Anna Shcherbakova

We knew it was going to happen when our favourites would compete against one another, but it's not an easy feeling to cope with, so it's always a "one eye weeps, the other twinkles" kind of feeling. A silver medal is not bad at all to start the Olympic season tho of course, so I'd rather speak about my personal feelings I had in the rink, 'cause if I said how very much people loved Anna after the SP, I don't find the words to express the love towards her after the FP! You can see and hear it in the video linked above, but being there in person and feeling it is just different! I'm really happy that I had the chance to live it through! 🥰

And to wrap up the Budapest Trophy, let me share a very short personal story with you. When I was leaving the building, I caught sight of some very familiar people standing (and chatting) a couple of meters away from the entrance. Of course I recognized them immediately, they were Anna's parents and Daniil Gleikhengauz. I couldn't do anything but to stop and pretend I was waiting for someone before the entrance, hoping Anna will show up too. As I was waiting, some of the skaters were leaving the building, so for example Sofia Samodurova walked past me waiting for the shuttle bus to arrive. She was standing about 5 meters away from me... :) I must admit that I was tempted by the idea to walk up to the little team of Daniil and the Shcherbakovs to ask for a photo with them, but I wasn't that brave and just didn't feel it was appropriate. And the moment was soon gone, 'cause they just went back to the building and my bus was about to arrive so I had to leave... :)

Again, sorry for the bad quality of the photos, I'm especially sorry for the last one, 'cause it could be a beautiful photo if it was sharp and not that blurry).

Thank your for the story and the photos! Again, I love those glitters, that's something I miss while watching on the screen, it's so much more amazing when you see it with your own eyes. But I must say I'm not a big fan of the free program and the dress, unlike the short program. Though as a warm up competition, it wasn't bad. I'm just a bit annoyed with "she's being replaced" comments on internet. Anna is a fighter and she will prove it again.

Can @patee give a summare please?

Sure I can! The report(er; I recognize the guy from his voice :)) says that the reigning world champion, 17-year-old Anna Shcherbakova also performed at the Vasas Jégcentrum (the name of the rink), but she couldn't win the Budapest Trophy, albeit she was on the lead after the SP. Her fellow countryman, who is two years younger, Maiia Khromykh beat her in the FP, so Shcherbakova came second behind her. Although Shcherbakova would have won the WC with her scores in Sweden this year, they weren't enough this time. Anna: "I'm not disappointed, because this was my first competition in the season. There were mistakes, but we're working on fixing them when it really matters. The timing of the Budapest Trophy was perfect, that's why we decided to compete here. This is the first time I've been to Budapest. I really like the city, especially the Castle of Buda where we had a lot of fun with my mates." Although Shcherbakova is the reigning world champion, she can't be sure of earning an Olympic spot, because she'll have to fight for it in the extremely strong Russian field.

Thank you very much for it :thank:

No problem! Any time! I'm so happy that there was an international skating event in Hungary and it put us on the "skating map" for a couple of days. :)
Hungary proposed a regional championships for the juniors BTW, european/4CC junior championships. The proposal is among those that are postponed till the next congress, but if that will be accepted I guess Hungary can organize the first European junior championships.

Yeah, fingers crossed! :) But what is for sure to happen is the European Championships in Budapest in 2024. (After 2014 and 2004, it seems the every 10 year period works for us). :) But it's still a long time until then...

No need to apologize! The last photo in particular has a look of artistic beauty and intent; I could almost believe a professional photographer used a special filter to get that effect. And Anna is completely recognizable.❤️ I also really like the third photo.
