Alina Zagitova

Haven't read any of the comment yet but I HAVE to relay my story to you guys.
So my big sister is visiting, whom I haven't seen in person for almost 2 years and she was supposed to arrive at approximately the time of Alina's skate. So I told my husband - I do not care, but it is you who opens the door, welcomes her and her husband, and explains why I am glued to my laptop and cannot say hi.

Of course, she arrive right in the middle of Alina's skate. I was firm - I finished watching (god that was scary but I was brave and so was Alina but 1000 times more brave), got the scores and only then I turned around to welcome my sister. :)))

And only now I have the time to finally read all the comments you guys produced and rewatch Alina's skate and have a look at protocols and all that...

(Are we allowed to talk about the competition now? Kaori! My husband had to produce a steady supply of tissues as I was crying like a baby...)

This is a post in the feedback section that details what can and can't be discussed....

You can still discuss skaters during a competition as long as you are not posting scores, talking about GOEs, elements etc. For instance, you can say:

(A) "It's a shame about Xskater's fall. I was really hoping he would do better."

(B) "xskater did better on this short program than at the last one. I'm so happy for her!"

(C) "It's too bad about the mistakes, but hopefully they will do better next time."

This is what is not permitted:

(A) "It's a shame about xskater's fall on the triple Axel, but at least he got high GOEs for the quad. I was really hoping he would do better.

(B) "xskater did better on this short program than at the last one. She scored a level 4 this time on her footwork whereas it was a level 3 last time. I'm so happy for her!"

(C) "It's too bad about the double-footed landing the throw jump, but hopefully they will do better next time."

Until then, we are currently discussing allowing competition chat after each segment. The problem is some folks will abuse this. Keep your eyes out for a PM for upcoming changes.

And yes Kaori !!!! I cried again today, but tears of happiness.

I am a big Alina supporter but after watching the press conferences in Helsinki, I feel that she is a bit snobby?!

I think she is more reserved and shy than Zhenya for instance. But it's not snobbery. She is just not as used to speaking with media as Evgenia. I actually think it's very sweet and endearing. She reminds me more of a Yulia. I would say it's similar when you compare Shoma to Yuzuru (the latter being more savvy with media).

Alina Zagitova won ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Helsinki 2018 with the total score 215.29 points

Alina and snobby? Eurosports guys too said that they heard she‘s a bit... what‘s the word... google translate says “petulant“ sometimes. I don‘t understand where those perceptions are coming from. What did she do at the conference that made you think so? I haven‘t seen it, only a hug between her, Stasya and Kaori which I found adorable.

For me she always seemed like a humble, sweet and really shy girl. She‘s a bit akward sometimes when answering questions she doesn‘t have much time to prepare for but I always found it cute. You can‘t compare her to someone like Zhenya, they have totally different personalities. But well, people have found Yulia to be rude, too and I never did. So that‘s probably why I can‘t see anything snobberish in Alina‘s behavior at all.

Congrats on first GP Gold [emoji966]!

Let's do better in russia and qualify in 1st place [emoji38]

Somehow I don't think "snobby" is a word that would ever apply to Alina.

However I would love to see some footage of "petulant" Alina.

"Eteri - fix my collar ---- NOW!!!!"

She is nothing like that. She's very low-key shy and reserved typical of a Russian girl.

Agreed! She was maybe uncomfortable, shy and slightly awkward, but definitely not snobby! She wld be so sad to read that here esp she has said before she wld never want to get “star-dizzy”.

Some of the qns were repetitive (her height growth etc) and she must be embarassed at all the attention to her personal/body issues and some qns were new, difficult to answer and weird (there was one qn she completely had no clue what was gg on).

Referencing the petulant / snobbish comment: we have plenty of evidence here (and even videos, written accounts and photos) of her being exactly the opposite. She is always kind and considerate, goes above and beyond to great fans, her press conferences and TV show appearances in Japan show us how she is courteous and super sweet.

She was quieter than usual, specially in the SP press conference, and more withdrawn, a little bit tired of some of the questions (like how much she grew, what's the issue with her knee tape, etc, etc). In the first press conference she wasn't elaborating a lot on her answers, just giving short quick answers to the questions. I guess after that SP performance that she was feeling really bad about it and she just wanted to be done with it and be by herself for a bit.

It's hard to be "on" all the time, she is young and she was super frustrated with her performance, the FS didn't push her into a jolt of happiness because it wasn't perfect either. I guess she just wanted to "run to her room", like my teens do, but unlike them she is an Olympic Gold Medalist, one of two big headliners to an event, got first place in both events with her performances and had to be at a press conference right after. Comes with the territory, some days you are better at it, some days you have to dig deep to muddle through, this is only her second year in the spotlight, and with this intensity really her first, she'll get better at it just like she'll get even better at skating.

I give her a billion tons of credit for behaving like she does now, which is way better than most young people would if faced with the same situations.

Alina from the interviews (google translated): “But there are days when I do not want to train at all. At this point, they connect Etheri Georgievna Tuberidze and parents (laughs).”

Lol, it is nice to be reminded that she is still a child and have her “I dun wanna get out of bed” days too!

"Excuse me? That should be a gold medal you're handing out, not an invisible one. Please replace. And Masaru needs a BIGGER owl for a chew toy. She's growing teeth."

That is what petulant zenskate says.

The things I'm going to remember the most about this competition ....

GOOD
Alina/Kaori interactions
The owl (I never knew they made stuffed owls!)
Bewitched getting to see Alina again. (and Yuzuru Hanyu!)

BAD
The foot ad :disapp:
