Alina Zagitova

More than anything, I think their comments are far beyond what is appropriate for a 16 year old girl, let alone the GOAT and youngest grand slam winner in figure skating history, only the second ever.

They've said she's named after Putin's mistress, said she should retire and be a model, said "she's pretty and has a Lutz Loop but that's it". I believed they've also said she/her program was too sexy like. Hell, such comments are so incredibly sexist and chauvinistic and inappropriate. She's a skater, comment on her bloody skating you morons. Why are they even so fixated about how she LOOKS.

Are they even conscious of the fact they are talking about a teenage girl? Two grown men publicly saying a 16 year old girl has no personality and has nothing more than a pretty face, a good jump combination and a dog. They need to take a long hard look at themselves and what they are doing with their 'voice'. They talk about damage, trauma, abuse to young skaters and then with their next breath do exactly the same thing with their commentary.

What possible satisfaction can you get from doing a public take down on a teenage girl? Does the world really need more of that? If that's your contribution to the world of figure skating how are you changing the culture for the better?

Given their own personalities I'm not surprised they are incapable of appreciating Alina's. That says more about them than it will ever say about her. Again, she's not even 17. Even Katarina Witt became Katarina Witt. There's no telling who Alina will grow up to be. I hope we get even more competitive seasons from her to watch and appreciate her growth as a skater and performer.

Also I don't believe Alina will ever have as little to do in her life as either of them.

Dear Alina Fans,

You really need to follow the rules of Fan Fest's better. Some of you just can not seem to post positively about her and would rather discuss people not liking her. There is a place for that: The Edge. Please stop doing it here. This is your place to praise Alina without having to listen to the negatively of other people. If you drag their vitriol in here then there is no point to this being a fan fest.

To those of you following the rules: Thank you.

To the rest of you: Stop it now. The user who told you to stop giving views and attention to those people who "insult" Alina is correct. What is worse is that you are forcing your fellow Alina fans to wade through it here where they come to praise her.

Alina is leading in the user-voting in Forbes 30 Under 30 for Sports and e-Sports. :hap10:

This is great, I know a lot of Alina fans had problems voting because of technical issues, they apologize for those in the article, but Alina is still leading!

They will publish the final list in June.

This is very good news! I was never able to vote for Alina in this poll. I tried on my laptop, desktop, phone, with firefox, with google chrome and had no luck at all. :( At any rate, I'm glad to know she is leading. :)

These polls often strike me as odd, comparing the most accomplished Alina with the average professional soccer player and an e-sports player? Didn't know that playing console games is even a sport???
I doubt Alina will be really bothered by her 'competitors', perhaps the decoration ceremony is nice with a visage and couture of choice and a chance to meet important/influential people that might help advance Alina in case she wants to start a business career?

30 under 30 she's 20 under 20 too. ;)

Do you guys really think she cares about things like this? Or just take any fanfare or adulation in stride with her low-key lifestyle?

If Alina ever visits the US for a competition or gig, these guys will be first in line to try and meet her personally, they just cannot resist the temptation to suck up to her and brag later about them meeting Alina. They are no better than the attention wh*res on YT like this Yelena Rodina and the other rotten channels from Russia.

I don't know if their blog has any credit with any USA figure skating competition/meet/festival organiser, but I wouldn't be surprised if they use exactly the same YT channel as credentials to

Why are you giving “those” people your views? Don’t share negative videos or articles, they do it for “clicks”, you guys are very naive, you’re literally helping them to thrive on Alina’s popularity
I don't think people here Alina Zagitova fans seek these 2 out. Someone brought their act here in video about Alina and some people clicked on the video to listen to bits of what they said. We all could have lived without it but we're all human beings born to impulses and intrigue and in defending someone very special AZ when needed. That is all.

Now that she has won everything I can't wait to see what Alina brings to her future in the next year or two as far as a possible quad or triple Axel goes. A lot of people think her younger teammates are going to overtake her but I think that's going to be very hard to do next season. Alina will have stopped growing then and will still be able to do the most difficult step sequences in ladies figure skating. She had to deal with a growth spurt in the last year or so and did it very admirably. But once she has puberty 100% out the door watch out! :) Alina will still be at her best while others younger than her we'll be going through puberty and all the issues that come with that for a young lady figure skater.

As I feel a bit responsible, I didn't want to generate any negativity HERE, I just wanted to make some fans go and defend Alina THERE...

On a happier note, I'd like to ask you some questions guys, especially those of you, who are into figure skating sort of professionally. If you had to describe why you think Alina deserves to be called the best senior ladies figure skater at the moment and what makes her skating special, what would you say? I'm asking this because - although I've learnt a lot about figure skating in the last few years - I'm still a fry cry from being an expert and I'd be really intrigued to hear some pros' opinions. :)

I'm going to steal something Kurt Browning said about her last season - "She is one of the few skaters I could watch skate without jumps."

For me she just has some kind of magic.

Kurt Browning said some of the nicest words about Alinas skating that I've ever heard. I think I recalled Dick Button having nice words aout Alina after the Olympics last year.

There is no need to feel bad for that, no harm was caused nor intended.

Why can be Alina called the best? I don't know if I am able to put my feeling for her skating into words. For the very first time I saw her two years ago, it was her LP during junior worlds. It was accidental that time, I was just starting to be interrested by the figure skating, but I was captivated by her skating immediately. That time I still did not understand the sport much, wasn't able to recognize most of the jumps, I knew a few things about technique, yet she interrested me much more than the rest of the starting field. It was the lightness, the expression "I'm enjoying this, I do this just because I can". And this remainde with her ieven during those "hard times". You can say that the medals are just the cherry on the cake, first thing is having good skate she can be proud of. That is her real personality, doing the best she can for fun.

I agree with flanker. Yes, she already became a legend by winning all the important titles by the age of 16, but it is not only about this, it's about how she won them. Remember how she pulled off that 3Lz+3Lo at the Olympics, how she jumped that 3Lo from such a deep landing edge at Worlds. The fight, the difficulties, the determination, the power. I think she is a legend because she has the mental of a champion, she delivers when it matters the most, she always gives her best when she steps on the ice, it doesn't matter it's an Ice Show or EX. This opposition between her humble, caring, kind off-ice personality and the perfectionist, competitive, fierce on-Ice fighter.

And man.. After her first senior year she had a rule imposed, to prevent her from winning, and she still did. A true champion prevails even in times of difficulties.

"Luctor et Emergo" could be her motto.

Your first paragraph was really good but your last paragraph says it all. I'm still upset and disappointed with the international skating union for screwing around with Alina the way they did changing their rules for one skater after they allowed this rule in. I can't help but think it's a conspiracy against you know who the great coach. But the great Alina adjusted and still ended up winning the World Championships.
