I am a fan of figure skating and a big fan of Andrei Mozalev, in Russia we also call him Graf (count). At the moment, Andrei is going through hard times. Firstly, he is very hard on himself and dissatisfied with terrible skates. Secondly, he receives a huge portion of criticism in connection with poor results at the Olympic Games. Many famous former athletes and other idlers have questioned the wisdom of his trip to the Olympics. This is typical for our country, we value only those who are successful now. Thirdly, the Russian Figure Skating Federation is very disappointed with his results. Being here, we know that Mozalev is not on an equal footing with Semenenko and Kondratyuk. Due to the fact that he is not at the famous club, Andrei does not receive as much administrative support as these guys. He "made himself" and achieved everything on his own. Oh yes, I forgot that Hanyu's crazy fans are still angry at Andrei, but this problem is not so big compared to the others.

Now his firmness of spirit is being tested most severely. Perhaps, under an unfavorable set of circumstances, his career may suddenly end, just beginning. He is very young and may make the wrong decision due to emotions.

Please, everyone who loves Andrei, write him words of support on his Instagram account, convince him that the darkest hour of the night is followed by dawn, and he needs to continue, no matter what, and then everyone will believe in him. He is very closed, but very vulnerable. His willpower may not be enough. But Andrei always said that the support of the fans is very important to him.

Thank you in advance to everyone for whom the fate of a talented young man is important. We will all be very sad if his career gradually fades away.

Count and the Court is Mozalev and Team, as far as I can tell. Mozalebot is kinda self-explanatory and standard for Russian fandom when people call themselves a fan of one skater or another.

Theoretically, Mozalev is eligible to enter Cup of Russia Final at the end of this month to try to break the bad spell, but he is out of Worlds. We don’t know how sick he is and what the latest cryptic landscape with the Olympic stadium from his room’s window meant today… anyway, all three guys are flying home on the 12th.

Unless he enters something small (not sure what it could be), the next bit of news will be in the spring to see if he made National Team, and in July when we’ll find out if he receives any Grand Prix assignments.

It’s very kind of you to compliment my English. In fact, I often make grammatical and lexical mistake, but I hope for some leniency ;)
I'm not sure about the name of the fans. Recently we have a new tradition to called "bot" all fans of all skaters (like a computer program-bot) :biggrin: We call Mozalev's fans "mozalebot", but this name can also have negative connotations in some cases :scratch2:

I don't think that fans in Russia would take one of that nicknames. Fans in Russia are most fond of last season's programs – “De Sade” and “Psycho”. Many fans began to follow Mozalev in his last junior season and they have the nostalgically attached complex to “Juno and Avos” program. In this season everyone really liked the short program - "Broken Heart". I think that everyone was delighted with the incredible spread eagle. The FS gets a lot of disappointing feedback as being too easy and meant for juniors. I understand why: it is very difficult to compete with Psycho. For me, each program has its own charm.

I have a dream to see the twenty-two-year-old Mozalev, who will show programs that will become masterpieces and go down in history. I really want to see how his journey ends, I hope that this will not happen before he turns 26 :cry:

I also include in the concept of "court" other skaters, involved in Davydenko's team, and his assistants. However, my interpretation can be rather inaccurate :shrug:

In fact, we created this slogan using a language game and a few references to Russian cultural phenomena.
The word "Count" implies an aristocratic status, so the word "dvor" ("court", "retinue") is quite naturally consistent with it.

Nevertheless, in our wonderful Russian language the word "dvor" also has several other meanings. One of them is "an organized space for recreation and cars parking between several panelkas" (I hope I described it in sufficient detail) . A derivative of this meaning is "a company of close friends who spend time in the dvor (yard) because they are neighbor".

We have a catchphrase «Za brata i dvor strelyayu v upor» (« I shoot point-blank for my brother and my close friends»). It means unconditional devotion and full support.

Thus, the Russian fans of Graf see a reference to this phrase and in their minds complete the slogan «…strelyayu v upor (I shoot point-blank)». This means support in any circumstances, as I wrote above.

Oh, interesting. I had never heard the saying, since my Russian is 25 years out of date, heh. Don’t worry, your English is great!

Personally, I love this year’s programs as well, particularly the thematic unity of the ‘Explorer’s Series’, from Rezanov to Columbus, mimicking the mental turmoil buildup+further reflections on love from Rezanov to DeSade and Heart’s Cry. That consistency is really compelling to me, because I miss intellectual tease component in figure skating and Mozalev brought it. It’s never what you see is what you get with his programs, but always what you see is what you get in his rare interviews.

Not going to lie, I am terrified of the fallout that will follow Mozalev’s 19th place finish and, would, like have given blood in my veins for Kagiyama’s and his careers to be reversed, or even for him to skate for Canada (selfish, I know) but that’s not an option.

I am profoundly grateful that Mozalev’s phenomenon occurred and for his past 3 seasons. It’s been wonderful, and he’d grown under our very eyes into a charming young man. Whatever happens, Mozalev is a credit to Russia, even if Russia doesn’t credit it.

Of course, this is a very unpleasant situation for him. What saddens me the most is that many people began to ironically ask why Andrei cannot defeat Kagiyama again. Undoubtedly, such talk infuriates him. Okay, without the backing of the federation, with undercover games and the physical and mental challenges of growing up, it's very easy to do, according to society.

Our society is very unfriendly to athletes and makes high demands on them. Fortunately, Andrei isn`t a girl :laugh: He doesn`t get as much criticism and outright dirt as the Tutberidze girls gets. I see this as a plus. I see the minus in the fact that in our country men's single skating is considered a lost sport. There is no hopes for young athletes. They get only disappointed feedback. However, I see Andrei an athlete who can been a leader in world sports. Many people has the same opinion.

Unfortunately, his career is now developing unsuccessfully, but we have many examples of worse careers. But it`s never easy for anyone here. Andrei was able to use the advantage that the JWC title gave him to climb into the top of the rankings, albeit not in the first places. It is sad that many opportunities remain unrealized, but this is not a reason to give up.

The best thing for him, I now assume, is to let situation go and continue to improve himself. In this aspect, it's best to be a reckless psycho who doesn't care about ranks and other people's opinions, about the presence or absence of support, who just does what he can perfectly well. The best example of such behavior for me is Denis Ten. It seems that Andrei is also prone to this. He so boldly claimed at the beginning of the season that he would go to the Olympics, although no one believed in this and he was in terrible shape. Nevertheless, he did it. As follows from his interview, this was just part of his plan for him. I like his calm confidence that he will achieve everything he wants.

I can’t imagine what his aims for this season are and what his physical and mental state is now. The positive side of the scandal that is happening now is that everyone is not paying attention to his Olympic failure. When there is silence after the Olympics, perhaps the possibility of Andrei's participation in the World Championships will be considered. Andrei doesn`t have much administrative support, and in this regard, unpleasant consequences may await him. However, I do not think that this is a complete disaster for him. I pray to all the gods that he doesn`t think so. He needs to fight. His main rival is Mikhail Kolyada, but he is also not in great shape and his reputation is badly tarnished. Most likely, the decision will be made by looking at the readiness of participant.

I will not rule out the possibility that Andrei will try to appear at WC. It's always better to be a crazy optimist, right? 🤪
We will always have time to get our portion of grief.

I am profoundly grateful that Mozalev’s phenomenon occurred and for his past 3 seasons. It’s been wonderful, and he’d grown under our very eyes into a charming young man. Whatever happens, Mozalev is a credit to Russia, even if Russia doesn’t credit it.

Your words brought grateful tears to my eyes 🥲 Yes, I have been reading your topic for a long time, but I decided to show up only now. Thank you for appreciating Andrei at a time when almost no one knew his name. We have many talents in Russia, being born here is a blessing, but the path of a talented person here is never easy. It is unlikely that Andrei will be allowed to play for another country, as I understand it, he does not consider that opportunity. I just want his career to be successful, as far as possible under the current starting conditions. He is still so young and hopefully healthy enough for a long career.

At this point, after two seasons of no second quad, the only card left for him to play is to change the coach (because, yes, there’s no way he could change the flag) which can backfire in more ways than one.

In addition, as far as my understanding of Russian schools goes, it cannot be Mishin, Butsaeva or Plushenko. I apologize profoundly for my post-RusNats cowardly thoughts of Tutberidze as the only other option. Lambiel already expressed negative opinion on all three Russian boys at the European Championships. Crowdfund him for Orser or Magri? I dunno. My thoughts keep running to getting Mozalev the heck out of Russia, which is my own baggage talking. I know that he has huge and loving family there, so it’s just not right.

Whatever happens, I hope his future is bright, as either a late bloomer in athletics or whatever alternatives he wishes to pursue, be it coaching or something else.

However, I hope that the experiment on the transition of Kolyada to Mishin, which failed in every sense, became a warning to all officials not to put pressure on the athletes in this matter. However, Andrei can make such a decision himself, which I doubt.

Tutberidze, with all her wonderful qualities, has not established herself as a successful coach for men, perhaps the most successful example of her work is Morisi Kvitelashvili, quite successful, but he is an adult man, and it is unlikely that you will be able to work with a young guy in the same way. I consider Tutberidze's club as one of the possible options, since it will be possible to preserve to some extent the choreography that Andrei is showing now. However, I selfishly wish that he continued to work with the previous directors, because his programs are unique.

In any case, any changes should be expected no earlier than the end of the season, then we will find out whether the fate of Andrei will change or will continue in the same direction.

He`s still young for coaching, he has to study it for at least 4 years, so he will continue to skate as an athlete for one Olympic cycle.

Maybe Urmanov? There are similarities in style, and it moves Mozalev away from either capital.

Do you guys still do 5 years, or did Mozalev took academic leave for this season?

That's right, he will get his bachelor's degree in three and a half years. I just counted this year, because it's not over yet.

It's very interesting to see teen Andrei jumping on Jump Harness and his practice in the ballet class.
