Alina Zagitova

Yes, mistakes, but we saw Alina fought till the last moment, did not meltdown and did not seem somehow crushed. Also, watch her runthru's, I don's see any physical problems, she just has to deal with her head. Still it is valid that Alina can be beaten only by Alina herself. So, praise she is european silver medalist :agree: (and ignore - you know who )

All of this!

Oh no, poor girl! The first fall has heavy for her, I couldn't undergo another world's FS. It just saddens my soul to see her like that.
I bought some roses for her but the security guards didn't let us get close to the rail and she left straight away. Eteri was gone too so I called Daniil and threw there roses at him!
No way Alina was going to leave today without my flowers!

:2thumbs:
Thank you for being our eyes and ears this time, Hello from Brazil.
I hope Alina feels your support, and the support of all her fans, right now.

Long post here

Certainly, I'm upset watching her skate. I'm upset because I know she is capable of so much more than what she put out on the ice today. She had wonderful practice sessions, and even though she did make some errors, she seemed to have really strong jumps. I'm upset because I hate how hard this season is for her. She went from winning everything to having to fight for every jump. Why? We can't know. Certainly it can have to do with her physical growth, and her mental pressure. She's a perfectionist, and I think the more she makes mistakes, the bigger her desire to prove she's not done grows. I'm upset because I can tell just how upset she is. She looks confused. Why can she do it in practice and not competition?

I think what Alina needs is work with a sports psychologist or someone who can help her overcome her own doubts and anxiety. She can clearly hit all the jumps, and she seems comfortable with her coaching team. It's only after poor performances that she seems rattled, and I think it's more with herself than anything. She is putting so much pressure on herself to do well, and there's clearly outside pressure as well (from the internet, from her country, from whomever, etc.) While her technique has needed to change after her growth spurt, it seems to work well for her. Until she goes to competition.

Alina has a fighter's mentality, but eventually too much is too much. There's too much pressure on her to do well, and on top of it she's just 16. The pressure she faces seems to come from all sides:

1. She has to prove that she can skate even though she's grown considerably since last season
2. She has to prove that her Olympic gold medal wasn't a fluke and that she's not a one-time wonder
3. She has to prove that she even deserved her gold medal, by skating similarly throughout this season
4. She has to prove that she deserves her spots, because there are always those who thinks she is incredibly overscored
5. She has to prove herself to her country, where many still think that Evgenia should've won the Olympics. And that's a worldwide mentality - she is also proving herself to the world.
6. She has to keep spots for her country for next year. She has to make sure that Russia has three spots for worlds and Europeans next year
7. She has to prove that she's still a contender, especially in a country like Russia where there is so much depth and even more just waiting in the junior ranks

Obviously all skaters deal with pressure and expectations, but I think it's not unreasonable to think that Alina deals with more than most. And she's still so young that I think it's too much. No doubt she was trying to prove herself today. And it was just too much for her to deal with today.

I hope Alina is able to realize how many people love her for her - not her results or medals. I hope she realizes that she doesn't have to prove her worth to anyone. But most of all, I hope she can be happy with how she does, both in skating and in life.

And this is why I love all of Alina's fans, and her fan accounts (especially TeamZagitova, who is incredible). I'm so glad she got so much support today and even got a huge bear. I hope that made her happy even through her sadness :)

Long post but worth it.

Surprising results at Europeans but I'm not a big fan of hers because of results. I don't know what happened. I hope she can adjust and improve for the world championships. But after Nationals and today both long programs were the problem and I wonder how Alina can fix that.

maybe the pressure is getting to her but at the World Championships she won't have the pressure on her she won't be the favorite. Alina can do the hunting instead of being The Hunted

Heartbreaking to see Alina this way. I hope she takes time to recover. I'm getting really worried that there's an injury they're hiding on top of the mental strain that she's obviously under.

How true.

Her incredible talent, work ethic, humble personality and a lot of other intangibles are why I am a big fan.

I was a fan from the moment I saw her at 2017 Cup of China.
But, I gained so much respect for her with how she has handled the disappointment of 2018 Worlds.

I just want her to be happy with her performances.
Let the results take care of themselves.

Yesterday training spoke for itself and each person chose to see what they want. I watched the wrong approach of her coaching team towards her. She didn't/doesn't deserve to be treated like that. Each time Alina went for feedback she was scolded and the looks and the manners... which obviously derived in Alina to be upset and frustrated.
Thanks to the beautiful audience that tried to cheer her up and brought a smile.
Today skating is the consequence of this attitude towards her and many other things. I hope her parents step up and choose what is better for her, because those training methods are not working on her.
This is Alina's thread so yes i am defending her, not her coaches.

OMG! Team Zagitova just tweeted that Alina confirmed at the press conference she would go to Japan with Masaru!! :luv17:

There is a good Russian proverb- I heard a bell ringing , but didn't know where the sound was coming from..

It means — You don’t know that you’re talking about ..

Under the 200 marks I’m shocked.

Honestly, at this stage it’s not Alina’s fault anymore. Can someone scold Eteri and her click ? They used to yell at Alina but they also need to be scolded. What’s works before doesn’t anymore and Alina is wasting her talent. Eteri and the others have their share of responsibility. I’m so upset, this result is a slap not at Alina but Eteri’s face, they need to change their method with her and stop to ask her to jump and re jump until she’s exhausted before an important competition.

I’m glad she still medaled and she’s smiling but it’s not reflect her true self. I’m so disappointed at Eteri.

This is not a sad post, there is no sad post possible for someone winning a Silver Medal.

She won a Silver Medal.

There are plenty of skaters who skate clean and never win a silver medal. And no, she was not gifted anything, she really is that good, so good that the stuff that works helps make up for the stuff that doesn't work in that moment in time.

ALINA WON A SILVER MEDAL!

Her second Silver Medal this season. Her first Silver Medal this calendar year.

To me she is the only skater I like to watch, the only one I follow, so I'm "all in here" and for my "all in" to work I want Alina to be happy and enjoy herself.

She is super talented and she can work hard, she has been working extra hard since after RusNats, her jump technique has changed and this hard work will pay off.

It payed off in her many career Golds when she came out of left field with no hype at all and swept the Gold all over the place, ending up with the ultimate one (and had one off podium finish).

Now she is sweeping some Golds and some Silvers (with one off podium finish), for a post Olympic year, she is on track to have a relevant season.

I'd say this is a really outstanding feat.

This was a season of adaptation for her: to a new physical condition (she is taller), new rules, new programs, finding new motivation, dealing with public scrutiny, needing to change the way she approached her jumps, doing a bunch of ice shows in her off season (which she and I loved btw).

Adaptation is an on going process, she is in the middle of it, she has talent and she has grit, those two combined will bring her the results she longs for.

Alina we are with you for the journey, for the long run, for the whole ride, it will go up, it will go down, it will swing from side to side, but it will always be amazing as long as you are the one on the driver seat.

Congratulations to our 2019 European Championship Silver Medalist!
