Anna Pogorilaya

Junior skaters like Tsurkaya or Zagitova are not an option.

Seriously?? A lady who can already score above 210 points is not an option here?? Really?? Of course they are, and not only an option but a great option. If nothing major happens to Alina during summer she can totally become the 2nd best lady already next season.

I don't get what this whining is all about. I mean did people really thought she would be sent to WTT after FS like that. Of course she wouldn't be sent and the same would have happened with other skaters too if they would have had failed that bad.

I think UnNamed is talking about WTT. I think sending Alina to WTT would've made more sense than Elena, as she is the reigning World Junior Champion. But maybe there is a rule that prevents Junior Skaters from going? And The Finn, this is Anna's Fanfest. Of course, we're whining!

I thought he/she was talking about next season. Alina isn't senior eligible until next season.

This is her fanfest but still, I thought it was pretty much given she wouldn't be sent.

for me it's more about fashion of selecting the team, not 'being sent or not being sent' itself as a result. Anna explained that Russian Fed simply did not ask her about her will to participate and decided by itself (as it was pointed earlier here). We can assess it from many angles - Fed probably wants to give a chance to Elena/check her standing and it causes a bitter feel of Anna being omitted and ignored by not even asking/considering her as a part of the team; at the same time, me silly thinks that Fed could also 'check' Anna, give her a simple chance to rebound herself if she's only up for the challenge, but this is not Russian Fed at all, I got the memo and style of it already, especially considered Ladies field. Apologies for those offended by my naivety - I do get that Russian Fed facilitates on field being competitive and crowded, but more understanding and trust in Anna would be good to see, nonetheless.

Maybe this is just my take on it. But, I don't think the controversy is so much about Anna not being selected.

The controversy is over the reasoning that was given for not selecting her.

Let's face it, we all knew that the choice was 2 from Zhenya, Anna and Lena, and that there was always a chance that Anna would not get called up.

But the reasoning the Fed gave for their decision was so insensitive and cruel. They could have been far more diplomatic about it. And if they had, there wouldn't have been so much fuss made about it.

The sad thing is that their clumsy handling of it all means that Lena is coming under lots of abuse, which she does not deserve.

The Fed have really shot themselves in the foot with this one.

There are some speculations on Russian boards that the decision was made prior to Anna's disastrous LP and that Elena actually mentioned in the interview that she was to go to WTT before the LP actually took place. I cannot vouch for this info though. But it does make sense to me. Anna's participation in WTT was never a sure thing. After not so good debut at Euros, some expected that Maria would be replaced by Elena on the Worlds team. It didn't happen so Elena was favoured in another way. Anna just gave the Fed a good excuse.

Nah, I don't think she would be like that either. It was just a bit of banter between friends.

And don't worry, I liked your description.

Just a small correction, though. Alisa was born in Kharkov. Anna's parents are from Kharkov. But Anna herself came along after her parents moved to Russia.

But, to me, they're both Kharkov girls! :agree:

Ah, right. Anna was born in Moscow :palmf:

I have no words for Russian Fed. They will destry themselves and then complain about whole world...

I hope this is not affecting her even more after what was already a painful experience.

Perhaps she finds strength in encouragement from her fans and the amazing audience in Helsinki.

First of all, I'm really sorry for Anna and everything that happened at Worlds and I really find it hard not to emphasize with her...this was a big opportunity to cement her status and prove that her bad days were gone for good and she missed it. It's clear that she was devasted, she showed it on the ice and I really don't find it a big shame as someone is saying her (she is 18 and skating is pretty much everything she knows and she has worked for her entire life, after all...).
That said, if the Russian Fed wanted to give Lena an opportunity in order to assess the future Olympic team, I feel it's fair but they could have handled the stuff with much more grace towards all the involved parties.

??
Sorry, can't understand Russian...
The "Girl" Youtube channel can be a bit provocative and posts insider info about FS. The title of the videos states that Med and Pogo are "[biting/gnawing at each other] (meaning that there's conflict between them)". Yet, there is nothing of the sort in the video content. They are friendly towards each other. :)

I don't think Anna and Zhenia are nasty towards each other. Anna has always been Russian No.2 and 3 for 4 seasons, if she has to be annoyed at the Russian No.1 that wouldn't be Zhenia first. She understands her positions. I think they're friendly towards each other.

Happy Birthday to Queen Anna! Still a queen in my book. May this upcoming season be a great one for her! :hb: :points:
