Alina Zagitova

Alina did and does the possible and the impossible to stay relevant this season. I dont think she could do something more.
I blame the coaching team for the failures. Really , they broke her spirit just before the free program.

I don’t think her relevance is in question. She’s not been perfect but her season is faaaaaar from unsuccessful. There is nothing wrong with Silver. You often make not nice comments but now is not the time for that.

Regarding all the make carmen easy outcry, can we please Remember that Alina Wanted Carmen? She wanted to go skate to carmen, she liked her program and to change a program she doesn’t want to would surely upset her. Heck it might actually be worse for her confidence if they make it easier when she doesn’t want to. And if she herself needed it, and wished for it, I think her team would consider it after Russia nationals.

Alina can actually speak for herself and we should not write off the things she says.

she did say in her interview that her coaches had nice words to say after the free program. i don't see any evidence that they're breaking her spirit, alina seems to have a strong mentality contrary to what most people think. just because someone isn't smiling and making jokes after a bad skate doesn't mean they're sensitive and delicate. personally i cry easily but i still consider myself to be pretty confident. all i see is that alina is frustrated with the mistakes and wants to continue working on the issues.

I really hope that this thread doesn’t turn into an Eteri hate thread.

Not while I'm part of it!

Some are gloating over Alina's inevitable ugly breakup with Eteri, so I am going to say it, right now, that will never happen.
They clearly haven't heard of the story of how Alina left Eteri the first time.

Team Tutberidze knows what they are doing. We've all seen Alina's practices, we know she can skate better than she did in the FS. If there is a mental block, they will make changes. Last season, when Alina had problems with her 2A, they changed it, after Alina repeatedly had trouble with it in competition. Why would they change make a program easier if Alina can succeed with a harder one?

As for Russian Cup Final, Alina doesn't need another competition. She doesn't need to prove herself any more than she already has, three golds and two silvers this season. I also hear that EM might go to the Cup Final. The Internet will go crazy over it, and them, if they both compete, and that is the last thing anyone needs.

Seems like Alina and EM will be both competing in the U.S. Championships though, can they make it in time for the free?

How true.

Her incredible talent, work ethic, humble personality and a lot of other intangibles are why I am a big fan.

I was a fan from the moment I saw her at 2017 Cup of China.
But, I gained so much respect for her with how she has handled the disappointment of 2018 Worlds.

I just want her to be happy with her performances.
Let the results take care of themselves.

It's unbelievable what she's done in the last 2 years. But we have to remember she's been going through puberty in the last year or so grown a couple inches put on 5 to 10 pounds everything becomes tougher. Then the icing on the cake is in sports I've noticed it's easier to be the Hunter then The Hunted. Alina did better as the huntress instead of the Hunted and it makes perfect sense.

If she was your average 16 year old Russian girl figure skater having the results she's had this year we would say wow she's had a really great season but she set such a high standard and the pressure is on her and she has to learn how to deal with it. She can do it it will just take time.

Alina will not be the favored at the world championships and that may play to her advantage. A lot of pressure on the top Japanese girls skating at home. Now Sofia will have to deal with some pressure and expectations too and we'll see what that does to her.

Alina is growing and changing and maturing. She's had an up-and-down season. She will learn from this and get better. I don't see a reason to blame anybody. I know who Alina Zagitova blames and that's herself. Alina will go into the World Championships clearly not as the favorite and that just may benefit her. The pressure will be on Rika and Sofia. They will have to learn to handle pressure and expectations of being gold medal favorites and that's not easy. Only Yuna and Zhenya with Eteri perfected handling pressure in recent years over a span of three or four years. It's not easy for a reason.

Yes, something must have gone wrong, but blaming everything on the coaches has run its course. They'll have to talk through everything together though and I think Alina needs an expert, a good sport psychologist, who can help her cope with the pressure, because it's all about that in my opinion.

