Anna Shcherbakova

Anya with Nikita Nagorniy (Russian gymnast). He trying skate, she trying some gymnastics moves.

this is an incredibly positive and kind video and what a pity that there are no subtitles! It is not difficult to translate, but it will not create the right impression. I hope there will be a subtitled version, or I will have to learn how to add them, but for me it's almost like a triple Axel for Anya.

and then part 3 here:

Edited to add part 4:
Thank you for the posts of anna's interview

There are new parts:

Anna yesterday in her university

With the beginning of autumn, Anna Shcherbakova, like many athletes, began a new stage for herself — student life. The figure skater became a first-year student of the correspondence department of the Russian University of Sports "GTSOLIFK". The figure skater will study at the Department of Theory and Methodology of Speed Skating, figure skating and curling.

Anna was invited to the Day of Knowledge in order to make a speech to the freshmen, as well as to participate in a symbolic ceremony — the transfer of a student ID card from undergraduates to freshmen.

"Anna Shcherbakova unpacks fans' gifts. In what other sport do athletes receive so much attention and love from their fans? Recently, Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova received a parcel with gifts, the total weight of which was 230 kg." 🥰

A conversation with Anna Shcherbakova during a half-time break in a football match between Spartak and Lokomotiv. I don't know these journalists, and that's why I simply refer to them as 1 and 2.

2: A beautiful flower appears in our studio - Anechka Shcherbakova. Hello!

Anna: Hello!

1: Hi Anya. We are very happy to see you here, but as far as I know, you came to soccer today for the second time in your life. When was your first time, tell me about it.

Anna: Yes, I am not a frequent visitor here, but I already had such an experience, I was at soccer, at the Russia-Spain match in 2018, at the World Cup. So I was [on soccer] only once, but what a match it was! Very vivid memories, and I think it worked out very well for me.

1: Very successful, but I just can’t understand how after such a match ... So you came - soccer, the World Cup, it was at Luzhniki, in my opinion, everything is very cool. How after that you did not want to go to soccer again, because the national team played after that ....

Anna: I would say that then my own competitions somehow dont let me...

1: Well, yes, yes, I forget that you have your own business ...

Anna: I didn't have enough time...

1: Olympic champion in figure skating! How would you answer the question: what is more popular - figure skating or soccer?

Anna: Oh, I don't like such comparisons...

2: But you understand what we're leading you to, I think.

Anna: Yes, I understand what you are leading me to. And you understand what I’m doing, so I’m probably not going to stand between two fires and say that now, of course, figure skating is on the rise, this sport is very popular, a lot of people watch competitions, but soccer is such a kind sport that is always interesting. Therefore, I will not compare, I will say that this is cool - I am a figure skater, I am now on soccer match and this interaction is super. I like everything.

1: You are absolutely right, indeed, if figure skating has “fire” now, then soccer has always been and always remains popular, and as they say, this is the number 1 sport. But figure skating is really on fire right now. What do you think, is such a trend developing now... For example, if we talk about soccer, the most active fans are now complaining that soccer is now becoming more and more like a theater. I mean, now there is no such hurricane noise in the stadium. If earlier there were screams, songs, it was very noisy, but now even in Europe, fans say that it has become quiet, like in a theater. How is it in figure skating? After all, there the audience should be quiet during the performance, right? It's always been like this, or...

Anna: Well, I'll just say that right now I was sitting in the stadium during the match, and if you compare it with figure skating, then ... I, of course, usually am on the other side during the competition, but I can say that the our audience usually applauded before the performance, after the performance, as well as when performing some individual elements. But mostly people, probably, watch, enjoy our skating, our programs. And yes, after all, it is not customary for us to have some kind of chants, when someone shout: “Forward! Come on, come on!". So of course there is a difference. Here, at any tense moment, the support of the audience is immediately felt. This is incredible support, I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

1: But surely there are still some chants, for example, about you. So you heard from the audience something like: “Anna Shcherbakova is the best!”

Anna: We do not have such a thing that all the audience shout together, but it happens when the applause is silent, someone alone screams at the last moment before the performance. But our audience usually adhere the rule - dont break the mood of the athlete.

1: Has it happened when anyone breaked your mood through shouting something from his place?

