Anna Pogorilaya

What? she will skip the GP?

No, as of now she's still going to Skate America. I was just saying I would rather see her pull out and preserve her health and confidence if she's not feeling peak condition by next week. However, I am hoping very much that she will be ready, and that she will blow us away with her amazing performances!

Only less than one week to SA ....
I don't know if no news are good news ...
But I hope that everything will be ok and the LP will be ready without pain

GOOOO ANA:cheer:

I need Anna to win SA not only because I love her (and I really, really love her) but because I need Wakaba in the final. 😂
Ok, but seriously, I hope she skates well and can be proud of her performances. No tears this week Anna!

I am rooting for Anna because of that as well. A win for Anna is good for both my favorite ladies! Plus, I'd like a performance that can silence people who are saying she's totally done as a competitive skater. She came back from an equally disastrous GP series two years ago to win a world medal, if people want to harp on how up and down she is they have to give her the ups as well as the downs. I don't know if I can say she's got any chance to surprise come back in time for the olympics, I'll feel better assessing that after we see the state of her injury next week, BUT I refuse to give up hope that the phoenix will rise again from the ashes of her last two free skates at some point.

Pls @ the skating gods, give us a happy healthy Anna. The world needs more of her gorgeous smile!

I’m not as concerned about Olympics for her anymore. I want her to be happy and healthy. And I also very much want her to prove all the people who are saying her career is over wrong by doing great this week, whether it’ll be enough for an Olympic spot or not. I love Anna’s skating and I just want to watch her do well and be happy with herself. And I want to have skates I’ll be happy to rewatch from her over and over again.

I'm with you there. I mostly brought up the olympics because I thought it an apt comparison to her 2015-2016 comeback, not because I think that the olympics should be her priority right now. Happiness and health are the priorities!

It did not come as a surprise as I had prepared for her withdraw since Skate Canada...I'm obviously upset that I won't see her at Skate America, but I'm also relieved to know that she's taking care of her health first. Just wish her a full recovery and hope that she will continue to skate as long as she loves doing it while staying healthy.

I have to say that I'm not really surprised over Anna's withdrawal from SA GP, but still it's incredibly sad to see it regarding all these circumstances surrounding Anna, having still bad taste in my mouth over SC K'n'C situation after FS...I just wish her lots of self-determination and self-conviction towards all decisions she makes - she, of all people, has to be certain and strict about what she wants and what to put above other things in her life at the moment. Moreover - wishing her lots of self-acceptance of her health situation, as it's incredibly hard to get at peace with your body not cooperating with your desire/mind. She has to 'steady' herself altogether and believe in progress to come; she has to also prepare herself for anything and not take things for granted - I hope she will bounce back stronger as a person form all this experience, in or out of competitive figure skating.

:ghug:

I can't deny I wished for a meteoric comeback at SA, but I was almost certain it would never happen. I think this is the right decision, as another 'Skate Canada' would've been a disaster. I think she should just focus on getting healthy and honestly....not even go to Nationals. This season she should just heal. She's not going to the Olympics anyway and every other competition does not matter. Come back next season with confidence and a healthy body, my girl. I believe in you.

While I'm crushed to see she wont be performing, I am so pleased to read that she's currently focusing on her health and not training. I know what it feels like to try to train through a bad back injury and man, I don't wish that sort of pain on anyone. It's so frustrating mentally and physically to deal with this sort of thing, and I really hope she has all the support she needs in this difficult time. Hopefully the fed is involved and getting her the best possible care. I don't care much about this season anymore for Anna if it's this bad for her. She can come back when she's ready, when she's healthy, and when she's able to show everyone her best again.

This article describes the nature of Anna's injury, as well as describing the circumstances under which she withdrew in Yoshkar-Ola. Based on google's rough translation: Anna could barely move after the competition, and was hardly able to take off her skates and costume in the locker room. Although it's unclear from the description (inflammation, irritation of the nerves, inability to move), it sounds like she has a slipped disc (I have no idea what "clamped ligaments" could mean, but her symptoms sound like the ones I have and I have two slipped discs in my back).

The article also says she did not go to the doctor after Canada, and was working on her choreo and doing physical therapy, but got sick and resumed training harder after and her back flared up again.

... I really hope if she has not yet gone to the doctor since Canada that she goes now. These back problems are serious, very serious. This is the sort of thing you carry for life if you don't treat it properly, and I say that from personal experience. I hope she takes up the fed's offer to treat her abroad so she can get back on track.

I'm so concerned that she has not seen a proper doctor since Skate Canada, nor gone through a medical examination on her back as previously reported. She should really go to Germany or Israel for a deeper examination and treatment since she's still on the national team this year, and the RUS Fed already said that they would pay for her treatment abroad. She probably would not be on the national team next year, and who knows what attitude Rus Fed would have...They might be ready to just dump her...It sounds so sad that she could not even take off her skates or her costume, and now she cannot even skate :sad4: I really hope she will do whatever it takes to completely heal her back, have a surgery abroad if needed, instead of only doing physical therapy while still trying to train and compete for the Russian Nationals.

Yes, I feel like Tsareva does not understand this or just doesn't care - and she works in the same school where Adian trained, you'd think she would have learned something from that! I'm going to get angry all over again so I just hope Anna uses her recovery time to look for a new coach - if she is in fact able to recover and keep skating at the top level. Ugh...

I cannot understand how a back injury was left unattended for so long... :(

I found a very cute doodle someone did of Anna on tumblr, but goldenskate won't let me put it up because there's a profanity in the poster's URL. However, it did give me an idea.

I've been seeing a post going around tumblr calling for fan art, fan letters, and fan edits/photos that OP was going to compile as a get-well gift for Yuzuru following his injury. I was wondering if anyone here might want to try and do the same for Anna? I don't speak enough Russian to translate letters, but I bet we could find someone who does, and I would happily collect any other materials people might have and work on figuring out a way to get everything to her. It might be an outlandish idea, but I do really want Anna to know her fans support her no matter what, even in these trying times. What do people think?

I also was mentally prepared for this but none the less disappointed that I will not get to see Anna in a live performance.

The drama of Skate America is still quite significant. A win by Polina will again put four Russian ladies at the GP Final...3 from Eteri's group. That would be an amazing accomplishment.

I will still wear my "Queen Anna" shirt in Lake Placid to honor Anna.

I just heard the news about Anna's withdrawal from SA. Poor Anna I hope she is getting proper treatment for her injury now. She
must have been in so much pain at SC. Wishing her a speedy recovery in time for her Nationals but severe back injury takes awhile
to heal and she may not be ready.

I am not familiar with her replacement Serafima Sakhanovich other than she just won the Warsaw Cup.

Praying for Anna’s mental and physical health and I hope she focuses completely on her recovery. I also strongly hope she’s getting a proper medical evaluation and treatment for her back by qualified doctors. I will love her and her skating no matter what, even if she never gets on competitive ice again. That said, I hope we can see her skate again in the future if she’s healthy and has the proper support from her team.

I would love to help with this in any way I can. I don’t speak Russian at all, but I could also help with the collection and organization process.
