Any Sasha updates?

Interesting. I feel similarly this season, I'm losing interest. In my case, I'm tired of endlessly repetitive CoP programs and CoP judging failure. Same with you?

Actually, I didn't watch NHK on NBC's Sunday broadcast because we had beautiful weather where I live and it was more enjoyable spending the afternoon outdoors.

I had already seen quite a few clips and as a fan of the ladies I saw nothing that made me want to watch again on Sunday. Did NBC even bother to show any Pairs or Ice Dancing?

I will watch the broadcast of SA to see if NBC offers any info or insights into their coverage of Natls and the Olympics.

I do want to see Yuna's programs again but the others - not really so much as it is collectively the dullest skating I can ever remember seeing.

I took a look at Shizuka's 2006 Olympic programs last night and realized how much more I like them than what I am seeing this season. Maybe it is because her skating seems so much more beautiful and artisically driven than this years Ladies programs.

I suspect Shizuka's '06 programs would have won every GP this season except TEB. More importantly though, her style of skating might have kept many fans from finding other more interesting thing to do.

Actually, since 2005 or so my interest has slowly started to wane. It accelerated after 2006. I blame the Cop as well as no American ladies in contention any more. I mean, this is supposed to be an Oly year...for the first time ever I'm finding it difficult to muster up any real excitement about the Olys. I mean, US Nationals will actually be the highlight of the year for me!

In the past I would follow the ladies and pairs exclusively. Currently the ladies have been replaced by the Men, still love Pairs and have added Ice Dancing to my list of must see.

Yea - but when is NBC ever going to show us the Pairs and Dance competition?

How much worse will skating coverage get in the USA?

Maybe next season, the GP coverage (if we even have any) will be reduced to one hour showing only the three medalists from the Ladies and men's singles LP's........

I haven't lost interest in skating. I am not as excited as I once was watching Tara, Michelle, Irina, Todd, Ilia, and some of the other greats. However, I am enjoying this season. I see some great potential for the future. This may not be the year for USA, but I think we will get there again one day. I am getting sick of the cOP because it has taken away some of the simplistic beauty that skating once beheld.

I will not give up on skating. I will be there. I will be watching icenetwork and following all of the competitions just like I always have! A disappointing season will still have great highlights and beautiful stories for me to enjoy.

I was watching Sasha's programs from 2006. They are so beautiful!!!! I hope she can make nationals, I've really missed her competitive skating. I would think artistically that she is up there with Yuna, and even better than Yuna with flexibility. Not so much technically though...

I was very surprised to see an article about Sasha's withdrawal from SA this morning in the Philadelphia newspaper.

Nothing too new except a few comments from Sasha saying her comeback was more difficult than she anticipated.

She said dealing with injuries was harder now that she is not as young and that she is determined to stick with it - as it is a challenge not only athletically but also to her character. She said she regrets missing her GP's but still plans on skating at Natls.

 I could have told her that... Skaters have enough trouble returning after ONE year away (Hughes). But THREE?

But if she misses Nats, and consequently the Olys, will she still feel this way? If you take what she's saying at face value one would get the impression that she'd try to stick around for at least one more season after that. But of course that's not going to happen.

Actually I was very surprised to see any mention of Sasha since I have yet to see any articles about SA or any commercials from NBC about it.

And I was just being a nice bloke and reporting what I read. I did not mean to offer any opinion (for a change ) with my previous post.
Go Sasha :cool::biggrin::love: ;)

ETA: I think it was reported that Sasha's doctor said something about "a cute calf tendonitis." Looking at recent pics I have to agree that Sasha has very "cute" calves

Janetfan,  not only cute calves   but an exquisite form for skating.

Hmm... I'm sorry to hear this... here's wishing Sasha all the best and I hope to see her at Nationals...

But I'm still confused by the "I told you so!" crowd... what sense does this make?

How is it good for US skating that arguably its biggest ladies star, (or at least the skater with the best name recognition among the casual fans who might happen up on the Skate America broadcast while cleaning the house and watch because she's skating) isn't able to participate?

Or a country with only two spots for the Olympic team, in a year where "the comeback" is being judged as a good thing and a skater capable of HUGE scores under CoP, despite technical challenges, again in a year where that's very common - making the OGM - or at least the Silver & Bronze totally up for grabs, how is Sasha injured a good thing?

And finally - I'm no Sasha fan, but I am a fan of US Ladies and when one is injured, incapable of delivering, or even simply a piece of work I feel for them. Skating is demanding and these young athletes put a lot on the line to compete and we should acknowledge that...

Now, I will admit that part of that deal is being able to take the public and their fickle nature, but to gloat about being "right" when it comes to watching a skater's dream move further and further away... man, that's just wrong.

See, now THAT is sportsmanship. Thank you, Kwanford!
You're right Spun, and I'm getting on the KW Great Sportsmanship train too. That is one classy lady!!!

....and then to laugh about it.....how immature!!!

kwanford wife--
decent post-i don't believe a word,
zhang injuryed with tendonitis didn't get same treatment from you as for sasha.

bye the way-what would you think if sasha petitioned to get on the olympic team and got it by not skating for 4 years.

I don't get it, either. Since when is an athlete being up for the challenge of returning to Figure Skating competition and wanting to give their country another option to be represented to its fullest...worthy of so much hate and derision?

I don't care if the criticism is coming from a "former figure skater" or someone who's always sat at home watching others put their heart out on the ice. It's not right. I can't see how the attempt is hurting anyone. If Sasha makes it, she makes it. If she doesn't, she doesn't.

As if Sasha's announcement that she wanted to try means she's obligated to perform ASAP, regardless of possible injuries, lack of readiness, or nerves.

Fascinating. I don't even think people were this forgiving of her on her own fan forum...

Fascinating indeed :yes::agree:

But what happens if Sasha returns and wins Nationals?
And gets named to the Olympic Team??

Expect the claws to come back out and prepare for battle. ;)
The Kwan fans will not take such an achievement by Sasha laying down

There will be great cries of anguish heard throughout the Kweendom and the attacks that follow will make Jenny's columns look like a fairytale.

Hope for the best and plan for the worst will not be applicable here. :p

Sasha's fans have been waiting three years for this moment and will not let the Kween's fans destroy it. The blood will flow freely throughout the land and the skating boards will implode as an all out war follows. ;)

As it is written and so it shall come to pass :p

Last I heard RD is not fan of the Kween. Actually most of the Kwan fans on this board have been very supportive of Sasha.
