Alina Zagitova

Bad days happen, whatever the reason. She's been through this before and come back. It's one bad day, not a series of bad days, so I don't think it signifies anything is falling apart. And her score is not so bad, she still got all level 4s! Let's hope for the best!

We can be absolutely sure that, despite her disappointment, Alina will be filled with happiness and pride at the accomplishment of her three tiny team-mates, Anna, Alexandra and Alena. In the absence of a podium place for herself, this is a heart-warming result for her to celebrate.

:ghug:

As Alina continues to grow physically it will be harder for her to compete with her tiny teammates who are under 5 feet tall. Alina has to bring her A game against them.

I am hoping Alina can solidify her free program the rest of the season. She has to.

All level 4's - Alina is still batting 1000 in this category!

So sad for Alina. She looked like in pain during the skate. There was some rumor about her being injured right before the nationals, then she showed up and killed those rumors. Hope that there was no injury that got worsened during the skate today.

What bothers me is that spiral, she almost fell on it, and it was always wobbly in every practice I've seen, even at GPF. Is it really necessary? Can't she just lift her leg without holding the blade? It's not that pretty to see even when she nails it :scratch2:

Its going to be a long train ride back to Moscow. I hope Alina has Diana with her again.

Was this poor FS similar to worlds when 1 mistake became 2 and then 3?

I'm sad for Alina today, but I am confident that she will be back stronger than ever! Sending lots of love to her.

Also, reading comments about her 'being done' or her 'technique falling apart' disappoints me. I feel like everyone, fans or not, should admire athletes for who they are and not for the results they are getting or the points they score. Her just being there, the way she carries herself and handles hardships gives me enough inspiration for a lifetime ❤️

Welcome.

I agree with you entirely.

I think the team will review it and weight the options. It's the second time they have revised the choreo seq. I like the longer Ina Bauer in the first part, but I do think she could do a long arabesque-type spiral instead of a biellman. Or maybe she'll keep it and practice it to perfection by next competition. We'll see.

Oh, Alina :( I was so nervous when she started, and I saw the tension for Sergey and Daniil, and even a little bit in our fierce Carmen-gitova herself. But it didn't worry me, because our Alina is a fierce fighter. I still saw the fight in her today, even in her worst skate of the season. I saw her fighting for her -3T combo as soon as she didn't do her Charlotte. I saw her fighting when she added a second combo on the flip. But I also saw her fighting when she left off the -3Lo on the second 3Lz and didn't try to do a -3T combo on her second 3F. Because right then, I saw how much she's grown. She knows herself enough to know when she would've made her situation worse. She knew she would've missed the -3Lo and the -3T had she tried them, and I'm so proud of her for growing into those realizations. It takes a strong and mature person to realize such things.

I know she's upset with herself, and she has a right to be. I know she didn't come into Saransk expecting to leave in fifth, nor should she have. But at the end of the day, what's done is done. Alina has been in this position before, and in fact earned the same place at Worlds last year. And we saw what came out of that - a strong Alina ready to fight. Through the tears, through the pain, she has accomplished so much and learned so much that no one could begrudge her had she stopped skating. But that's not our Alina. She's naturally a fighter and wants it so much. That's why I'm so confident in her, even more so now, if anyone could believe it - because I know that at her next competition, Alina will come out ready to absolutely slay. And I know that she will.

Alina learned many lessons today - how to cope with the pressure of disappointment, how to cope with the panic of missed combinations and errors. She stayed strong, though. She got level 4s on all her elements and still skated beautifully in spite of her errors. And just as we know that she is not over with one disappointment, so does the Russian Federation. Despite all of her errors, she was still the second eligible senior, so she will be on the European and World team, and would've been even if she had been the third senior, because of her many accomplishments.

Alina doesn't stop after setbacks. We've seen it time and time again - when she would place lowly in small competitions, when she broke her arm, when she broke her leg, when she missed at Worlds last year. And I know that this time will be no different. So good luck, Alina, because I - and all of your fans - are cheering for you and believe in you so much! :luv17:

And, Alina will be performing at the Gala tomorrow

You don't need to prove anything.
I want you safe and sound for the rest of the season.

Thank you, Spirals for Miles, for your beautiful post! That's exactly what we need today.
Alina kept her cool. She will come stronger from that experience.

Indeed we the fans are disappointed and she must be too, but fortunately, just like most of you here, I don't see any tragedy. Actually, if something was supposed to go wrong, be it at the Nationals and not at the EC or the Worlds. Every failure gives a chance to learn a lot of lessons. I hope she and her team will be able to figure out what the problem was today and we'll see a fierce and confident Alina go for rewinning the European Champion's title and winning the Worlds. :)

Alina,

You never walk alone, we walk with you, we cheer for you, we love and admire you after every single performance you give.

You are a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, friend, team mate and also an athlete beloved by millions that follow (and are inspired) by the way you carry yourself at such a young age.

You captured our hearts because every performance you give comes from your heart, you put 110% of yourself into every single element in your skates.

What makes you great is not how high you have risen already, you will achieve much more in your young career, it is how much personal growth you have showed to all of us in this less than three years on the Senior Circuit. It is in how you take in your many victories and your eventual defeats.

This is your first off podium finish of this season and I can say with total honesty that this track record is amazing. No matter where you land on a scoreboard, you are allways a champion, because you always show up and you fight hard.

Scores and placements are reflections of a moment, your heart and your amazing accomplishments are a reflection of the great life you are building for yourself and that we are lucky enough to be invited to witness.
