skating a SP or FS, interactions and feedbacks from audience make it come alive.

does anyone know why this kooola king is being a :dev3:, I guess the name is banned on the GS forum. I'm astonished of this shadowy yt channel, I recommend the forum readers not to be influenced by these vids of the dark side...

Here's a few disjoint thoughts that I'm not sure I even agree with because my opinion changes everytime I watch.

Zagitova's SP is like a movie trailer for a movie you've watched a hundred times before... which tbh, I'd rather watch the trailer than the whole movie again... but then there's Carmen coming up.

I didn't like it the first time I watched it.... and then the next few times I thought much better of it... and then I watched it again this morning and didn't like it... and liked it a little more after watching it a couple times... and now I'm kind of neutral though I think it's not a good vehicle.

First the beginning... One thing I've liked from Eteri is that her senior ladies skaters have usually had conceptually interesting starts to their programs... and this isn't very interesting IMO. Ending isn't very interesting either.

I like how the 3-3 is setup for when there's a dead space in the music and there's potential for a cool landing sounds depending on how the rink is setup for sound.

The music for the spins 1st and last spins is ok but nothing special...

Alina's previous programs allowed her to project onto the judges in a way this program is not going to allow. I think in a few places there needs to be more projection and "selling"(a pro-wrestling term for acting as if a hit has real impact) of the music. The three big moments are the step sequence, the transition into the 2A, and the ina bauer(though I think the generic beginning and ending could be included too). I think a few points it might be nice to focus on posture and intentionally looking up... like after the final jump before the ina bauer... before or right after the 2a Charlotte spiral... sometime in the step sequence.

I kind of like the step sequence and where they are taking her with it... but I think the lighting there put it in the best possible light and I'm a bit skeptical of how it'll look under competition lighting. When I see her do this step sequence I don't want to see the little gearbox in her head turning trying to figure out what move needs to be done next. It's kind of important that the hand movements be seen as coming from her conveying some kind of meaning towards someone and not her just following commands from Eteri or Daniil. She needs to pose a bit in those positions to string along some images.

It's not a huge deal, but I feel if say 15 years ago Plushenko or Sasha Cohen were doing a similar move into a 2A they would project onto the crowd before the charlotte spiral to kind of rev them up.

I like the 2nd spin... but again the show lighting may be making it look good.

I'm afraid the sound effects will seem really cheesy in competition... they're ok for an exhibition.

I don't necessarily think the ina bauer needs to be held longer, but something could be done to make it a more powerful moment. Like using more force in putting the head back and hands down as if they are hitting cymbals. I do like that transition into that last spin.

And yes, tights over the boots needs to go... if you really, really want that look then look into stirrups.

Overall, it's ok but I still can't agree with the decision of using the two biggest warhorses. It's cheap and lazy. Sorry. But I think it would be a mistake to change direction now.

Y’all check this out. Someone has already taken the effort to extract the music from Alina’s program.

And I have to say it sounds pretty good by itself. You could see some thought went into it.

Which leads me to think that some not-so-positive impressions so far may have been caused by Alina’s lack of grasp on the program & the story yet.

Remember last year the black swan program was also scrutinized and posed some question marks, partly due to the fact that Alina was struggling to deliver it confidently early in the season.

But when it all came together at the Olympics, the character became clear and the audience was able to feel the program in a powerful way.

All this to say, I can’t wait to see her compete this program, and watch her peak with it at a major competition. :)

All the best to Alina. Looking forward her Carmen as well!

Geez, such a hoo-ha over Alina’s music. They’re making out that’s it’s the most terrible music ever. Honestly, I don’t see the fuss - apart from the fact that yes, the cuts could be smoother, but Daniil isn’t a professional music editor for goodness’ sake he’s a choreographer and it really doesn’t bother me, as I love the music used. It’s just small imperfections.

Alina skates so beautifully here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gtcqlJerSY and shows off her lines and extensions next to someone like Satoko who is known for them. It makes her POTO choreo so much more unfortunate in comparison, because she can skate softly and beautifully, which is what I hoped POTO would have showcased. But alas...
This x 1,000,000,000

Sometimes I wish Alina had skated in the 6.0 era. She has such a beautiful, natural grace. Very organic - not contrived or "in your face".

In the Russian Ladies thread, someone said about her SP Ina Bauer --- "it looks like she lost her balance". As you can see here, that is not the case.

The girl whose closing spins and ending pose in DQ were so complex and precise ain't gonna lose her balance on an Ina Bauer.

Now, her Ina Bauer is not in Shizuka Arakawa's league (yet), but it is still first rate IMO and needs to be showcased more.
