Any Sasha updates?

Hmmm. The interviewer made it seem as if Sasha is definitely going to Vancouver. As if.

I know. The Good Morning America people never cease making themselves look pretty silly when it comes to figure skating. you were forced to withdraw from the ....what do you call it?"

Honestly the whole interview looked awkward.

I love how Sasha changed Costas' 4 minutes to 7 minutes. ha ha.

ETA. I guess the clip was a month old though. I like all the current US contenders and am really interested to see how two of them will fare at the Olympics...I just hope there will still be two of them. All this Sasha business is making me nervous...

Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned. This is Cohen we're talking about, after all, the one who WD from both her GP events with less than a week's notice  She's supposedly "not skating well", and she has no way to win a petition (no track record for past 4 years)

She is basically zero threat right now. It just seems like she's one because internet forums and news outlets can't stop talking about her. All the evidence points to her not being ready. There'll be a withdrawal in the next three to four weeks. ;)

I'm wondering...is Cohen even aware of how good Yuna is? If she's been out of the loop she might not realize what a phenom that girl is.....Yuna only became the "leading lady" of figure skating replacing Mao about a year ago.

I think Sasha should take a trip to Toronto and watch Yuna skate....that might put things into perspective :agree:

You know, it doesn't matter. No US lady can beat Kim anyway.

I don't think ANY lady can beat Kim *knock on wood*

We shall see in February. I really love Yuna though she seems like such a sensible girl and appears to have a good head on her shoulders. I saw her live last year and her "Danse Macabre" program was amazingg. I met her too, she's so cute.

Ah yes, the neckline on that Tosca dress really gave folks an eye full...:p

Sasha? Oh okay... seems to me that the overwhelming majority of elite female skaters are fairly flat chested-and Sasha is one of them, though I could be wrong. Maybe the costumes are constricting

I know. Every time I see new posts on this thread I hold my breath to see if it is the withdrawal announcement. By Jan 14 I will be a nervous wreck.

Same here, I thought after she didn't show up at SA she was definitely done but now there's a new report every week! Ahh!

I'm so conflicted, I don't really have much against Sasha, I just really want for Rachael and one of Mirai or Alissa to go to the Olympics...i'm just really curious to see how they will hold up and place at such a big event. Grand Prixs don't really give us a good idea because all the good skaters are divided over the events, when all the best are together, competing head to head, it's bound to be interesting.

It's good to see atleast one US Lady has a few endorsements and appears to be newsworthy. ;)

Haha. I bet she doesn't even like soymilk. I wonder if all these figure skaters even eat healthily, they burn so many calories that they probably don't have too. A lot of the competitive gymnasts i knew always ate a lot of junk food and still stayed slim

I bet you have no idea what Sasha likes ;)

I think I recall reading about Yuna's diet recently. It sounded pretty healthy to me but I am no expert on diets.

I remember once someone commented that they saw Caroline eat a piece of cake!

Maybe that is why she has not been as consistent this season ;)

^ Very interesting. Here is the abstract. (You have to subscribe to the journal to read the whole article.)

http://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...serid=10&md5=5ab8acb8128f8d3c7501137d72b56b1a

Results Height and weight did not differ significantly among the seasons. Body fat was 1.1 kg higher off-season compared with preseason. Energy intake over the 3 seasons did not vary significantly (mean preseason: 1,678 kcal/day; competitive season, 1,630 kcal/day; off-season: 1,673 kcal/ day) (P>.05). During the competitive season 78%, 50%, and 44% of the skaters had intakes less than 67% of RDA for folate, iron, and calcium, respectively. Most of the biochemical indexes of nutritional status were within normal limits.

Conclusions The results indicate that teenage female skaters have relatively low energy intake and inadequate intakes of certain nutrients, which may account for some of the observed seasonal variations in blood markers of nutritional status. These findings point to the need for nutrition education for these athletes, especially during their competitive season when nutritional status may be compromised.

By the way, I note that the principal investigator is a nutritionist at Gerber Baby Foods, and one of the co-authors works for Campbell Soup. Campbell's was a long-time sponsor of figure skating in the U.S.

Haha, well I have heard from many sources that Caroline has a big sweet tooth, but recently her parents and coach have stopped allowing her to have sweets. It was said at a competition she dumped a bowl of candy sitting in a waiting room or bathroom into her purse  . Unfortunately, I don't think weight is the cause of her troubles, because sweet tooth or not she still appears very thin.

Yuna I think is very healthy and always has been, from what I hear the Koreans are not big on sweets.

I saw an interview of Mao a few years ago and she was eating french fries from a McDonald's   . As long as they are burning the calories off what they eat probably doesn't matter but you won't perform well if you eat a bunch of crap before you perform.

As for the health article, 1,600 calories is not much at all for someone who exercises for about 5 hours a day (which i assume is standard for a figure skater - 3-4 hours on ice, 1-2 off ice), especially if they are teenagers when intake up to 2,200 calories a day is considered healthy. I guess that's why there are no overweight skaters

Well, I often used to eat french fries before I skated. I considered them my lucky charm as I ended up on the podium every time I ate them

And why eating disorders are so rampant. The big problem is that skaters burn off way more than they take in.

Haha lucky food :) .

And yeah that would make sense about the eating disorders. There don't seem to be that many skaters who leave skating to get treatment though, meaning the number of skaters with full-fledged eating disorders may be small, although I would guess a great number are borderline. It's too bad really, but I guess it's easier to jump and/or rotate faster when you are lighter. I guess even muscle weight isn't that helpful, I heard a commentator say once during Kimmie's 08 grand prix season that she thought Kimmie was so muscular and strong that it might have upset her jumping rhythm. I don't know if there is any truth to this statement but I sure found it interesting, Kimmie is very muscular for a skater, but by normal standards she is petite.

Cute. I love when she peels the banana...she looks so happy!

Sasha always seems to be looking all around during interviews...she looks down, up, to the right. This makes her appear not confident and uncomfortable to be, something you think she would have working on in her acting classes.
