Alissa Czisny

Thanks, Sylvia. That web site was a little hard for me to navigate at first (I'm getting used to it now).

Does "SD" mean "solo dance"? I am intrigued at what the Canasta, Ten Fox, and Westminster might be.

They are compulsory dances (Canasta Tango is a preliminary dance, Ten Fox is a bronze-level foxtrot, and Westminster Waltz is a gold dance), so solo dance is a good guess for what SD represents.

Joe, if you go to Skate America in anticipation of watching Kimmie's "West Side Story" program, you're going to disappointed! ;) (Pssst, check the title of this thread again.)

Side note: One of my all-time favorite "Swan" programs was Yebin Mok's SP in the 2002-03 season.

Thanks for the memories Sylvia. I love Yebin Mok. Fell in love with her skating in 2003 Dallas. She grew so much the next year she never could reproduce it. Bless her heart. I still wear my Yebin pin on my skate jacket lapel. I cried when I saw her swan again.

Alissa at Wyandotte, MI

Good morning !! I worked this weekend at the Wyandotte competition. Alissa did show up both days to skate her Short and her Freeskate. It was a wonderful opportunity for younger skaters and their families to watch an elite athlete 'up close and personal.'

Alissa had a rough warm-up for her Short.....handled very graciously; no scowling or grumbling.....then went out and nailed a BEAUTIFUL Swan program.
(I started to get weepy during her step sequence.....expressive body movement, deep edges, connection with music. Wonderful-wonderful-wonderful.)

The Freeskate on Sunday didn't go as smoothly. Delightful selection of cuts from West Side Story.....major difficulty with jump elements. But again; handled graciously......even coming off the ice and immediately presenting a pleasant and accepting warmth under unhappy circumstances. Outstanding role model for up-and-coming athletes.

Such a grueling, amazing sport !! It demands so much from it's participants....at every level and in every discipline. I applaud each and every skater who finds a way to ride the roller coaster and not go crazy.

Have a great week everybody !!!!! pp

Thanks for the report. I knew that Alissa's Swan SP program would be perfect for her.

Thanks so much for the report.

And welcome to the forum. Hope you like it here. Post often, post long! :)

yeah, thanks ppangle!!!! I am glad she nailed the short, bad warm-up and all. Did you see her working on triple triples? What songs are in the west side story program? What did her dresses look like?

Many thanks for sharing, ppangle!

Czisny scored 62.53 in her short program and 101.61 in her free skate (there was just one other competitor). She was required to be monitored by USFS at a sanctioned competition prior to her Grand Prix events (China and Japan).

Looks like Alissa wore one of her old competition dresses for her SP on Saturday: http://www.sk8stuffmore.com/comp_pic3/wyan07sat/index6.html
and a practice dress to compete on Sunday: http://www.sk8stuffmore.com/comp_pic3/wyan07sun/index13.html

This was just a monitoring session, really. No need to read too much into the scores.

Thanks for the report. Who is this?

Also- it may be only a test skate, but in the case of Alyssa- she's the definition of inconsistent. Certain other skaters tend to get that reputation after one or two slightly botched FS's (or SPs), but she's REALLY a case of hot/cold out there on the ice. Brilliant, or falls apart. Luckily, one of those brilliant moments led her to a nationals medal and a trip to worlds. Did she luck out, or is more good stuff on the way for her? Stay tuned, and I hope it's the latter.

Her "practice" dress actually looked pretty good for West Side Story, but she will have to get somthing white for the Swan. I hope her dresses are finished soon! thanks for the pictures.

If she is going imitate Swan Lake on ice, then I hope she wears black and imitates the evil daughter of Rothbart. A good bravura piece for her to show off her virtuosity!
