Anna Pogorilaya

Oh. I didn't think of looking at where coaches are based. Yeah, the logistics are not good. And, as you say, with the situation Anna is in, she needs her family around her.

Looking at Goncharenko's fskate.ru profile, she also does not have many students on her books at the moment. But, unlike Urmanov, most of the students she does have are high profile. So, Anna would have to be competing with them for attention.

For a skater who is used to having a coach whose focus has solely been on her, I'm not sure that this would be a good thing. As I said, Anna's situation means she needs one-on-one attention. And I am not sure if she would get the attention she needs with names like Voronov, Kovtun and Mikhailova in the same camp.

On the other hand, who knows, the guys might want to help Anna out, since she is not their opposition when it comes to competitions. I would ask if anybody knew if this happened when Elena was going through a tough patch, but there's no point asking because the guys were going through tough patches too then.

But, the way Voronov's form has turned around this season not only shows that Goncharenko can do it, but that she has done it recently. Which is a good sign that she could do the same for Anna.

Well, Anna has been the only top student and that alone as we know now doesn't mean she received the best care. Secondly, I don't think Voronov will skate forever it is probably his last season. Kovtun with his injuries and lack of motivation is a big question mark so Inna might not be that busy as it seems now. maybe training along other top skaters would actually work better for Anna. But as I said I just don't see any other option in Moscow.

Personally, a change of scenery, getting out of the Moscow circle may do her good. And if Lyosha is going back to SPb (which I didn't know), it is much closer from Moscow than Sochi, and there are many options to travel between SPb and Moscow, it won't be too difficult for her to see her family regularly. The air of skating scene is definitely different in SPb compared to Moscow. Lyosha has a deep rooted connection with Alexei Mishin, his coach during his competitive years, who may also be able to rend a hand in helping her. I think it is worth a try.

If I could choose a coach for Anna ... I would choose Plushenko ... He would understand her back problemas and since he don't have many students seniors ...

Actually, after seeing him with Seraphima in SA after the short, I'm inclined to agree. He seems a very supportive coach, and his rink is right in the center of Moscow. From what I have read in Seraphima's fanfest page, his coaching seems to have made a difference in her jumping technique as well (although I didn't ever pay much attention to her until now, so I'm going off other people's observations). And perhaps having a star-powered coach could get Anna more on the radar of the Russian fed to get the medical attention she needs. Plushenko understands the need for good medical attention -- he's had his fair share of injuries. I would be very pleased if Anna made this switch.

Awwww. I really missed Anna at Skate America. :sad4: Hope she can get her injury issues resolved.

Skate America was lots of fun and very exciting to watch. Jaiwen is a champion celebrity hunter....the "Queen Anna" shirt was a hit.

I could not see the photo that you posted, but here it is! It was great meeting you and showing moral support for Anna together!

Regarding the coach change, from what I observed at Skate America, both Goncharenko and Plushenko seem more sensible and supportive than Tsareva. Maxime had a pretty rough skate at SP and looked so frustrated, almost in tears, during practice before LP. Goncharenko seemed pretty understanding after SP and tried to comfort him at Kiss&Cry, and they also made the correct decision for Maxime to withdraw from LP because he literally was doing butterflies after butterflies. Both Goncharenko and Misha Ge were there during practice, and they did not put any extra pressure on him during a rough time, unlike Tsareva, who demanded more jumps and forced Anna to try harder even though she was struggling in pain. Plushenko also seems a caring and supportive coach to Sima, who seemed pretty comfortable with him and looked more confident than before. Having a celebrity coach like Plushenko gets more attention on the athlete, which could be a good or bad thing.

Nobody posted or commented on her latest IG pic yet? CaroLiza_fan, you're slipping! ;)

She looks so hot in this photo that I almost feel embarrased to look at it! It seems that her body is changing to her natural shape since she has not been training...But I'm happy that she looks like she's in a good enough mood to post something on her instagram. I hope she has been recovering well both physically and mentally!

Actually, I don't visit Anna's Instagram that much. Or anybody else's. I don't have an Instagram account myself, so going there isn't a natural part of my internet browsing. It is only now-and-again that I would visit.

For a long time there I didn't even know Anna had an Instagram account. So, it is only in the past few months that I have updated my round for when I do visit Instagram. It now consists of long-timers Tuktamysheva and Ovcharova, and newbies Pogorilaya and Sotskova.

No, yesterday I busy doing Predictions Game preparations and writing a new Fan Fest. And I will be going back to them today.

But, this was a very nice way of starting the day! ;)

I noticed a change is Anna's "bust line" in the free skate dress at Skate Canada, but thought it might be due to her wearing a special back support appliance of some sort. The "red dress" photo and the photo-shoot from the spring really shows a dramatic change in her breast size in the past year.

I had a long conversation with a retired coach, instructor and Olympic dance gold medalist while at Skate America. We talked about the longevity of skaters in each of the disciplines (Men's, Ladies, Pairs and Dance). He said that "ladies" can rarely perform at a competitive level past their late teens because of physical changes in body and weight distribution (bust, hips, buttocks) putting stress on vulnerable parts (ankles, knees, lower back). This could be a big factor in Anna's back issues.

Anna has not changed so much physically since her 18 but I see that she has more bust now, but I think more than her mentality and lack of emotional support from a good trainer

Looking how eteri treats the lesion of medvedeva ... or the coach of Kovtun .... I feel sad for Anna ....

Someone who knows how to get here our support from all here, through any social network that anna reads follow, porfacor that have a contact with it is not selfish and shares her our good intentions

Any news on her condition? Will she participate at Nationals, I wonder. And if that is even good for her. I really want to see her at Euros, but even that seems really unlikely. :(

But if she doesb't go to nationals russian federation will give her a spot int he grand prix circuit nest year ? Because if she is sick is better not to go ... but she doesn't go how they gonna score her

Participation in Grand Prix doesn't depends of national quotes, only personal ISU rating of the athlete has matter. Anna's rating is high enough to participate in GP next year.

I worked out with Santey that we could maybe put together a video for Anya stating our support, that her VK group could then send to her. If anyone is interested in this, please PM me. Other forms of support are also welcome, such as art and letters! I'll start working on it once my exams are over next week.

I've been keeping an eye on the Russian news sites as well as the VK group for Anna, but no new news has come out. I'm torn between thinking no news is good news and the fact that I really want to see a headline stating that Anya has gone to get treatment abroad and she is making progress with her health. Although I'd love to see a stunning comeback at nationals, I'm fine with her taking as much time as she needs so she can be pain-free.

Hi. I am not very good at human anatomy, but from what I read here and according to how well I've understood what her back problem is; she does not need an operation, nor does she need to go abroad.
Plus, Russia has some very well prepared doctors and physicians. Therefore, what is the point of going to another country, away from her family, away from her daily activities, away from russian speakers, to do the same treatment which could have been done in Moscow but (maybe) twice as expensive just because the Russian Skating Federation will pay for it?

They missed diagnosing her spine compression fracture in the first place (not sure if it's the doctor's fault or her team's), and she's having a lot of pain because it did not heal properly. The thing is, all the best, top Russian athletes go abroad, especially to Germany, for treatment (Medvedeva, Plushenko, Yulia and famous Russian gymnasts such as Aliya Mustafina, Viktoria Komova and Maria Paseka etc. ) , and there must be a reason why they did that. Anna is a top athlete in the national team, and she deserves the best treatment just as everyone else. Maybe the doctors in Russia missed something, and she needs a second opinion regarding to her back issue. At this point, I just hope that she will have a healthy back !
