Any news from Michelle Kwan these days?

Michelle made a short video for the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition for their "Project Play" initiative. This community-based effort focuses on extending sports and play opportunities to all children regardless of ability, handicap and financial situation. (Scroll down to second video.)

I wonder if Michelle will continue s a member of the Council when the new President takes office.

Bonus: Here are Michelle and he sister Karen spinning at the family ice rink in California. :)

Michelle is on the International Board of Directors for the Special Olympics. The only other former skater on the Board is Scott Hamilton. Many other athletes participate in various ways in Special Olympics events and activities.

By the way, I just noticed that former gymnast Nadia Comanici is on the Board. This is what she looks like now. (Just sayin' ... :) )

The Special Olympics Winter Games will be held in Austria in March, 2017. I assume that lots of folks will be there.

This trip to Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) is about making peparations for the 2019 Special Olympics Summer Games. Here are some pictures that she has posted from Abu Dhabi.

Poor Michelle going to Abu Dhabi, it must be rough!!

In my post I said I didn't see any past skaters while watching NBCSN but on Universal, I saw Charlie White & Meryl Davis and as I posted (Bran B. and you knew who I was talking about) but anyhow, I saw Brian B. and he's bald, do you know anything about that? I was just concerned he was sick.

I saw Charlie and Tanith White, John Coughlin and Caydee Denney, Michael White, Molly Oberstar, Katia Gordeeva and Illia Kulik, Ryan Bradley, Aren Nielsen, Scott Hamilton, Rohene Ward, Christy Krall (retired a long time), Sarah Hughes and Emily Hughes, and Brian B.
Last year in St. Paul Brian was shown on the jumbotron with hair and then out and about sampling St.Paul food bald. I admit I was shocked and wondered if he were ill. Seeing him bald this year, I think the hair got sparse enough that he just decided to shave it all. He looked ok...not skinny or anything.

^ Yes, Elizaveta competed @ US Nationals last week (junior ladies)! Ilia was @ the boards coaching her. Katia & Ilia are both listed as her coaches in the KC Nationals program.

In addition to seeing Illia at the boards while Elizaveta competed in Jr. ladies, Katia and Elizaveta sat in front of me watching some of the Senior ladies FS. Just realized I also saw Rockne Brubaker and his wife also...they are both retired. Rockne was looking fine

Do you know how long it will be until she skates senior???

Dee, I misunderstood your post above about former skaters at Nationals. I thought you were asking about ex-skaters who were involved with the Special Olympics. On the Special Olympics, here is an interview with Michelle from Abu Dhabi.

Still now, looking back (on my skating career), I can't believe that was me who achieved so much success.

To say i had the honour (of working with President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama] was truly magnificent. I was appointed to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition in fighting obesity in America and its a role I look back on with such pride, by helping them to spread the message of being active.

To my knowledge she is focused on her career with the State Department working with diplomacy. She has done some commentating at figure skating competitions over the years though. I have no idea if she has any plans to return to the ice any time soon or if she already has. It sure would be wonderful to see though. I used to love watching her skate.

I believe that Michelle resigned her State Department job to join the Hillary Clinton campaign staff full time. In any case, with a new Secretary of State coming in, Michelle will probably move on.

She was just been appointed to the Athletes' Advisory Commission in support of the bid by Los Angeles to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Here she is a their LA headquarters.

And taking advantage of the opportunity to go shopping in Beverly Hills while she is there. :)
