Aline Cojocanu and La Bayadere

<em><strong>For Ballet Enthusiasts:</strong></em>

I went to see La Bayadere last night (such a convoluted story) but I was so impressed with Aline Cojocanu!

Ms Cojocanu is Romanian. She was attending gymnast schnool as a child when some Kiev (Ukraine) talent scouts were looking for students for their ballet school. She was selected, travelled to Kiev, and after two years (at 16) won a medal at the International Ballet Compettions. She was also offered a place in corps de ballet with the British Royal Ballet, but she was indebted to the ballet in Kiev. She did eventually, go to the Royal Ballet and (talk about meteoric rises) she was doing principal roles within a year.

As part of an exchange with ABT, she performed La Bayadere for two performances only. She was a knockout with the audience. I'm hoping ABT nabs her for many performances in the future.

She's a must see, if you can. Aline Cojocanu!! The Y and BC spins - well, she just lifts her leg up there and no hand holding.
