Anna Pogorilaya

I'm shocked. The next thing we'll hear is that she withdraws from Skate Canada. I have a bad feeling. Damn and I was so positive after the SP.

Apparently she injured her back in the training session beforehand -- so I guess that beilman wobble yesterday was indicative of a back issue. Here I was thinking her issues were with her knee, since she has many old pics on her insta of her with her knee taped up. I'm just praying we don't get any further withdraws from her. Be strong Anna!

Thanks for the Info. That makes me slightly positive for Skate Canada, because it seems like something immediate and perhaps they are super careful now because of the GP. Hoping and praying!

Me too. Let's cry together:cry:

Withdrawing from this doesn't affect her ability to compete at nationals does it?

As far as I know, the skaters competing in the GP events have a right to compete at RN without having to qualify through Russian Cup events. I only hope that she will be healthy and ready to compete there in a good form.

My fear got confirmed... It's so sad. Back pains are ridiculously hard to cure. It is what prevented gymnast Viktoria Komova to compete for the Olympics last year. I just hope that it is not more than a pulled muscle, and she will recover in time or at least manage the pain for the GPs. Those Billeman and donut spins need to go! Her health is the most important thing! I hope to see her enjoy skating with her beautiful expressions, not pulling through the pain :sad21:
Pray for Anna!

Anna interview

https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20171016/1127267648.html

Anna Pogorilaya has said that she has withdraws from the second stage of the Russian Cup before free skating because of problems with a back which won't prevent her to act at the Grand Prix stage in Canada.

"We planned to act in free skating, but the old trauma has had an effect. On return to Moscow we will undertake all necessary and we will continue to prepare", – trainer Anna Tsareva has added.

so her old injury is a back pain, that's a chronic issue and can be life long... :sad21:

aren't skaters allowed to get pain killers ? she can skate with that I guess if its bearable.

I'm so glad she's just being careful and that she's still planning on going to SC. I worry, because back injuries are the type that really don't heal easily, but if she says she's going to SC then I can only believe that she's going to bring her very best. I hope she can be comfortable and healthy in SC, and that she nixes those beillmann spins!

I think this is perhaps what they would've done if it was in Canada. But why should she compete in pain in a competition that doesn't mean anything and risk worse? I'm still anxious but I understand that they are extra careful.

she should go the Kostner route, minimize the spin variations and concentrate on a front or scale positions, as long as its centered and beautiful she can still get GOE's+
what about a cross stretch spin position ??

Lower back pain is a killer. I know I've experienced my share. The worst thing isn't even the back hurting, it's the radiation to the legs. And sometimes when I have back pain, my leg just gives out under me. Hopefully hers isn't as serious. But in addition to the head, back is just about the worst place to get an injury. Even supposedly mild ones might never fully heal, and will easily become re-aggravated. Rethinking her spins is a good idea - Alexandra Trusova's spin layout gives out crazy scores and she doesn't have a layback.

I liked Anna SP. I love the strong part of music not so much the slow...Is it ready to beat last year osmond SP in GP Canada ? I don't think so...

I'm a fan of anna (yes she can give me an heart attack) so I'm going keep my thinking positive:

_ Last year sp in finland throphy anna didn't get better score or osmond than this year in russia cup ( and I don't think russian judge's would give to anna any carrots on the score the same isn't true for osmond this year in canada for her new and old SP... ) .. the only diference is the time between her first GP
_ Anna lost SP to Kostornaya and to polina and not for much... Is this fair to compare? No.... Konstantinova had her first JGP in september and her season don't include the olympics so she needed to have her program completed early than anna, polina is the same program than last year ...

_ So if she skip the LP ... Is better protect her back now than do agravate and injury ... pain killer can give you a false sense of relieve a push a injury ( but I'm really sad because I'm selfish and I want to see her LP ) ... and I hate the "persecution" that people give anna after the world 2017 ... Yes she had a breakdown, so what? If you are good at your job, and in the last interview or test you screw everything after a great work in the last year... I would cry too ... It is russia ... osmond, daleman, the american and japonese skaters, they are protected by their federation, they can fall and fall and don't fight with other girls to every spot... try to put them in a russian championship and we will see

_ the only problem is that the jury will see for the first time LP in direct competition with osmond at GP Canada ... and I think osmond isn't a good " Black swan" and anna can beat her LP ... anna is more dramatic in her skate

_ So if I were anna's, I would put the last SP in GP Canada to have a real shot in winning ... and prepare the new for GP america with time because the program can be realy good with time

Go Anna :hap10::hap10:

I don't have any news on Anna P's recovery but no news is good news for me. Looking forward to seeing my favorite Russian Lady this weekend.
GO Anna! :cheer:
