the thing is..... to get even 1 JGP you need to be in the junior national team or at least to be invited to Novogorsk in August. (Alena exception)
So you need to show any results in the previous season and be ready to show good skates in Novogorsk.

I think she started skating much later than lots of us expected. They took it really slowly with her.
And do you really think that skaters should be in 100% shape to participated in a small local competition? Really? (then why skaters even start to compete in any small competitions early in the season, why not to wait till GP, WC etc... when the shape is supposed to be better?)

She is fully recovered and started slowly.
She missed 9 mounts of any competition experience since her last start. She needs to recall how to compete, how to manage with nervous... How it feels...
You can't expect from her to show everything she can and 100% shape after that long break. She needs a new experience to be more confident etc.
Look at any skater after any injury... they just start to participate in any competition regardless that sometimes it takes even more than a year to return a previous shape.

Personally, I think she did 150 times better than I expected after that long break... She is amazing. And her mentality is amazing too.

I don't think skaters need to be in 100% shape. But in my opinion, the timing just is too convenient - less than 2 weeks before junior nationals. I guess it's possible that such a competition just happened to be held then but I still think it's more likely that the aim was to use this competition as a showcase for a potential junior national inclusion... Which she should have accomplished, since she did score better than any of the qualifiers who are in danger have shown to be able to - And that was with a bad skate for her, at a competition with strict scoring.

Otherwise, I agree with you. This really was a great showing by her after such a long break and the recovery from the injury. And especially how she performed the SP was just great to see.

I wonder whether the idea will be to have as many competitions as possible to end the season or to just take it easy until next season... In my opinion, if she can handle it it probably would be best to compete a lot and try to get that touch back.

Anna will participate in qualifying competitions for Nationals Elder Age (Moscow qualfiers 5-8 Mar 2018, Nationals Elder Age 2-5 Apr 2018), medal of Nationals Elder Age means much enough, but it will not be simple - Vasilieva, Gulyakova, and four Panova's girls (Sinitsina, Kanysheva, Kostyuk, Kuzmenko are strong competitors, and not only these girls are strong.

If you really need explanation for why I would say something like this, it's just like with Berestovskaya. When you have choreo involving smiling and have smiled there in just about every performance I've seen and then barely do so in this sunday's FS, it makes me wonder what the cause for that might be. It's because I'm worried and want her to feel good - Not because I selfishly want her to smile simply because I enjoy looking at it. If you really don't understand why I might feel that way or why it might make me more at ease to see her smile there as she usually has then be my guest, I really am not trying to force anyone else to understand. But I really don't think I deserve these underhanded allegations. It's very rude.

But as a female in the United States, the amount of times we hear "just smile" is unnerving. It comes from strangers who know nothing about us, from people who have no idea what's happening in my life, and just want to see women smile because it pleases them.
I was not trying to imply that you are one of those people. But to hear that phrase really angers me because I come from a culture that thinks of women as beings to please men and to do whatever they want. Catcalling is not uncommon, as is the "just smile" phrase. My apologies. Perhaps I spoke too rashly, from a place with too much uncooled anger.

Back to Anya, I've always interpreted her FS as sad. And that's why it was odd to hear you say to "just smile" because it felt counterintuitive. I too want for her to be happy and painfree, after all, I'm her fan and that's why I'm here.

Again, I apologize. I truly did not mean to offend.

I'm sorry but how is it different from what we are doing here? :laugh: are all people on this forum former or current proffesional skaters? :laugh: I mean no offence of course, I just mean that most of us are just amateurs or simply long time fans of the sport and we all can speak our minds and also tell a lutz from a flutz, no need to have a PhD in figure skating to do so ;)

Anyways sorry for the OT. As for Anya I AM SOOOOO happy to see her again! :luv17: She is definitely my favorite Russian lady, just exquisite artistry, she is so beautiful and delicate :luv17: I believe she will only get stronger and better and we'll see her on JGP podium in no time :) For some reason she reminds me of Katia Gordeeva, maybe because she's just tiny and gorgeous :)
