Anna Shcherbakova

Looking great! Those quads I saw seemed clean to me. But what do I know. Judging Anna‘s quads or jumps in general is quite hard because she rotates so quickly the jump is already over before you can investigate the landing. But from what I‘ve seen here: She looks like she‘s determined because she realises she has nothing to lose. This might spur her on and we‘ll see her clean in the FS. Fingers crossed.

There is a question I have wrt the judges. There's a lot of crucial action going on in a split second during a jump (or all the time, in fact). May a judge "abstain" from judging a particular element, on the basis of "I missed that"? I know they are highly experienced and all that, but even with the best intentions, a person can blink, twitch, sneeze at an awkward moment. Or the split second when flicking the eye down to the keyboard or screen or a distraction, like a pigeon in the rafters, which happened somewhere recently. I sometimes try to watch the judges to make certain that they are paying proper attention. :roll5:

I would assume that they just key in GOE that they assume is appropriate first, then watch the replay later? Are they allowed to watch the replay for GOE?

This is also something I wonder. There seems to be very little time for replays and other fiddle-faddle, although there are those occasions when the k&c wait is quite prolonged. I would think they mainly involve the technical panel, but perhaps also incorporate loss-of-concentration reassessment by the judges.

The sum effect of 18 or 20 eyes concentrating like mad is probably pretty accurate, but I would think there must be quite a lot of "blink" moments during most SPs and FSs.

I could be wrong, but I think I have read that if a judge is unsure of the element, such as if they had missed it, or had an unclear angle to watch from, then they are suppose to give the skater the benefit of the doubt, and score them as if it was a clean element.

Once again, I could be wrong, but I believe that if a judge misses an element, they will still judge and give a score, but in a way that benefits the skater )))

That's very interesting, and fair, if it is the case.

No medal for Anna today but she is a wonderful girl nonetheless and an amazing performer. She will come back stronger❤️

What's happened for her on this whole event scared me, really, and make me thinking about if they are really taking the best direction for Anna, keeping adding difficulties, without letting her performances stabilize.

I hope that Danil will build for Anna next season programs without quads and instead of them add some cool combos. Its obviously too soon for her to go on quads.

Soon... She jumped quads a year before Sasha. It's not so long ago she handled them perfectly in domestic competition. Come on, she is not first nor last who just did not do well at one competition. Now she has rusnats before her and still has the big chance for junior worlds.

To me Annas quads look like something what appear for some time and then just dissapear again for few days. Its not stabilized and thats what crippled her season this year. Moreover, I think she have already some mental block from them. It was obvious just before girls go on ice today, all five looked tensed but also focused and turned on their best skating and happy to compete and show themselves, but Anna looked just like "I want to end this for today". I already knew she didnt make it before she started to skate. I think she is utterly amazing skater with artistry maybe even above Alena Kostornaia level and her technical performance is also overwhelming. She dont need quads, if she is not ready for them yet. Instead of them, she need very very good choreography which allow to demonstrate her strengths, same as Alena have this season.

They are trying to make a rivalry, pushing Anna and Sasha at their actual limit and see what happen. It's not a working for the future, on both, as the problems on those jumps are only going to become bigger, as their body will growing.
The 4Lz it's like a trick, to speed up Anna's ranking and then make her senior transition easier, especially if those jumps will help her become the next worlds junior champion.

The major problem: after an already so difficult season for her, all of this is not making the things easier for her at all.

The doubt this competition leaves me is that, while Trusova really need those jumps to be acknowledged, Anna has the grace for be something else.

Let's see how the season will goes.

Anna, don't take it to the heart, even the best of best just don't have their day sometimes. You are marvellous, beautiful, humble and nice young girl with so much courage in you. You are also poetic and you are the great skater no matter the todaˇ's mistakes. There will be other competitions and new successes for you.:agree:

She maybe did not win golden medal but she definitely has the heart of gold

Yes, and she spreads the gold dust into the hearts of the people around her... and ours. :thank:

As for Anna, she stumbled on her quads but otherwise gave us another dose of her ethereal magic :thank:
