Alina's family deserves so much credit and praise for Alina's character. I read this in a comment on Sports.ru -
There was an interview with Anya Shcherbakova and her mother, and there her mother had interesting words - "figure skating is an individual sport, there is no team spirit in it. It is very easy to raise an egoist in such an environment."
I think that Ilnaz Z.'s lifelong involvement in the team sport of hockey as a player and a coach helped save Alina from this. I'm sure Sabina helped too. Nothing like having a little sister to set you straight. Also experiencing her difficult teen years away from her parents and hometown. Her grandmother deserves her own gold medal.
It may have been very lonely sometimes but I feel like it gave her an appreciation for her family and true friends.
