Anastasiia Gubanova

Congrats to Anastasia on an excellent short program in the 1st major senior event of her career. But it's too bad she and her beautiful unique skating is treated like rubbish by these maniac judges. Any judge that thinks her PCS should be below 30 (she got a 29) should not be working a novice event let alone Europeans the Olympics or worlds. That's the scary thing that these judges will probably be at the Olympics and worlds.

My comments will always be about the judges and not the skaters and criticizing them. Some should be higher some should be lower like usual but this is the judge's fault and the International Skating Union's fault for having such horrendous judges.

These judges need to be graded like other sports grade their referees and officials and from what I've seen this year and not just with Nastia. these judges should not be working the top events.

To see this woman and others like her who've come off coronavirus or injury get treated like this by the judges is sickening. Nastia is of no threat to the top Russian ladies because in the free she can't rack up the points like they do. Anna will score 140 to 150 points Sasha 155 to 165 points and the KaMonster 160 to 180 points. They are great and spectacular and they deserve those points. But it makes no sense to constantly squeeze Nastya in the SP. Getting a fair short program score today would have put her a few places higher but would not have gotten her on the podium after the free skate unless the top Russian girls collapse which is unlikely.

I hope she stays strong and is trying to enjoy this as much as possible with all the coronavirus restrictions restrictions going on.
She is skating in an event that she probably thought she would never get the skater in.

Nastia is still skating while many of the girls in her age range from her native country have retired. Kanysheva, Fedechina, Lozko, Panekova, Taurasina, Viktoria V Nastya T etc.
It's a minor miracle that Nastia still has a career and you can thank the Georgian figure skating federation for that. If it wasn't for the country of Georgia rescuing Nastya she would pretty much be hanging out with all those other talented girls who retired much too young.

I hope she nails the free skate but no matter what happens she looks like she will get 2 spots for Georgia at European's next year. :)

Anastasia is in the final group tomorrow, so hopefully her pc's will rise. She was great today.
Being in the final group is a cool moment for her. It can't be easy for Anastasia to rebuild her career basically on the fly.

I hope you're right about her pcs rising. The 29 she got for her PCS in the SP after skating almost flawlessly with her high level artstry and skating skills was ridiculous and an embarrassment to professional judges. Lowball Nastya on her jumps or whatever when she struggling but not with her strengths that's just unfair when she skates so clean.

O a positive note it looks like Anastasia has recovered from Corona virus quite well. At golden spin 1 month ago she said her lungs were burning. :(

I really hope Nastya is skating after Kurokava or Anna or Loena and not the KaMissile / KaMonster. :)

And I'm sure the other skaters in the final group are also hoping not to skate right after KV. ;)

Nastyas free skate today was a bit of a disappointment. She looked tired and did not look confident as she was pulling away from her coach and almost bumped into Kurakova leaving the ice. But Nastya sure is a beautiful skater and that frees skate dresses perfect for her.

I hope she gets to go to the Olympic and skate in the team event and the individual event and end her season at worlds. The coronavirus she had 6 or 7 weeks ago really damaged her momentum if your Finlandia. Just don't think she has her full strength back yet. This was the wrong season to catch Corona virus.

Competing at Europeans against the 3 best skaters in the world is this probably a great experience for Nastya. I know she's disappointed with her free skate but I also hope she got a lot out of competing at Europeans. If she can stick it out a couple more seasons all her scores will rise especially her pcs. But there's no way she and the other European girls can compete with a massive scoring frees skates from the top Russian ladies. Their scores are out of this world and deservedly so.

Does Nastya finishing in 7th place at Europeans ensure 2 spots at Europeans for Georgia next season at Europeans?

Yes, She secured 2 spots for Georgia. And it was still a good skate, 7th place is good.

Thanks. I was hoping for the top 5. Lots of the Russian born girls are getting better and helping other countries grow figure skating.

After a pretty tough skate that is some good news and that's why Georgia sent Nastya to EuropeansI to get 2 spots for next Europeans. Hopefully Nastya can be feeling better for the Olympics. But I hope coming off coronavirus less than 2 months ago she is not asked skate both programs in the team event and individual competition. I think that's asking a lot of a figure skater who looked tired today.

More SP photos from Euros.

And also video of her SP, from the ISU YouTube channel, so possibly geoblocked.

Hopefully there will be photos from her FP soon! She did really well overall, and can be proud of herself. I hope she gets GP spots next season!

That was arguably the best SP of Anastasia's career. It should have been a higher score with considerably higher pcs score than 29. 29? Lol. Why would the video be blocked?

I know the free skate was a disappointment for Nastya but I hope she enjoyed herself and hope sbe is getting healthier post covid because she still has 2 huge competitions left this season if she tests negative.

Nastya's post on Europeans.

Google translation:

My debut European Championship took place♥️
For myself, I gained incredible experience, for the first time I felt the atmosphere of major competitions) Of course, not everything I planned turned out, but for the first time I am glad to take part in a competition of this level
I want to thank my favorite coaches for patience, work and faith in me @team_rukavitsin_official ♥️
Also Maku Giorgobiani @makamariam_giorgobiani and the whole federation of Georgia for the opportunity to perform here and show themselves @figureskatinggeorgia 🇬🇪♥️
And of course, thanks to my parents, who are always there, support and worry no matter what. I love you very much♥️
Many thanks to the audience for the warm welcome and support, I really feel and appreciate it, I will try to please you more and more with each start♥️
This is just the beginning...🇬🇪💪🏻

And the Georgian fed's congratulatory post:

Thrilled for Nastya to have been selected to compete in the Olympics. A true dream-come-true. I was hoping she’d place higher at Europeans as I suspected she may be preparing a Britney themed gala performance based on the video she posted from her hotel room there after the SP

Did she do a gala at Europeans?

Like you I was hoping Nastya would place higher at Europeans. I was surprised when she fell on her opening 3 - 3 in the free after such a good SP. She almost got through it and fell at the last second. I thought placing 5th would be realistic after the 3 Russians and Loena. I could be wrong but I think Anastasia was the only skater in the top 10 at Europeans to suffer from Coronavirus this season.

The main thing is finishing 7th Nastya attained 2 spots for the Georgia ladies for the next Europeans. She can really help the lady's discipline grow in Georgia.

But I would hope at the Olympics that Nastya would finish ahead of the 2 Russian born skaters that finished 5th and 6th at Europeans. And Anastasia likely skating both skates in the team event for Georgia will give her is a lot of preparation going into the singles event. Let's hope it's not too much skating for her.

Gubanova has finally received ok to participate at the Olympics.

But it will be a tough experience. She has to compete at the Team Event as well...
To think of where Nastyas career was a little over a year ago and that was going nowhere and to think that now she's going to the Olympics for Georgia! It's incredible and I hope Anastasia takes full advantage of this opportunity. Although as you pointed out skating 4 skates thevteam event plus singles is going to be very tough for her especially coming off Coronavirus with symptoms 2 months ago.

Let's hope Nastyas natural immunity keeps her safe.

I hope at some point Anastasia stops talking about the age limit. I know she gets asked about it but every time she talks about it there are headlines on a popular Russian website and then hundreds of negative comments about her after that. :( It's unnecessary at this point and I would rather have her talk about how good her skating skills are or how underscored she is which would piss some people off ;) or how the July 1st birth date deadline that has harmed her career much more than the age limit has.

The interviewer did not even attach his or her name to it they were just asking her questions about Europeans about or skating for Georgia and then all of a sudden a question gets slipped in there about do you still feel the same way about the age limit that you did in 2020? that's how easy the next article's headlines can be made "Nastya has said this about the age limit"! It's really not her fault but she needs to be ready for it and say I've already expressed my opinion on that I'd rather talk about the the upcoming Olympics and world championships. She is going to the Olympics and then worlds there's no reason to discuss anything else certainly not the age limit.

There was a positive article about Nastya and it got 37 comments and this article about the age limit got 217 comments almost all negative towards her. These people who ask these questions are shady. They will use Nastya to their advantage. thankfully the skaters here in America don't really go through that nonsense. But it's common in Russia and it's sad. With NG they hit her with some softball questions and then reel her in for the controversial question to make a headline.

I really think Nastya needs a parent a coach or her choreographer Alena Leonova to help her with interviews even the kind that start off really well hey how are you doing what's it like skating for Georgia how was your experience at Europeans? Then they will ask her a question that will create another headline that gets a lot of negative comments towards her. It's not worth it. I hope someday she realizes these people are not her friends they will use her to further their careers like Rodina did.

The good news is since it was announced Anastasia will represent Georgia last summer comments on all the Russian sites I have read are like 99% positive for saying I'm glad you get to continue your career we get to see your beautiful skating again at major competitions and compliments like that that must make her feel good.

Hopefully Nastya has incredible experiences at the Winter Olympics and then her 1st world championships to end this season. The main thing is for her to get healthy and show her beautiful skating to the world.
