Oh, Alina

I was so nervous when she started, and I saw the tension for Sergey and Daniil, and even a little bit in our fierce Carmen-gitova herself. But it didn't worry me, because our Alina is a fierce fighter. I still saw the fight in her today, even in her worst skate of the season. I saw her fighting for her -3T combo as soon as she didn't do her Charlotte. I saw her fighting when she added a second combo on the flip. But I also saw her fighting when she left off the -3Lo on the second 3Lz and didn't try to do a -3T combo on her second 3F. Because right then, I saw how much she's grown. She knows herself enough to know when she would've made her situation worse. She knew she would've missed the -3Lo and the -3T had she tried them, and I'm so proud of her for growing into those realizations. It takes a strong and mature person to realize such things.
I know she's upset with herself, and she has a right to be. I know she didn't come into Saransk expecting to leave in fifth, nor should she have. But at the end of the day, what's done is done. Alina has been in this position before, and in fact earned the same place at Worlds last year. And we saw what came out of that - a strong Alina ready to fight. Through the tears, through the pain, she has accomplished so much and learned so much that no one could begrudge her had she stopped skating. But that's not our Alina. She's naturally a fighter and wants it so much. That's why I'm so confident in her, even more so now, if anyone could believe it - because I know that at her next competition, Alina will come out ready to
absolutely slay. And I know that she will.
Alina learned many lessons today - how to cope with the pressure of disappointment, how to cope with the panic of missed combinations and errors. She stayed strong, though. She got level 4s on all her elements and still skated beautifully in spite of her errors. And just as we know that she is not over with one disappointment, so does the Russian Federation. Despite all of her errors, she was still the second eligible senior, so she will be on the European and World team, and would've been even if she had been the third senior, because of her many accomplishments.
Alina doesn't stop after setbacks. We've seen it time and time again - when she would place lowly in small competitions, when she broke her arm, when she broke her leg, when she missed at Worlds last year. And I know that this time will be no different. So good luck, Alina, because I - and all of your fans - are cheering for you and believe in you so much! :luv17:
