Andrei Mozalev

I definitely agree. It's such a shame he got left without a second Grand Prix event first and without Euros and Olympics next. I don't really understand why won't RusFed bet on him, they really do need to start working on building his reputation as I see him one of the most valiable russian contenders for the next Olympic Cycle.

I really hope he manages to snatch two Grand Prix spots next season, but since our beloved RusFed left him without Euros and Olympics (at least, not sure about Worlds, hopefully they will send him to Words) this season, this might be a challenge.
Also, what does your profile picture mean? I know what it says in russian, but I feel like I'm missing some context haha.
Well, Kondratyuk skates in the likeness of a god, Semenenko skates in a likeness of a devil. There is a Russian saying describing a desperado, ‘doesn’t have faith neither in God, nor in devil’, so basically, I play on that to express my faith in Mozalev vs his two closest opponents. Lol. I was considering adding a third line (about the crows), but it broke the saying.

In terms of Mozalev, it is obvious that he will not be given. He will have to take it. And if he can’t take from the other Russian men, he wouldn’t be able to take from American or Japanese men either. Because if Semenenko or Kondratyuk are tough to beat for him, well, try current top six, and at least four of them have glorious technical content. In the end of the day, that’s what he needs, to be able to not just go to a big competition, but be successful in that competition, getting as close as possible to that top six.

So, yes, basically I am focusing all my heart’s energy on Mozalev getting what he actually needs, vs wants.

He actually progressed a great deal with that bronze and reserved, businesslike reaction to being passed over—he needs the support of the Fed to get GP next year with his short and PB. Now my biggest hope that he could solidify it by decisively winning CoR Final, whoever goes there.

Well, when you put it like this... I wasn't even thinking about him medaling at Worlds or finishing in top six, I'd just be happy if he goes and hope for a clean skate haha. To beat current top six he'd need something else I feel like, maybe another quad? A quad lutz, possibly? I know he and Davydenko have been working on something for a while.
But you made me think, why shouldn't we be thinking about him getting into that top six? It's a poor soldier that never wants to become a general (a russian saying)
And I agree with you, his official reaction was reserved and calm, even though you could see he was visiably upset at the medal ceremony.

Yup, and wishing good luck to everyone after exhibition skate was a good move as well.

As for making top six, Mozalev’s free skate is already making top six at the moment—and that’s when PCSs were staked against him and with every top man in the world competing. He hits that 4T-3T 4S with the quality he has in his jumps—and he is in top 10 if he also has Fed behind him. After that… well, big dreams had never hurt anyone.

Working on 4F seemed to have been costly for him, because I noticed that they no longer doing 3F. The plan to add 3 different quads to his working kit did backfire last season. 4F had him 4th in Russia. Unstable 4S got him 3rd. Stable 4S could give him more.

Yeah. He probably isn't doing 3F anymore because of the knee injury that happened at RusNats 2020-21 during his SP where he fell from his 4F. They didn't know that it was that serious at that time, so Andrei skated FS with an acute knee injury. I'd hate to see him injured again, so you are probably right, and they shouldn't forse it.

And you are right, he could be pretty high if he stabilizes the quads he has for now. I was talking more about what could happen in the future, I know he is ambitious and wants to potentially win, not just to medal. The boy has been talking about wanting to try 4A for Christ's sake... I'm just hoping he wasn't being serious and if he was his coaches will talk him out of it.

I hope it was a diplomatic ‘maybe later’ to please the audience. 🙏 Less injuries, more quality, keep the popular love I had discovered he already has in Russia (I was actually surprised by how many people commented, expecting to be like, a lonely, oh, no! But I wanted to see Mozalev!) and things might go very well. I mean, that’s why we watch the sports, right? Because the outcomes are unknown, and Mozalev so far is giving us a long-running sports series better than anything produced by the movie-makers with a far more likable protagonist.

I hope Mozalev wins Euros now, so that RusFed has to send him to the Olympics.
Goodness, and I thought my dreams are ambitious! Personally, all I vibe for, is the best he can manage under the circumstances. He has 2 days to get all the paperwork and travel done before skating the short, which is not his forte at the best of times. So, just enough to up his rank this season to get 2 GP. Maybe improve his total by more than 4 points. To 260? Possible? Anyway, I am really worried, but I am so glad to see him in a major competition.:hap10:

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are you feeling?
Well, I explained the whole Mozalev: Trials and Triumphs of Idealism on Ice during team meeting today. My manager suggested we carry this energy and enthusiasm into our workday, because she is awesome. I briefly Considered an impassionate letter to the judges representing Russia and Azerbaijan. I am ridiculously pleased with the symmetry of his SP and FS SB results. I was surprised to see that Jackie Wong actually projected him as the winner in the preview of the event. I still don’t anticipate this, or Olympic assignment, but I am getting greedy, and want to see him confirmed for Worlds.

Mostly, I just admire how very very pretty this program is without a fall on 4S.

I've watched his SP a few times now and I'm just so impressed with the transitions. That spread eagle into the spin, the spread eagle into the 3A and the transitions out, the changes of position in the sit spin in time to the music. Some would call the music "weird" but I love it and what they did with the choreo. Kudos to the choreographer too because it would be so easy to choreograph a generic program and hope it works but this music really needed something bespoke and they nailed it.

Oh no I haven't been this invested since discovering Kostornaia in juniors. Please don't break my heart Andrei.

He's in the best form of all the Russian men isn't he? How can Andrei not go if he wins euros or even finishes 2nd?

As long as he has a beautiful, as clean as possible, skate, no matter what happens with Olympic selections, he will have new opportunities. There are mistakes that could happen. His jump arsenal is still fairly limited, and even if he doesn’t fall, he often gets dinged on 3A and 4S. He also is not an outward performer, and Kondratyuk is, with Semeneko using more familiar music.

In the end of the day, even if he doesn’t get selected, he will be showing his free skate that he prepared with the thoughts of Olympics to a larger audience than he had ever had before. He convinced 5 judges to put him into 1st in the short and 2–in the second. May he be even more convincing in the free.

His lead is far, far, far too small to talk about any potential placement with any degree of confidence.

Anyway, I am going to be here first thing tomorrow morning to keep all my fingers and toes crossed for luck and waiting patiently for the men’s event!