Eteri gave Alina a chance, in 2015. Three years later, Alina got a Olympic gold medal. :hap10:

Maybe if some people give Eteri a chance, three years later, there will be another Olympic gold medal or two waiting for Alina. :)

Agreed Zen. People are panicking for no reason. She's had an up-and-down season as a 16 year old skater. She will come out of it. It's okay I'm just sorry she's in any emotional pain over this.

By the way this is also why Tara Lipinski went away right after she won an incredible gold medal in 1998 at the Nagano Olympic Games and white Sarah Hughes went away not to long after winning gold in 2002 at the Salt Lake City Olympics. The pressure is hard to deal with and Alina Zagitova is going through that this season along with a significant physical changes she's going through in the last year. Not easy. I cut everybody some slack even the coaches.

This was heartbreaking 🙁

I was very worried at the beginning of the program, but Alina's mistakes this season are not a surprise. The main thing for me - she did not cry on the way out of the ice.
Her tears can hurt my heart.
Not being able to see her in competition or anywhere else can hurt my heart.
Mistakes, silver medal or no medal at all are sports routine. I just sigh and say thanks to her for the performance.

Very beautiful words and you reminded me of something very important. We are blessed to see her competing this season. It was so joyous to watch her win at the early competitions. It may be heartrending to see her struggle but you learn more from your mistakes than you do from your victories. This is part of Alina's journey. I feel lucky to witness it and again very blessed to share it with all of you here in this fan fest.

Thanks for reminding me.

I watched the whole 3 hours tonight.
And not one of those skaters was there.

FAKE NEWS!!!!

BTW - I'm still glad I watched. ;)
It was an exciting competition with 3 breakout stars.

Unfortunately, because of the crazy age restrictions, I guess Alyssa Liu isn't even eligible for Junior Worlds?
A shame, if this is so.

I had eyes on Alina during the whole warm up. At the beginning, she fell on the combination too, but never missed a jump after. Her 3lz+3lo was solid, the 3F was perfect as always and she trained specifically the +3T.
She looked good in practice and in the warm up too, she deserved a clean FS.
For me the worst part wasn't watching the performance, but the face of disappointment with herself. At this moment, you can only clap and cheer (and throw flowers at Daniil), it feels powerless.

And who do you think made it possible for Alina to get this far? We can't know anything about the true nature of the dynamics of the relationships within the team. Jumping to conclusions by watching some video is nonsense...

It worked once, but is not working right now. You can be demanding and strict, without having an abusive attitude, an attitude that doesn't affect the mentality of the skater. Don't try to normalize emotional abuse.
And it is not only one video, there are many, there are also many girls who have gone and told their stories... but someone said i know nothing, so yeah each of us has made the decision of who supports and who does not. Peace.

Yes, to stay relevant: 198 at Europeans and 54 TES. If you think that Alina is happy with this result, you are totally wrong. She had tears in her eyes during all victory ceremony.
If i choose to stay closer to the reality, it doesnt mean I do not make nice comments.

What they say-skaters, coaches, politicians in the interviews, and what really happens in the backstage are most of the time 2 completely different stories.
The evidence is her practice session the day before the competition:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-UN55vDWg8

I dunno.
I wouldn't exactly call that youtube video "evidence" of her team trying to "break her spirit"
It is speculation at best.

And I am for Alina 100%.
If there were any real evidence (not saying that there is) of Eteri not having Alina's best interest's at heart.
I would be supplying the pitchforks and torches myself.

I know there is genuine concern for how Alina is skating now.
I am concerned too.
But I am getting confused here because I cannot manage to parse which comments actually care about Alina, and which are agenda driven because of who her coach is.

Twitter, YouTube comments, FS Boards, Russian media --- it is all too much now.

If anything is breaking Alina's spirit, maybe it was discovering there is a cottage industry on social media counting down the days until she is "done".
There are actually people out there that want her to fail.
Either to "prove" a point about Eteri. Or so they can go around saying "I told you so".

Maybe that's why she is no longer on social media.

Alina is obviously very popular.
She has over 500,000 followers on IG.
Look at the outpouring of support from fans at competitions.

But to be a sensitive 16 year old and see that even a few people actually want you to fail?

Sad.
