And why always blaming the skaters ? Coaches also have their share of responsibility. They always ask Alina to fix things but maybe their method is also wrong. I saw Alina jumped a lot during her practices until she couldn’t do it and it showed during her performance.
 
I was upset that Alina wasn't able to show us everything she was capable of, and more upset that she feels like she needs to apologize for making mistakes, but I don't blame Alina for it and I don't blame her coaches. Whether or not you like Eteri, I don't think anyone can say that Eteri didn't want Alina to win, or that she didn't try everything she could so that Alina can win.

Alright guys here is my opinion on Zagitova's situation right now. It might be long, so bear with me. Alina is dealing with so much pressure right now that's true, but she said that after Russian Nationals she deleted all social media and the Internet from her life. However, that clearly was not the culprit for Alina's poor performance at Russian Nats, proven today at Euros. I think the problem that no one is addressing is her Free Program itself. Time and time again we have seen Alina clearly struggle with this program, starting at her first 2 grand prix events, and just getting worse and worse throughout the season. And who's fault is this? The COACHING STAFF. How many times do you need to watch your student fail before you realize that you need to modify her program and make it easier for her to do. At the beginning of the season, in an interview, Eteri said that the Russian Federation asked them to make Alina's program easier for her so that she can complete all her jumps. And what did she do? Of course she said no. Eteri and Daniil serisouly need to let go of their smug egos and help their poor student. Carmen is the is the hardest program in the ladies field this year. Alina is clearly struggling with her jumps, and her coaches are clearly doing nothing to alleviate the overload of stress this program brings her.

At the beginning of the season Medvedeva was having similar performances as Alina's recent ones. And what did Evgenia and her coaching staff do? They modified her routines to make her feel more comfortable and confident. Team Tutberidze needs to realize that it is okay to change the disaster of Carmen, when the literal only enjoyable part of it is the step sequence. I really hope this performance was a wake up call for them that if they keep throwing Alina out at competitions with this program and with no help, then she will keep on performing unsuccessfully.

I also pray that Alina goes to the Russian Cup Final in February. She absolutely needs a clean skate before she can compete at Worlds. If she goes to Worlds with Euros as her last competition, I don't think we can really expect much of a different outcome for Alina. :(

It’s not like she didn’t want Alina to win, to me Alina can’t cope anymore with the enormous load of work like before. She was jumping and jumping until she couldn’t do it. Damn, you don’t have to push her to that extend.

It’s also what I think about her coaches, they need to make easier for Alina, sure she’s a great and experienced skater but she reached her limits today.
I don’t think she needs to go to the russian cup, she needs to focus for the world and sometimes to say stop to her coaches. They maybe are her coaches but Alina is their client, she has the right to say no if something is wrong with her training.
 
i don't understand some of these comments about how the coaching team should change their methods or give alina an easier program because she can't handle it. maybe alina herself wants a more difficult program, eteri's juniors don't like doing easier programs, the coaches needed to persuade them to take out quads and difficult combos. what if alina doesn't want to remove her famous 3Lz3lo combo from her programs or do less transitions? just because she's struggling doesn't mean she wants it any easier.

when other skaters consistently fall during competitions theres never this much outrage about how they should be going back to easier programs. most people just give simple comments of encouragement. idk why alina (and eteri skaters in general) should do easier programs when they're struggling

The coaches should change how they approach her mentally first of all. Her run-throughs before Eteri and Daniil yelling at her were much better than after. It is clear that whatever they try to do it is not working on the contrary, reduces her confidence, making her to have doubts. Confidence which is not and never was very high.

Here's what she said:

“I want to say big thank you to my fans and everyone cheering for me here, thank you for your support, it really helps me. I want to apologize for my not very good skating, me being in first 3 is good, being silver medalist is also good coz I might’ve not win any medal at all. So I'm happy with silver medal too but ofc i wanted better skate for myself. i’m gonna repeat myself, I’m very very thankful for all the support, it helps, I didn’t skate as well as i wanted today and I didn’t make people happy but I really hope that my best career moments are in the future, thank you all."

They also asked about red plush bear and it made her laugh “I haven’t seen it yet, i saw something red but ofc I’m gonna take it home, I don’t really have free space left at home tho but i will make it work.”

“After i finished program we started to discuss my mistakes right away and then coaches also told me kind supportive words.”

Japanese reporter asked smth like : “You don’t skate as well as last season, you have troubles with FS the most, what is gonna happen next for you mentally and physically and maybe your dog is the reason (it made Alina laugh). She said “i tried 4 loop, 4 flip but right now my goal is to skate my free program clean, it would make me really happy, my biggest competition is myself. As of my dog being a distraction, no, no, Masary helps me a lot, all my animals do, i love animals so much, how can you ask me if my dog is bad for me? She helps my mental health, we are going to Japan together soon."
 
Sending hugs to Alina. :ghug: She has quite a bit of pressure on her young shoulders. She is a child
of 16 and I worry about her. Figure skating has become a sport for children and it is the
responsibility of the adults around them to take care of them.

The problem is that some people think that Alina or the other girls don't have their will, ambitions, or they are not able to think for themselves. People should remember Sasha, who has to be controlled about the amount of jumps she is doing. That's not about blaming skaters, btw, and the problem is not "too hard program", as Alina is able to go through it pretty easily on trainings and she did it well on comptetitions also. Nebelhorn and Japan Open are maybe too far behind us, but at the GPF she delivered very solid skate, not without mistakes, but still some third best FS of the season. And that's just some 7 weeks ago. Also, if the challenge is before her (Worlds with japanese competitors), the way to deal with it is hardly the easier program.

Alina, in my personal opinion, is determined too much, "I want this program, this jump or other element" etc., like I will show you, critics. Sometimes it is necessary, but maybe she could try it less "going head against the wall". But, really, who am I to give her any advice. She is intelligent and despide being half of my age her life experience is huge. She will definitely use her own mind.

I don't blame Alina at all, because I think it's absolutely normal (and human) not to be able to cope with such enormous pressure, especially at the age of 16. It's not her skating skills and physical condition that stop her performing well at competitions, but her mental condition, that's why she needs professional help with that.
 
Alina did and does the possible and the impossible to stay relevant this season. I dont think she could do something more.
I blame the coaching team for the failures. Really , they broke her spirit just before the free program.
 
She won a silver even on an off day. It’s sad what happened but this is a learning experience. We know what carmen can be from earlier in the season, so I don’t think there’s a need to despair just yet. This was always going to be a difficult season (and maybe that’s why oly champions take a season off) but she’s fighting!

Regarding the sports psychologist comment that it would be better if she silvered, I get that Med was expected to win and pressure on Med if she won wouldn’t be much different and Alina would’ve been like Shoma, expected to do well but not always win, mistakes able to be written off, she allowed to relax a little and not be vilified but that’s not what happened and I Reaaly hope any psychologist she goes to doesn’t say that to her. Because it makes it a little like victim blaming, that she should’ve tried not to win olympics and all would be right in the world if she didn’t win which is horrible.

I really hope that this thread doesn’t turn into an Eteri hate thread. I haven’t been posting for too long here, but I’ve been reading for a while and I always liked how this thread Supports Alina and her team because yes it took the whole team to get Alina from basically unknown 3 seasons back to Champion last season at 15. Say what you may about Eteri wanting Med to win Oly or not but she still gave Alina the tools, program and coaching to Win over her, and now Alina her main senior so I’m sure she’ll try to help her win and for Alina to win I’m sure her knows support n health is important.

Yes mistakes happened but as Alina said a while back “she’s not a robot”. No one is and they’re trying and she’s Not falling apart so let’s support.