Anna: I never had this. Probably, I begin to tune myself for a performance a few hours before the start.

1: And it doesn’t happened when something interfered you to tune right?

Anna: It doesn’t happen that I tuned myself for a few hours for a performance and then suddenly one scream - and everything ruined, nothing, the skating will be fail.

1: Cool! And this, probably, needs to be trained, this does not come immediately?

Anna: Well, gradually, yes.

1: Is it like a step by step to build a shield for yourself?

Anna: Yes, gradually, from one competition to another tournament, as far as experience accumulated.

1: Whose opinion is important to you? Because people say anything, they write anything on the Internet, but you gradually come to the point of cutting off all this? Or have you always been like that from the youngest years? Whose opinion do you listen to?

Anna: I have always been calm about the media, to comments. I often read all this, even during the competition, and it did not distract me. This is probably because for search for some of my shortcomings, for search some points that I should work on, I have coaches. Their opinion about figure skating is most priority for me. We always know what to work on, which way to move and therefore I always calmly perceived any criticism.

1: And what the Spartak players should work on, we will see now ...

(The table with statistics is shown and commented on, it can be missed)

1: By the way, Anya - many soccer players sometimes break down and start responding to fans on social networks, some dialogues begin, someone can like someone, for example. Such a story: there is some hypothetical Italian team Juventus - and many fans begin to write that the head coach needs to be fired. Some fan writes a whole post about it, then a player of this team can set like under this post. And then the scandal associated with this begins. Have you ever... How do you feel about it: are you careful not to accidentally like a post about Alina Zagitova? God forbid that then someone would think something, that someone would say that you are her enemy. This happens instantly - an article immediately appears on Sports.ru: “Yeah, Anna Shcherbakova liked the post that ...”

Anna: Well, I would say that now in figure skating, probably due to the growing popularity of this sport, there are many such moments. But, it seems to me, I am as far from this as possible, and not because I have chosen such a position. It's just that I, purely humanly, want to be away from any conflicts. I am like that in life and the same in the media sphere. Therefore, I can be careful about all my statements, I try not to offend anyone, and not touch on any dangerous topics. It’s calmer for me, it’s easier for me, I’m such a person in life, and now I’m the same in this space. I would not want to take part in any strong skirmishes.

2: The match is starting right now...

1: No, not yet. The players have not yet entered the field, and we will definitely wait for them, in a few minutes the game will start, but for now we have another game, our own game. We will now look at the actions of the Spartak players...

2: (to Anna) And you will evaluate these actions.

1: Yes.

2: In the same way as actions in figure skating are evaluated - they give points for artistry, for technique, for the performance of some particularly difficult elements - they give additional points for this. Now you will be our judge

Anna: Interesting proposition!

1: We can start now, right? Let's see. (a video is shown of a soccer player performing a dance) What is Quincy doing here? These are dances, these are dances of Quincy Promes - he is the tenth number in the Spartak team. He's very good this season and it's quite artistic. It seems to me that this is usually 6.0 - is this how the grades are given?

Anna: Well, you missed it a little in figure skating, I think. Now, after all, a slightly different system, a little more complex, in which separate marks are given for each element. But for artistry, marks are given on a ten-point scale.

1: Got it! So, on a ten-point scale, we will now assess the level of artistry of Quincy Promes.

Anna: Well, for artistry here, of course, 10 out of 10. We did not see difficult elements, so there may be questions about technique, but artistry is not discussed. Maybe he performs in dances where complex elements are not needed ...

1: Look, something more complicated has already begun - that’s what he still knows how to do ...

(Anna laughs)

2: Yes, it can be shown on a parody show...

Anna: Well, for artistry without discussion - 10.

2: How about the technique?

Anna: Technique... Well, probably, taking into account the fact that there are no difficult elements, out of ten... well, let's put six.

1: Six!

Anna: I have nothing to compare...

1: Well, ten for artistry and six for technique.

2: Not bad, not bad...

1: Promes - six for technique. Although the moment when he seemed to pick up the steering wheel and began to “drive the car”- it was great.

2: Yes, I even believed him ... We also have Shamar Nicholson, he also likes to surprise.

(second video begins)

1: Yes, this is also an forward, this is also a bright soccer player, and he also knows how to twist the somersault and ... Here, please, he is on the screen, celebrates his goals. So...

2: There was a good jump, right?

Anna: Yes, the jump is good.

1: How do you like Shamar as a whole? Quincy still the best?

Anna: Yes, the first athlete is the leader.

1: Well, such a trick!

2: And there is musical accompaniment personally from Shamar.

1: Well, like this in general. Of course, this was a more modest performance ...

Anna: Yes, he did not finish, did not reach ...

1: Moreover, it is very difficult to perform after Quincy.

2: Yes, it is very difficult, because Quincy already has many tricks - with this mask, with these dances and ... By the way, did you notice the plasticity and flexibility of Quincy?

Anna: Yes, of course, that's why I ...

2: Compared to Shamar, everything is much more flex, all these movements ...

Anna: I noticed one movement, which, as I understand it, is his signature movement ... Therefore, probably, you need to evaluate the second participant. Let's give eight for artistry and for technique - six.

1: Oh, not bad ...

2: And who would you put in the first place?

Anna: Quincy.

1: Of course, Quincy - if 10 for artistry, then everything is already clear. By the way, for sure, highest score for artistry was received too by the Aliya Mustafina, a Russian gymnast, a two-time Olympic champion. She is now here, in this stadium. She looks at the opening of the arena. Let us learn how she perceives the game. Aliyah, hello! How do you like soccer?

(I prefer to miss an absolutely empty conversation with Mustafina)

2 (to Anna): Have you met Aliya Mustafina today at the stadium?

Anna: Not yet, but now we met in absentia

2: Great! So, now you can chat.

(Advertising of some kind of sports betting service)

2: Anya, you looked at the first half of the match. Very often about the game of the Spartak team called as about the Spartak “lace”. These are ligaments, chemistry between players, rolling the ball at certain points. And you yourself drew attention to beautiful combinations, how players move, how appeared are the moments for the goal?

Anna: Well, what I saw today ...

2: Was it beautiful? Do you see this aesthetics?

Anna: Of course. This, of course, cannot be compared with figure skating, you need to evaluate it completely differently, but it was very interesting for me to watch the game, see how well the guys own the ball. For my part, I can say that I was a little upset, because while I was in a hurry to your studio, I missed a goal.

2: But you probably heard the stadium “exploding” after the goal?

Anna: Yes, I run to this studio at that moment, and I turn, reacting to this sound and I think: “No!”

1: What do you pay attention to when you look at soccer? How do you see this game? It is clear that when you are in the stadium for the second time in your life, you are not used to much. And I wonder what you mainly pay attention to. Do you compare with figure skating?

Anna: If we compare with figure skating, although it is difficult for me to evaluate this, I think that when the fan does not know the rules, it is difficult for him to understand how well the skaters act. You can just sit quietly and watch who fell and who did not fall. And here people who observe the game, for example, those who surround me - each of them behaved as a coach, I always hear the instructions to the players, how to do it - to pass the ball to a partner or, conversely, do not transmit, hold the ball or skip, who led the ball for too long and so on. Therefore, I tried to listen and delve into it.

1: And there is someone from the Russian soccer players, including those who take part in the championship who you know personally? After all, athletes from different sports sometimes communicate.

Anna: Well, yes, at our base in Novogorsk ...

1: From Dynamo, from the national team ...

Anna: Yes, from the national team. They trained in Novogorsk when the world championship was held and we even went to watch at their training. Therefore, I can say that I am know them.

1: And who exactly, who from the players?

Anna (laughs): Many!

2: Well, with whom exactly, tell us! Tell me right now, send hello to these guys. You are in the Spartak soccer studio ...

1: Well, they are not such stars as Anya.

Anna: Well, let me note the one who scored a goal today ...

1: Everything is correct. This is Alexander Sobolev, and we expect that he will show himself in the second half. And it was Anna Shcherbakova. We were very glad to see you. Please come to the Spartak stadium more often.

Anna: Thank you for the invitation, I am also very glad to attend a soccer match.

Anna as a figure skating coach one day would be a sight. Mentally there isn’t anyone better to learn from, that’s for sure.

Speaking of the interview above, Quincy Promes has been on fire since the first match.
