Alina Zagitova

Alina,

You never walk alone, we walk with you, we cheer for you, we love and admire you after every single performance you give.

You are a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, friend, team mate and also an athlete beloved by millions that follow (and are inspired) by the way you carry yourself at such a young age.

You captured our hearts because every performance you give comes from your heart, you put 110% of yourself into every single element in your skates.

What makes you great is not how high you have risen already, you will achieve much more in your young career, it is how much personal growth you have showed to all of us in this less than three years on the Senior Circuit. It is in how you take in your many victories and your eventual defeats.

This is your first off podium finish of this season and I can say with total honesty that this track record is amazing. No matter where you land on a scoreboard, you are allways a champion, because you always show up and you fight hard.

Scores and placements are reflections of a moment, your heart and your amazing accomplishments are a reflection of the great life you are building for yourself and that we are lucky enough to be invited to witness.

(Alina leaving the arena tonight)

That picture hurts. All alone.

She knows when she's facing Alena and quad or 3a girls she needs to be in the 230's and it puts a lot of pressure on her.

I didn’t see her free skate yet (and probably I’ll never see it, just like I’ve never seen the World’s FS again), just looking at the comments and the protocols was enough to make me sad. I hope Alina finds strength and happiness in her family this Christmas, she deserves an year end break. It was a big and tough year for her and I know she’s proud of what she has done until here.

By the way, I remember how we were looking forward to the beginning of the season. Now I must say I'm looking forward to the offseason
More speculations but less fan wars :agree:

Alina with Danil and Eteri just before her FS

Alina made several jumps that were OK. Just after one 3Lz she had some weird expression in her face, maybe pain. But definitely technique is not the issue here. She said in friday that she needed some time before her body startet to listen or something like that. So I wonder that she nees quite a lot of times for warming, stretching and this.

Hello everyone.
Like all of you, I am a little sad about today. I could not finish watching the FP. This was not the results we were expecting. I know Alina must feel so upset too :(
I am also very disappointed, but NOT with Alina. Never with Alina! I am disappointed with all the coach potatoes who post horrible inconsiderate comments on youtube, instagram, or others. It must be so easy to hide and criticize from behind a keyboard. This girl has achieved more than 95% of people have.
This was ONE ugly competition, and this can (and does) happen to anyone! And in no way does this take away from the fact that she is awesome and beautiful as a skater. This girl has shown and keeps showing us how amazing she can be, and she still has so much room to keep improving. She´s only 16 years old! This is a sport after all, and this is one competition, not a tragedy. And it´s such an unprecictable one... Just look at Anna... at the JGPF she must have been feeling like Alina must be feeling now... and look at her today. The most important thing is health.

What I love about Alina is how hard she works and how she has faced her difficulties, many times with little support. And for that, she will always have my love and support. I know her team will help her improve the things that need to be improved and I hope they help her cope with the nerves and all the pressure she´s under. She is a human after all!

I hope she has a well deserved rest after this, and that she enjoys the holidays with her family and some nice cuddles with Masaru (and maybe Iriska, who does not seem like a very cuddly cat lol). Looking forward to the gala performance! We believe in you Alina!

I just watched Alina's performance, and my heart is literally broken. Not because of falls or errors, but because I could tell that our sweet Alina was in pain, or anyway something physical is clearly bothering her. She grew a lot, is still growing, and all those tapes around her legs, everything indicates about how hard it is for our girl during this period of time.

Yes, there were flaws, but man, I just have to underline this: she sold this performance till the end, her Carmen was maybe more believable than ever. Level 4s on everything, still very expressive, Carmengitova was smiling today even more flirty and beautiful. Even if she makes mistakes, it can no longer affect her performance like in the past, and this shows just how much she evolved. She is there to do her best, every single day, to perform and entartain all those people who are watching her. Yes, this was her best today, and I am grateful that I was able to watch her again.

This is sport, every athlete makes mistakes, no one is unbeatable. And Alina....this girl is fierce, she is something different! She will be even more determined and ambitious, and she is going for the EC and WC titles. I just want her to be healthy and enjoy every single moment of her career, because she is an unbelievable athlete. It does not matter what will happen, because I know I will always defend and love this girl with every drop of power that I have. Because she deserves it, because she is a champion and the kindest soul I have ever seen.

This is a tweet from Jackie Wong....

Another thing that’s important to note today - Alina Zagitova had a bad day. She’s been dealing with nerves and it got to her after her opening lutz. To signal this as career-ending or a failure is over the top. Here’s to her regrouping and finding her way again. She’s a fighter.

Whatever criticisms people want to throw her way....
You can never and I mean NEVER take this away from her....

She IS a fighter.

And this was a very nice response by someone to Jackie Wong's tweet....

Absolutely!! Alina Zagitova is a joy ~ she's a champion, and she's growing up in front of the world...It's a ton of pressure, and she carries herself with grace and courage....always. We love you, Alina Happy Holidays to all!!

Yes - this season she is definitely under a microscope.
There is no doubt about that.

Even if I was not a fan, I would be rooting for her to succeed.

But I am a fan, and it upsets me that it seems some want her to fail.
Not because of her, but because they want Eteri to fail.
That is not fair at all.

I don't want to even look at any other responses to Jackie Wong's tweet.
But the fact that he even needed to send that tweet tells the story.

Anxious to see Alina tomorrow at the gala. If girl is not in the mood for jumping, she could just be standing in the middle of the ice tying her hair 17 different ways for three minutes straight and I will still be watching and re-watching until I have memorized the littlest detail of the video.

Another good takeaway from RusNats is that we now have to acknowledge how marvelously consistent Alina has been with the short program, not letting that "not a short program skater" label stick from last year, proving again and again, even under less-than-perfect mental and physical conditions, that she has this program down to the core. She's gone 4 for 5 with that little POTO program of hers (5 for 6 if you want to count that little snippet she did at Japan Open :)) and her understanding of the program becomes more and more sophisticated as time passes, and her artistry increasingly refined. (PCS 38...Justified? --> YES.)

I have faith that she will eventually deliver a clean free as well. She's done it perfectly twice already (and that very early on in the season when she couldn't have been terribly accustomed to the program itself) which means she has it in her, it's just a season-long journey to find it again through hard work and determination - the two qualities Alina has bucketfuls of. And experiences like this I think make her an even more fascinating, interesting skater: she makes mistakes when least expected, but she also shows up without anyone's notice to deliver a "bang" and flips the figure skating world upside down.

If being an Alina fan isn't the most interesting job in the figure skating world, I don't know what is!

Alina is having a hard time defending her title GPF and RS, im crossing my finger at europeans. Alina needs to shake off those nerves and just enjoy skating because she looks so tense and terrified everytime she step on the ice.

I am quite confused seeing all these (supposed to be) junior skaters competing with the senior skaters. I thought this RusNat is for senior skaters. Are these girls now turn into senior? I thought there is a junior RusNat in January according to wiki. Anna is only 14.

Alina did the same thing when she was a junior on the JGP and 14yrs old. She won Silver at senior Nats, Gold at JrNats, and Gold at JWC in the same season.

Hello! It has been a long time since my last post.

Alina is having a hard time because she is injured, the nerves and everything are a consequence. Many of us noticed in the FS practice she was touching her left foot, and the whole week she has had a very rough skating, her warmups have been stressful, she has fell and bombed the jumps and more than one noticed that she had two bandages in her knees and that she was in pain. For me, it was not just a bad day, she is injured and the Rusfed let her compete without no regrets. She is the only one who had nothing to prove at nationals, not this year.

I found this image and is worrying, it is from the GPF when she got hurt with the tv cable https://twitter.com/DrudePrasha00/status/1076617626070237184
(the image speaks for itself)

I know is the fanfest where everything shines and there are rainbows, but i think this is also the best place to point these things out because we care, support and want the best for her.

On the bright side i admire how she fought until the end, she matured and grew up since WC. She is a warrior. I love and admire her so much, i hope someone gives her a big hug from all the fans around the world and tell her to not jump in the gala. An honourable mention to teamzagitova. They were great with all the hearts, an amazing, original and beautiful detail to support Alina <3.

Just want to say that I wish Alina doesn't let this one bad skate affect her. She's a fighter and she's had a great season so far, despite clearly having a hard time with it! Things like this happen. I hate seeing her almost terrified to go on the ice all season long. The pressure on her is a lot to handle and I hope she has enough support around her to pull through. Really wish people would stop being so hard on these skaters and remember that they're people, and very young people at that.

I did not want to see this picture, and I do not want to start speculating about her injury :(

It's scary what athletes can still do when their body is in poor shape. At least she is still able to walk home.

After yesterday, I am even anxious about the gala.

Alina now has a month to prepare for Europeans. I hope she will come back as strong as ever. Last seasons Europeans should be a good memory for her and hopefully will boost her confidence to go out and fight.
