Anna Pogorilaya

Seeing that there is lot of interest here to Anna's coach alleged cold facial expression, I'll take a liberty to repeat my post from another thread here, to hear what you think. Please note I don't mean any disrespect to the skater or her coach. They are actually my favourites among Russians. Just my view of the situation:

'Sorry, guys, but I interpret the scene in the K& C between two Annas in a different way altogether. Suppose it is the Anna the Coach who is afraid of Anna the Student or at least of what she could do? From all I gather Anna P is a young lady of strong character (Anna T said it many times in the interviews), her astrological sign is Aries which is the most explosive of all the signs, she is also a teenager who is not yet able to handle her emotions well. So let’s look again at these moments in the K&C at GPF: Anna P is visibly terribly upset after a disastrous (in her opinion) skate. Anna the coach is just sitting there very formal very tense not even attempting to console her student which I agree is very odd. But maybe she is just wary that any word or gesture of sympathy could only make it worse. Those of you who are unfortunate to have teenage kids will recall many occasions when all they got was a roaring ‘LEAVE ME ALONE’ and a door shut in your face! Sometimes teenagers are just better left alone. So I think Anna T was just sitting there quietly praying that her charge would not lose her rag in front of the camera!
We all here love our favourites unconditionally but sometimes we forget that most of them are just teenagers, not angels, not saints. And that coaches are people too!
From all accounts two Annas are on excellent terms being a team for 10 years and I am sure Anna T knows her student inside out and knows what's best. BTW Anna T used to be a judge for years so that might account for a serious face...

Thank you, Melissa. I think there are multiple possible scenarios to explain why they both looked the way they did that day in the K&C...perhaps they did have a disagreement earlier and someone was getting the "cold shoulder" (could be either of them, or both!). And even if that were the case, it doesn't mean their relationship in general is a bad one. We just don't know. As I said before, Anna T. gets the benefit of the doubt from me. If she was cold and unsmiling even when Anna has done well, that would be a little odd. But that's not the case.

That thread was not one of my favorites, to say the least. Maybe if male coaches were equally called out for "bitchfaces" it would bother me less.

As far as I know, Tsareva is not a coach who has had students at this level before. She is facing these kind of things for the first time and may not learn how to manage these situations until she faces them. So I will not criticise Anna Tsareva badly until I really witness her behaving bad to Pogo. Moreover I think they are doing very good job together so far considering the junior season, senior debut season and this season. I guess heir secret is working hard :)

Well, I'd be pretty annoyed if some people assumed what kind of person or coach I was from a facial expression on tv. Other coaches have been just as stonefaced, what's so strange about Tsareva's compared to someone else's "bitchface"?

I don't think it's bitchface or anything. But her expression is kinda cold, and her stare indeed make me shudder. But if Anna finds it okay to stay with her coach then who I am to judge. Not to mention some coaches tend to be very stern, especially male coaches. I don't find any problem with a stern femal coach.

That 'bitchface' might very well be a cultural thing. I lived in Russia for a while and people generally didn't smile that much, but when one got to know them, they turned out to be nicest people one could imagine.
Anyway, wishing all the best to Anna for Europeans! I'm sure she and her coach will have tons of reasons to smile at K/C  I really hope she will bring back her Rise Like a Phoenix ex, it's the best ex I've seen this season...although Brezina's tuxedo number does make me swoon as well ;)

You could be right, I remember reading somewhere that during the press conference prior to Rostelecom where Anna was favourite to win and hence a lot of attention was on her, Tsareva seemed to be more nervous than her student. One of the reasons I like them: Anna was in Tsareva's very first group of kids when she began coaching and they have been growing together since (10 years). There is no reputation, no support from the Federation - all they have achieved so far is due to hard work. talent and a bit of luck. The latter mostly due to 1) Adelina choosing not to compete at Worlds last year 2) Adelina' injury, not able to compete at Euros. The minute Adelina is back on the scene Anna is first to be out and that is worrying, Anna of course understands that and the pressure she is under this season huge, no wonder she had some rough skates.

Thank you for sharing interesting information!! I'm happy for Tsareva then. Are there any other succesful students in her group competing in younger ages?

Thanks. It makes sense. I think that Yulia is kind of the more quiet emotional one while Anna is a bit more explosive. That probably explains why Anna was even crying at her score in the first place. She was disappointed in herself and she was looking down on herself too. She doesn't know that she has potential. For example she has those crazy trademark spins which is one of the top for me in ladies skating. Hope she skates well in Euros and possibly Worlds too (if Adelina comes back). :)

I didn't hear of any. Would be interesting to find out

It's almost like they were trying to tone down her tremendous beauty with those absurdly hideous clothes...

 so true
It's like: "uhhh no this girl is tooo stunning we need to make her look less a bit." \=___=/

I've always thought of that. She looked hideous the first time I saw her skate but found out it was only because of the dress. When she wears normal clothes she isn't hideous anymore.

Anna has never looked hideous in anything. Dunno what you're talking about.

This was her best performance of the season. She has improved a lot. Chapeau!:clap:
