Anastasiia Gubanova

She has a good chance to win at Golden Spin, so fingers crossed.. :cheer:
I think if she had skated 3 or 4 times last year and had skated 2 or 3 times already this year I would believe that. Let's see what happens. I do not want to see this girl getting the short end of the stick again this time representing the Republic of Georgia. It seems like the opportunity is there for NG to make the European team Olympic games and world team this year and if she can skate like what we saw in Finland then that should happen.

If she can end up skating in 6 or 7 events this season that could really build something for her future where Nastya doesn't have the pressure of knowing if she makes a mistake or 2 it's going to cost her a lot with the fed.
I don't think this girl ever really recovered confidence wise from getting jobbed out of the podium at junior Russian nationals 2018. R and J program was magnificent and the 3 girls that finished ahead of her all fell in the competition while Nastya did not. The handwriting was on the wall for her then. I only wish she had transferred to the Republic of Georgia a couple years ago Because it's super beautiful skater literally wasted a couple years of a career in 2019 and 2020 seasons.

If Kazakova/Reviya are healthy then I think Gubanova might just get a chance to skate short and free programs in the team event. Russia USA Japan and Canada will likely make it and then it’s between Georgia Italy and maybe China for the 5th spot...how wonderful it would be if she got to skate both programs before the individual event, it would boost her chances

I hope so. Nastya needs all the competition she can get after basically being on the shelf for 2 years.

How many teams are in the Olympic team event?

Has Alina U competed this season? Does Anastasia have the inside track at the one lady spot for Georgia in the Olympics in the Olympics Europeans and worlds?

Nastya skates last today at golden spin. I hope the judges come to their senses for all the skaters and as she has a great skate.

She won the gold medal at Golden Spin🥇👏
Hopefully it's something for Nastya to build on. But maybe we shouldn't expect bigger scores from her until next season. I do hope they are very generous with her scores at Georgia Nationals and kind of create a new narrative for Nastya.

This is the first International competition Nastya has ever won as a senior and it's been over five years since she won one as a junior.
Of course this beautiful skater has not had an International Event in three years so it's hard to win them if you ain't skating in them.

Well I was certain about her victory bit it was actually very close and she could have been even third easily. But it's still a very heartwarming feeling to see Nastya skating internationally and to win, of course! :thank:

Ten teams in the Olympic event. The best 10 teams who individually qualify entries into at least 3 disciplines qualify. Usually, we wouldn't know until after the Grand Prix final which of the eligible teams qualify but this time exactly 10 teams fulfilled the criteria so we've known for months that it would be Russia, USA, Canada, Japan, China, Italy, Georgia, Georgia, Czech Republic, Ukraine.

Alina competed three times this season and scored 142, 179, 147. With these scores Gubanova is very likely to go to Euros at least because she has a good chance of earning two spots for Georgia next season. And I would be shocked if she didn't go to Olympics or Worlds too.

Thanks for the info and if Nastya can stay healthy it looks like she will be skating a good amount the rest of the season. The problem is she is coming off coronavirus and issues with her lungs and that really affected her skating at golden spin. She really faded late in both programs which is understandable coming off of covid and limited training.

As for her main competition in Georgia I did not know that Alina competed and that she had scored in the 140s twice. Nastya could get another spot for Georgia at Europeans.

Nastya needs to keep skating to build her lung capacity back up for world-class athlete and to keep getting the rust off her skating or rather practicly not skating for really the past 2 years.

It looks like there won't be a Georgia Nationals because I read online because of the virus that are probably not going to do a national championship. Whaaaaaat? How can you not have a Nationals? If it's because of coronavirus then certainly Europeans is in great jeopardy again and the Olympics are in Jeopardy unless they will be skating in front of An Empty Arena like world's last spring.

Hopefully Nastya can get named to the European team for Georgia and go from there.

Well you never know, that the latest development in the NHL with many positive players, for example. We can just hope the season will continue as planned and we will have opportunity to see Nastya again soon...

The sports leagues in North America are going through a major increase in coronavirus cases and that is puzzling because everybody is vaccinated or almost everybody who plays and works in those leagues. This proves that even vaccinated people can can catch coronavirus and we know they can transfer coronavirus. I guess that's what's happening.

Where is Europeans? Wherever it is maybe they should move it to Sochi before its canceled. Or Tallin if they can't have an International event event in Russia because some weight loss failures because a Russian weightlifter or biathlete took PEDs.

Did they even have the Tallin challenger this year?

If they have Europeans and Anastasia gets in the top 5 or 6 does that mean Georgia will get 2 spots for European's the following season?
I can only assume it works the same way with worlds. I think Georgia will send her over Alina. In 2 of her 3 competitions this season Alina scored in the 140s. Her high score was in the 170s. That's not going to bring Georgia anything at Europeans or worlds. If Nastia can get into form like she had at Finlandia you're looking at her helping the ladies discipline grow in Georgia. I hope she's able to put coronavirus behind her whisper and get into top form at least health wise before Europeans. I got tested for coronavirus on Wednesday and was negative. But I've had this lingering cough. And of course there is covid paranoia going around everywhere yeah I'm sure it affects the Athletes too. I mean I can work from home I can stay home for a whole week if I want. These athletes cannot. They have to go out and mix with the public and the world and travel everywhere. It's not easy. Much respect for them.

Great new Avatar. :)

Great new Avatar. :)
Thanks. I'm someone who almost never changes an avatar and I've never had one for Nastia. I wanted to have an avatar marking her return to figure skating after nearly having her career finished at 18. Actually there were not a lot of pictures of Nastia from competing in this season. But I like the idea of this avatar because this is where Leonovas choreography helps this program. It's a very unique free skate with very unique choreography. I like how it tells a story and is not helter skelter.

Why aren't they having Georgia nationals? It would be a great opportunity to grow figure skating in Georgia and introduce Anastasia to her new country.

I also don't like that Nastya may go go Europeans with only 2 competitions in her this season and coming off coronavirus which took a toll on her lungs. She looked really good at Finlandia but that was a long time ago I hope she can get back to that kind of form by Europeans.

Because it is cheaper this way :)

I suppose so and most of their skaters train in Russia. They should hold the Georgia nationals in Moscow or Saint Petersburg. ;)
I think the last time there were georgian nationals was like 2012, 2013 or so. Since then they just name their team "based on the season's results".

Whaaaaat? Lol. That makes no sense. They have talent now they have a team a lot of people think they could be maybe number 5 in the team competition at the Olympics. It's probably not but I hope they're in the team event.

Nastia is listed for Europeans.

This will just be her 3rd competition of the year. Is Corona virus got on the way unfortunately.

Any idea where she has to finish so Georgia gets 2 spots for European's next season? Top 10?
