Anna Pogorilaya

I'm a bit nervous for her, as I think she was showing some weaknesses at NHK. I hope she won't let nerves and bad ice destroy her chances.

She is a new favorite of mine, and I also have her first in my predictions. I really hope she does well! I think of how difficult it must be to be in her teammate's shadow, and I just think she is such a fighter. Go Anna! :hap85:

yes - she's a warrioress, her determination and hard work is now paying off, she's getting more and more confident and I have hope in a great result for her too! As for standing in her teammate's shadow - patience and persistency are keys for Anna, she has everything to rule, she just need to stay strong (personally I think she has far more refinement, sophistication, maturity, quality in her skating along with big, impactful presence, great sense of musicality and interpretation, not mentioning APPROPRIATE expression than her country rival no.1 and I could ramble all day about PCS injustice, but it's pointless as judging in total foreign language for me...)

This year, it seems to me that she just has much more of a presence. I almost can't explain it - kind of like she comes out and really takes command of the ice. She seems to be letting a little more of her emotion come through too. I know at NHK she got very emotional when she got huge applause after both of her programs...I hope she does well tomorrow. I really think she can make the podium.

Anna....*sniff* I so hope she can make it to the podium. I think Kaetlyn Osmond won't skate a perfect FS and 2 points behind isn't so bad. Not sure what the judges will do with Satoko, though. She could hold on to the silver if the judges go with her. My worries became reality when I saw her stumble. I hope she can find her core, breath deeply and skate a faultless LP . I'm scared though, I won't deny it.

I actually thought Anna did great! Yes she did have one small bobble, but she held it together and is very much still in the running. Most important though she was a joy to watch- so poised and authoritative and fun. I also think her spins are just light years better than they used to be- I always really liked Anna but at times in the past I was literally afraid she'd hurt herself when she did a haircutter- now it looks great! I'm happy for her and hoping she can skate her best tonight

She seemed very committed to the performance and didn't let her bobble shake her confidence. I don't like her FS quite as much as the SP, but I know she'll come out and give 120%! Good luck Anna! :agree:

It's great that Pogorilaya has gotten herself on the medal board for all the big non-Olympic events now(Worlds, Euros, GPF... also Junior Worlds and JGPF). It's kind of weird they're all bronzes though.

She was robbed of silver medal today, but I don't really care anymore. She was the best for me.

That should change starting 2017. At least silver at Euros. And if she skates like today and with a perfect SP she can have silver at worlds too (i am not gonna say she should take the gold medal, it's obvious she should but here comes Medv falling and smiling and getting a PB and same old, same old). I mean this girl has prooved herself so many times, in a way Adelina and Liza haven't, and she is still no european champion, no world champion or olympic champion. Adelina hasn't won a GP, she has one gold Senior B event thats all, not even a european gold medal and she never managed to have 2 clean programs except for the olympics (and "clean" it's not the right word for it). Liza had one good year when she got everything and had no competition because she was the only one with a triple axel. They were both treated like queens like russians nr 1. It makes me crazy she will always be second or third. She was born in the wrong year. She competed in 3 worlds championships and she is on her way to her 4th. Not enough. She will do more and more.

I don't want to be negative. Anna got amazing scores tonight, and well deserved too. It just feels like another competition where she was kind of overlooked and I thought these days were over. Not sure what I feel. I'm happy she's on the podium. It's her first GPF medal, and that's something.

Anna has been robbed downright. But oh well... :rolleye: it is not like this is the first time. They have robbed her over and over again. I believe in karma. They will pay. There will be a day when Anna will be the last one to laugh. Have faith and try harder! :agree:

Preferably in Pyeongchang with Gold around her neck! Then we'll all party here in Anna's thread!

It seems like it bothers us more than it bothers her that she has been shafted so many times. I guess that's a good thing? I think the satisfaction of skating well means more to her than the color of the medal...at least going by what she says in interviews. I was livid earlier, but what can we do about, really. Just hope she keeps up the good work and stays positive. Her team's excitement in the kiss'n'cry was great to see when the score came up. :)

I think because ultimately GPF is not that important? And she got a great score, a score she can be proud of. That others are overscored is not her fault. Her scores are correct. And she is lucky in a way that she knows her strength. It won't happen that she will get dinged on UR's in the next competition and look at her scores in wonder, totally confused. Let's remember that at Worlds Satoko also skated clean and they went with Anna. I think that the judges realized that there were almost only japanese people in the audience. They couldn't give Satoko the gold so she got silver. It's almost the same situation as in Boston with Ashley. Home girl Gracie crashed so the needed to get Ashley on the podium. It's just always at Anna's expense and that sucks. And Anna had that little mess up in the SP. If it weren't for that she would've gotten silver, I'm sure of it.

I may be one of the very few who loves Anna AND Satoko. Thank you for a marvelous performance Anna.

No, you are not the only one. I love Anna and many others. I love Anna and Ashley for example. And Kaetlyn. And I like Satoko, she is not my favourite but I like her as a person, I am not sure about the artistic side, I always had troubles understanding the japanese ladies but I like all of them. It s not about them, but about the scoring sistem, the judges, the hard work and the right winner. Because we know all of them work hard but that doesn't mean that it's enough. Look at Gracie. Gracie, Anna, Kaetlyn are not very consistent skaters and that is the cause of 2 main reasons : 1. One is mental and 2. Good and high jumps which are always risky, remember the way this ladies fall, nasty falls because they flie high and either they land a beautiful jump, either they fall, rarely underrotate. When you were thaught to jump the safe way, cheat a little to be sure you land... prerotate and underrotate, then... yes you're going to land everything, sometimes you can fool the judges (when they want to be fooled) sometimes you can't.And in the end will Satoko be happy? Because the next time she will do her number but will get different scores and I will see that sad look in her eyes as if she doesn't get it. At least my girl Ashley who like Satoko is prone to underrotate since she was a junior, because of bad technique, and faught that all her carreer, knows it and is not surprised when she doesn't get what she wants. If you don't admitt it then you'll never fix it. And Satoko doesn't seem to admitt it and the judges don't help her at all by giving her undeserved scores.
