Alina Zagitova

If you're in the competition threads, please remember to vote for Alina as most likely to win GPF! We're being outnumbered by Rika fans...

I am happy that she is being seen as the "underdog" going into the GPF.

Frankly the way she keeps being "marginalized" in conversations about 2 other skaters at this just finished GP event is nauseating me.

Even the upbeat positivity in this thread can't lighten my mood today.

:console:
Alina will be comforted by her GPF gold medal. Her fans will be comforted by her happiness. At least one of her fans  will also take be comforted by her anti-fans' tears.

For the moment, I am finding comfort in watching TAT explode. Join me? :p

TAT looks like she's at the track with a lot riding on the 2nd race....

OH NO!!!! "Zagitova" the horse just won and spoiled TAT's Trifecta. :drama:

Seriously, I just want Alina to skate her best at GPF and be a happy camper with both her SP & LP.
If she does that and happens to finish 2nd --- nothing wrong with that.

It's the trivialization of all she has accomplished that is getting to me.

Example....
Recent History - someone changes to a 2A-3T. "What a Genius... Such an intelligent competitor!!!!"
(BTW - I agree with this comment 100%)

BUT
Olympics - someone pulls the reins on the first 3Lz-3Lo attempt AND adds it later in the program. "Pffft, she only won because of BACKLOADING!!!!"

Well, at least Scott Hamilton realized how significant that was.

I will be at the final cheering Alina on! I don't see her as the under dog.

I will be happy with 2 skates Alina can be proud of, whether she'll be first or second - that doesn't matter that much.
I'm hoping for gold, of course :). Alina thrives on good competition!

Wait, what? Since when is the highest ranked skater entering the GPF considered as the underdog? I mean, I love both Alina and Rika so I wouldn‘t mind any of them winning but they each have a good shot at getting the gold. It will depend on who‘s cleanest that day and imo, we know that Alina thrives under good competition, not crumbles. I think she‘ll do great and whether or not she‘ll get gold in the end isn’t as important. Only that she has performances she can be proud of. But if she is clean, I can definitely see her taking away the gold.

(sorry zenskate and EdRoz!) this is a very good interview with Zhenya, where (amongst other things) she talks about Alina
https://rsport.ria.ru/interview/20181126/1146551287.html

I have no conflict with Alina. I said million times that I saw how hard she worked. I've never seen a person working so hard. It was difficult time, it was a lot of work, which took our resources, nerves, health. For both of us. I deeply respect her as an athlete, as after such difficult Olympic year she maintains her status, and it is worth a lot. I just imagine that she works twice as hard now, and it is very difficult, to work harder than Alina did in the Olympic year.

not really.
And please, could you all just stop bringing Evgenia here? It's Alina's fanfest. Not Evgenia's.

As I like and respect both Zhenya and Alina very much, this was a very good read for me. The media tried very hard to create huge drama between them so it’s nice that Zhenya finally clarifies that not everything was as it might have seemed.

I also don‘t consider it disrespectful to bring up Zhenya in Alina‘s fanfest as long as the topic is clearly related to the latter. There don’t have to be huge discussions and we can move on as soon as people in here want but simply sharing an interview isn’t wrong at all. They are former training mates after all and were together at the Olympics. As a fan of both of them it honestly deeply annoys me that there always has to be made such a controversy.

I've said this possibly a 100 times but I'll say it a 100 more if needed: I love Alina, she is the best skater out there, has the full package and works hard to improve her already awesome skating tech and gain new skills and elements, my love for her is not tied to results or to getting 1st place at everything. She can get 1st place at everything and in my opinion should get it but that doesn't mean that when she doesn't (WC 2018) she loses value to me.

Her value and the amount of great that she is now is not tied to results.

My only continuing wish for her is that she is happy and leaves the ice after each skate happy with how she performed and feeling that she gave it her all in that moment. She is perfect just the way she is, showing her hard work, her amazing personality and her shinning beauty.

I find it a little (ok, a lot) funny that it seems it would take the figure skating equivalent of a full nuclear arsenal to eventually win something from her (from a clean her). That is the biggest compliment of all. It is Alina that is truly pushing the technical development of figure skating. She is so perfect in what she does that it would take people doing stuff she doesn't do, to the max number possible, to have a change of eventually surpassing her. And I say eventually because that has yet to happen, maybe it won't even happen this season, maybe it won't even happen the next, no one knows the future. And I don't care if that "imagined by others future" comes, my love for Alina is unconditional and will remain just as strong because I simply love to watch her skate in a way that can't be matched by watching any other person's skate (no matter how good that other skater is).

My goal for her this season was to make it to the GP Final, the EC and the WC. That she achieved the first goal undefeated is just the cherry on top. I know everybody loves a winner but I love Alina, her placement is not relevant to the amount of this love. I love seeing her go out there and do her thing, because her thing is a symphony of beauty, coming from the legs, arms and feet of a 16 year old it just amazes me even more. That she can move me so much with her performances at 16 makes me dream of what her performances will be like when she is 23, 26, 31. I want her to skate on 10.000 Ice Shows so I can watch her for life. Did I tell you that I get goosebumps every time I watch her skate? I'm sure I did, but I'll tell you again, I get them every single time.

She won her individual GPs by a total of 17,72 (Helsinki) and 24,94 (Rostelecom) points above the Silver skater's totals.
Others: Oh but this, oh but that.
Me: Don't care, she could have coasted, she could've thought, "oh that's where the field is at here, I'll just do the bare minimum". But Alina is not the "I'll just coast", the "I'll just do enough" skater, she is the "I'll do my best in this moment skater". Always.

And that is why I love her, not because she wins it all.

Have a great GP Final Alina, have fun!!! Be happy!!! Because I already am.

:agree:
No need to say sorry, I'm fine with posts about Evgenia if they relate to Alina. The last time Zhenya came up, it was right after GP France, other threads were exploding, and I was worried ours would follow suit for the wrong reasons.

Your long posts are always beautiful, and this was no exception. :)

RusNats 2017 after her FS came up and the announcer said she was in second: the way Alina and her coaches all lit up, you'd think she'd just won the Olympics. Dudakov had the biggest smile I've ever seen him wear in K&C.
Here is the video in case you want to see happy Alina for yourself:
https://youtu.be/cDyWdVlyQj8?t=3297

I want to see Alina like that in every K&C, regardless of her scores or placement. But expectations grow. The junior who didn't think she would place second at RusNats became the Olympic champion. I just can't imagine Alina being that excited about anything less than a WR breaking, gold medal earning skate ever again.

So while I agree with the essence of your post, I'm still going to root for Alina to beat the stuffing out of every competition, ever. (Fine, fine, I admit, expecting Alina to skate until the end of time is unrealistic expectation,)

I mean, we all know how hardworking this girl is, everything she has been through... but Zhenya’s words about Alina still amazes me.
Zhenya is two time world champion, and very hardworking too and she is saying basically that she doesn’t know anybody that is so hardworking, determined as Alina is.
And she wasn’t always like that. She learned how to work for herself and she improved her own methods.
I just wish we could see in a movie someday about Alina’s Olympic year and see how hard she worked and how exactly was her training process during the transition to being a junior fighting for a spot at the GPF to a Olympic champion at 15.

We still need good photographers and their beautiful pictures

Speaking of inspiration, I’ll take this beautiful picture as cue to talk about something else Alina does that amazes me.

Her off ice and on ice warm ups.

Alina’s warm up routine is unique and so beautiful it could be counted as a performance. I was going to say a Ballet then I remembered lesnar001’s comment about her friend seeing Alina warm up last year in her tutu “oh it’s like a ballet” and then she started hitting her thighs [emoji23]

I’ve seen no other skater warm up like she does, she has a whole routine with it that keeps evolving to include more elements. Like now the always goes the full length of the rink doing turns and hops in one foot, then switches over and does it with the other foot. Queen of one foot skating.

She’s the only one in constant motion by the gates, stretching, jumping, snapping her arms, and looking eagerly at the ice like a horse ready to jump the gate (Zagitova the horse couldn’t have a better name).

Thank you to all the fancams that allow us to see Alina’s warm ups in their full glory.

That’s the Alina we all want to see for sure!!

Awesome new post

Beautifully said, my friend. :luv17:

I just want to see her always happy, always enjoying what she's doing. And the fact that she's seen now as "the underdog" in this final is laughable  Yes sure, the skater who dominated last season, the reigning Olympic Champion, who started the new season so strong by winning every single competition she took part in, ambitious and determined, is the underdog. I like the new-coming skaters, but they still need to prove themselves under this huge competition pressure. Alina already did it. And more than once.

But sure, if others (under huge subjectivity) want to say that she's the underdog, that's just fine. She was always seen like this, and this wrong judgment was like a pedestal for her. She climbed on top of it and conquered the world from here. :luv17:
