Any Sasha updates?

May I offer a thought.........

With the exception of Yuna's TEB skate and Mao's skate at Natls I saw nothing this season that would scare an '06 Sasha, or Irina and Shiz for that matter.

Akiko winning Silver at Natls was nice to see as I thought she easily beat Miki at the GPF and at Natls.

Joannie, Caro, Laura, Alena, Rachael, Ashley, Alissa, - none of them showed me skating this season that would not be beatable by '06 Sasha, Irina or Shiz.

Others may disagree but I noticed all of the experts that tried to say how inferior Akiko's skating is have not said much since we actually saw fair judging at Japanese Natls.

Good points. We'll see what happens. I tend to be of the opinion that no one is unbeatable. Espcially at the Olympics. This season has underscored that for me. All have weaknesses. Fan opinions do not count and assumptions are just that. I do disagree with the idea that Akiko beat Miki at the GPF but wholeheartly agree with the idea that Sasha, Irinia and DivaKwara would've laughed at the idea of being afraid to compete with this group.

Also, based on Sasha's personality, I doubt she'd make a serious comeback if she wasn't confident she'd make the team. Not via backroom deals, but based on the quality of her competitiors...

I totally agree. Also, coming back at US nats IMO it's a very though decision, but if she gets well through that, she'll authomatically become a serious podium pretendent in Vancouver...

Speakinget of Joe - I remember he was the one who coined the phrase,
"Battle of The Flexibilties." :)

Of course that was about a possible competition that would feature Caroline and Sasha.

So Joe, if we see it next week who will win the flexibilty crown, Caroline or Sasha?

BTW, Mirai is no slouch herself when it comes to bendiness and would you let her in on this flexibilty battle too?
For those who go bananas for the two ladies contorting their body, this could make a competitive sideline for who contorts the best.
Everyone has flexibility unless they have been injured. To Contort and To Flex are two different moves.

How old are you? I had to do a doubletake of your post!!!! Is this for real!!!!

Lol, I'm 18. And obviously it's just a joke but I'm always amazed at the scores Kiira, Laura, and Carolina pull off when they skate badly. Then I realized they all have one thing in common: good looks! So I like to joke and say PCS is about looks now because I no longer understand how the judges come to such scores. Goes for the men as well, Lysacek and Joubert always have huge PCS...wonder why ;)

Yes, but I don't mean the normal standard of Sasha, Irina, and Shiz but the level of performance they put out at the OLYMPICS that year. Irina could do all sorts of 3-3s and Shiz could do a 3-3-3, Sasha was never a great jumper but could normally land all the standard ones to be competitive. At the Olympics though, these ladies were not skating to their usual standards, none did a 3-3 and there was some stumbling, falls, and doubling of jumps amongst them.

IMPO, even at their best, Yuna, Mao, Miki have the potential to be even better.

But here's the thing: If you rate Yuna,Mao and Miki at their best, you need to give the same to the other three and in that scenario - Irina kicks everybody's butt with DivaKwara giggling from the second step and Miki (quad, 3 x 3 making up for other stuff) sticking her boot in Mao's ankle as they fight over one bronze metal. Where does that leave Yuna? Think about it.

Very interesting. Yuna wins the PLATINUM medal, a new medal they just came out with this season

Just a thought... what happens if Sasha isn't sent to the Olympics, but gets a bid to Worlds or 4CC's instead, would she go, or is it Olympics or nothing?

Doubt it, this is SASHA we are talking about. Maybe 4CC if she wants to compete again before the Olympics, as for worlds, I doubt it. Once and diva always a diva :agree:

I don't know about Miki, because Irina and Sasha's personal best scores are higher than Miki's PB score according to ISU records. But I guess she has the potential to be better since she is still skating.

I think that if Sasha makes the US team, then she should go to 4CCs but I would hate for her to go to Worlds. There I want the future of US Ladies to decide we stand. But the Olympics? I'll be crossing fingers and toes for Ms. Cohen!:agree:

Miki is just so damn talented, between the 4sal and 3lz-3lo (I know she hasn't used either in a while but they still look good in practice!). Plus she's improved a LOT since 2006, she almost looks like a different person now (so skinny!). Idk I guess I just really like Miki, as Sasha has her own strengths but can not match the size of Miki's jumps and her speed!

Hypothetical scenario: what if a World team of Cohen/Flatt most assured us of re-gaining 3 spots in 2011? Then, soon after, Cohen announces her retirement from competitive skating.

That's what I said, but I doubt Cohen will go to worlds. Plus Ashley can probably do pretty well, maybe even Caroline based on her 4CC results last year, and Mirai too depending on the progress of her's we see at nationals.

I think the SOI tour begins in early April, so worlds (taking place in late March IIRC) would be all but out of the question for Cohen anyway.

Sasha beat Miki by what - 40 points at Torino?

The last time Miki landed a quad is about the last time Sasha tried a quad. Miki also hasn't landed a 3x3 all season. She probably has lost it and Morozov is not about to let her try unless he is sure she can do it clean.

So far Morzov seems certain Miki can't do it .

You are entitled to your own opinions.....but not your own facts. ;)

Bleh... I could've beaten Miki by 40 points in Torino!! BUT if we are talking top of their game, talent meets potential meets execution then you have a Miraculous Miki Ando doing all kinds of nifty things!!

I've always liked Miki and just want - just once - all that talent and fire power to ignite. I want to see Miki do her best, just once. For me, Sasha and Miki are the same: so much talent but not always the best results. Please skate gods. Pretty please? Just this once. Let them both be spectacular. That's all I ask.

Could totally support that - wouldn't be my personal choice, but I couldn't be mad about it...

Um, wait a minute now. Miki is the 2007 World champion, the defending World bronze medalist and Grand Prix Final silver medalist this year. In the 2009-2010 season her record in international competition is Rostlecom cup, 1st, NHK, 1st.

So far this year Sasha's is TEB, WD, Skate America, WD.

Plus -- Miki is going to the Olympics.

Let's wait and see what happens before we tell Miki what she can't do. ;)

Miki just said in an interview that Morozov did not want her doing 3x3.
That would be the facts direct from Miki.
Maybe it will change but as of two weeks ago at Natls where Miki dropped to 4th she was not doing a 3x3.
