All Brian Joubert News!

Other Brian news: he was interviewed for a segment of Eurosport's pre-Olympic Breaking the Ice show - it must have been done before the injury. His episode is currently scheduled to air on December 30th and probably on repeat for a couple of days afterward.

Breaking the Ice

Eurosport gets up close & personal with wintersports stars in Breaking The Ice, a new show featuring 15-minute exclusive interviews with top athletes. The show is a complete departure from the traditional format, with interviewer and athlete doing an out-of-the-ordinary activity together - such as ride a Harley Davidson - in order to "break the ice" before conducting the interview with a greater sense of comradeship.
Breaking The Ice will host prestigious guests this season, such as Aksel Lund Svindal (Norway, Alpine Skiing), Lindsey Vonn (USA, Alpine Skiing), Martin Schmitt (Germany, Ski Jumping) and Brian Joubert (France, Figure Skating). The show will be broadcast around one of the season's key events in which the star participates
British schedule and content by the end of the year:

According to my local Eurosport, show with Joubert will be broadcast in January, just before the European Championship ;)

There was just an interview with Brian on Stade 2 (France2) and they showed footage of his foot w/o bandages.
Though I'm sure it hurts like hell, I have to say it looks much less horrific than previous pictures.
Took a few screen shots: pic1 pic2 pic3 pic4
The way it looks, I think a tough cookie like him (:p) will be back on the ice in no time :agree:

ouch.

No, it's French. But he has been speaking German for a long time, which may account for his rather minor accent while speaking English.

And some people just have heavier accents than others, it often doesn't even mean that these people were lazier while learning the language. E.g. my Mum has a monster German accent while speaking English, but practically none when she speaks French. But her English is actually much better than her French, grammar- and vocabulary-wise.
Isn't Poitiers in western France? There are a lot of Kelts iin that region. They converse with the people of Wales. Brian is more of a Keltic name than French.

It was a shock to know that Brian was injured. But I have confidence that he could overcome everything and do the impossible and compete well at the Olympics. He is a tough guy - one of the reasons that I like him.

Now that Worlds 2012 are in Nice, France, Brian should contemplate to stay in until then.
Brian doesn't like to compete in France, he gets nervous... In the other hand, I can't imagine he'd want to miss this, and he has mentioned staying at least on a limited basis after this season. Assuming he does, next year will be his tenth senior season!

In injury news, Brian is doing well and I have read that he's been telling the French media he'll try to be there for Nationals. That's two and a half weeks from now! I am opposed to this, he doesn't need Nats and why risk it? He should work towards Euros.

Thanks a lot for the screen shots, Tinymavy15. Much appreciated.

I have recovered from the initial shock of Brian's injury. I simply could not post to it before.

I agree with Buttercup and jennylovskt; I wish Brian would skip Nationals. I am sure that his federation will have faith enough in him if he just competes at Euros. Maybe he feels he should give other French skaters a chance to beat him at Nationals, but for once, I wish he would put his body's needs before all else. Please, Brian; do this.

I think he wants to get as many competitive exposure with his new programme as possible in order to feel comfortable with it. But I think going into a competition so shortly after injury (apart from the health aspects) will not do any good for his confidence, as he surely will not be competing at 100%. Maybe Mama Jouby will manage to tie him down.:biggrin:

On the one hand I agree with you, but it's just really hard to keep Brian away from competing. I think that it may be good for Brian to compete once more before Euros, even if technicly his program is slightly easier at nats.

Whoa, can he really be safely ready for French Nats? I hope so. He did just have surgery last week and he said he was seeing bone. Hopefully he'll dial the jumps down if he needs to.

Apparently there was an update on Brian in the print edition of L'Equipe yesterday - I saw references to it on a couple of different forums. The swelling in his foot has gone down and he's feeling better, though still not pain free. And so... Brian was back on the ice Thursday (one week after his surgery!) and Friday, for twenty minutes each time. If I understood correctly, he wasn't trying anything too difficult and took the weekend off.

I hope he won't try to do too much, too fast (or, that if he tries, his coach and his mom will make him stop!)

B, can't say Im suprised he's already back on the ice.. He must feel a terrible itching just sitting at home hearing news of GPF and stuff.. His stubbornness and strong will is well manifested once again.. ;)

The entries for French Nats are listed on the FFSG website. Brian is not listed, which I think is official confirmation that he will not be skating in Marseilles.

I'm relieved that Brian and his team made the right call. Now he can concentrate on his rehab and his training so that he can peak at the right time. :)

Amen to that :) Thanks for the update.

At some point between my last post and now, Brian was added to the entry list for French Nats on the FFSG website. However, considering just a few days ago he said he wasn't yet training 3R, 3Lz, or 3F (and, I assume, no quads), I'm not sure he'll really be there.

Isabelle and Olivier are not on the entry list. So P/B will likely go into Euros as GPF medalists and two-time French national champions, which might help them win a medal even if both D/S teams show up.

ETA: according to a L'Equipe story (Google translation), Brian can also do a 3A now, and possibly 3R? No flip or lutz yet and apparently no quad. He's considering skating at French Nats with a simpler jump layout. Well, we'll see - I guess he knows what he's doing... :)

I admire Brian's tenacity, and I honestly wish for him all the best, because as we all know the absolute best competitions are when everybody skates their best & you win!

The Olympics will not be the same without Brian at 100%, same with Zhenya, Stephane, et al. Thus, my sincere honest hope/wish is that ALL three of these great warriors are fully recovered by the time of the Olympics & can truly show their best! How apropos, especially at the Olympics...

Oiii, can't say Im suprised but I am still not sure if this is right. He definetely seems to want to have more competitive exposure to make sure his confidence is back after the TEB and masters disasters. I felt from the expression on his face throughout NHK, that he still did not feel confident or relaxed enough. The super confident younger Brian now may have been permanently replaced by a more mature and more reserved Brian. Maybe for the better.. ;)

He's still undecided about doing Nats according to this story. It's in French, so run it through whichever translator you like best... :)

Cheers.. It's such a roller coaster now, "shall I go, shall I not go".. I definetely think it's the confidence issue playing tricks with his mind... I think not being able to do thorough run throughs of his LP will be a big problem in Europeans. I hope he won't damage his confidence there..
Btw, I hate these translators for translation from French.. I learned 4 foreign languages, why is the damn French not one of them?:rofl::rofl:
