Anna Shcherbakova

I guess I assumed she would be in Juniors with the way they keep talking about changes to the age range. She is 14 now so when would she be eligible for Seniors?

And, yeah, I meant Seniors more than anything for her future success. That she would be the one to watch in Seniors since she has the combination.

If they follow the original proposal for the age change, it’ll take two years to take effect, so Anna wouldn’t be affected by it. She can move up to seniors next year, because she’ll be 15 by then.

it was a smart move by playing it safe.
She will get her second JGP assignment.
205 points could be enough to guarantee 2 Seniors GP spots for next season! :)
Well done.

I rewatched Anna's FS again.
I liked it much much greater than the first time I watched. I definitely worried too much about Anna the first time.
It's a gorgeous program. It’s as graceful and expressive and elegant as her SP but much darker and intense. Totally different mood and atmosphere.
She wasn't perfect on all of her elements but some elements were definitely great and nearly perfect.
Amazing spins. WOOW
Great musical and intense stsq that go perfectly with the music.
Jumps were good besides 3Lz3t. But I know she can do it much better. And I didn't know her 3F3Lo is THAT good. WOW. Her spiral into 3lz is one of my favorite for sure.

She really overwhelmed me.

So my opinion on Anna's performances!

I thought that her SP was amazing. It's pretty much the best SP I've ever seen, I think I can already say that much! The very first smile is incredible as is the one after the layback spin. The buildup to the Flip with the turns timed with the music is also a highlight. I think she held some of the spirals a bit less than she did during the test skates, but she ended up being ahead of the music due to it so hopefully she'll adjust that a little! It always feels like it passes by way too fast. She can still skate this better and sync herself better with the music but it already was soooo good.

The FS I don't think was as good. It does require a few watches, though. I like it more than I did at first. I think that it's a good thing that she has different styles for her programs and shows a bit of variety. The FS is the one she could improve upon the most.

The winner's interview was amazing! Looking forward to every English interview involving her.

The most important thing though, is that she got over 205 points. That's a very high score and should rank highly on the SB rankings. This means that she should have already secured 2 spots at the senior grand prix next season. That should have been her primary goal this season, so meeting it already is excellent news!

As much as I love Anna’s skating...whoever gave her a +2 for that two-foot landing on the 3Lz-3T needs to be re-evaluated (and maybe fired) immediately. The other elements were more fair, and I especially agree with that layback GOE, but that 3Lz-3T...no, she definitely shouldn’t have had positive GOE on that.

I hope this doesn’t become a pattern. I don’t want to see her being relentlessly hated on and her accomplishments dismissed just because judges are overscoring her.

I think judges will have to get some kind of training. If you take a look other protocols, you will see range from -2 to +2 or from 0 to +5 and so on. For example Young YOU got for her 3LZ from -2 to +2.
New rules and obviously judges are not fully ready for that.

I agree, FS program was not flawless, but it is beautiful program and during the season she will polish it and it will shine as a diamond!

By the way, on this. I really don't think the mistake here was that huge. Yes, she lost balance somewhat and had to bring her other foot down early, but it wasn't scratchy or anything, and not that messy. Should just count as a minor mistake on landing in my opinion, worth -1 to -2 in GOE. And if the original rating was going to be +4 for instance, +2 could easily be defensible. A mistake doesn't just make other qualities disappear, it's simply deducted from the value the jump would have received otherwise. Not all jumps with a mistake deserve clearly negative GOE.

The potential GOE range comes from different original jump value evaluation (Some might give it +4 originally, others +2) and different error deduction evaluation(Some might think the error deserved -1 to -2 and chose -1, some might think it deserved -2 to -3 and chose -3).

In the end, it's a pity that we may never see Anya skating to Saint-Saёns in her black ice-dance-like dress, in bright light and in good quality. When it comes to the rebellious angel skating to her fallen program, I'd prefer to see something more subtle and discreet than the stereotypical:dev2:.

If you take a look other protocols, you will see range from -2 to +2 or from 0 to +5 and so on.

There were two elements with the scatter of 6. https://www.sports.ru/tribuna/blogs/figuristics/2122038.html

Does anyone know why the junior level Russian girls usually wear gloves and cover their skates with their tights?

Because they do a lot of blade grabbing and half boot tights are becoming the thing with younger skaters. I see skaters in the US doing it too. Some believe it makes your lines look better because your legs appear longer.

Something like this? :)

I like the idea but yellow color usually looks awful on the ice. And if we talk about bodysuits - it's better not to be of one tone only (remembers Carolina green suit.. shudder).

Speakng about dresses- I've finally realised what the idea was for Anna's dress. Judging by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Introduction_and_Rondo_Capriccioso this piece was created by french musician at XIX century. Hence the dress is designed after fashion of that time and country :)
